L.A. Radio Hosts Suspended for Disparaging Whitney Houston Comments
Shock jocks pulled off air for calling the late singer a "crack hoe."
Popular radio hosts John Kobylt and Ken Chiampou of the "John and Ken Show" were suspended this week from Los Angeles' KFI 640 AM talk radio station after reportedly calling Whitney Houston a "crack hoe" while on air.
"At some point you're just sick of it all, and so is everybody else in the industry," said one of the hosts. "All her friends and hangers-on, everybody who knew had to deal with her. It's like, 'Ah Jesus … here comes the crack hoe again, what's she gonna do? Ah, look at that, she's doin' handstands next to the pool. Very good, crack hoe …' After a while, everybody's exhausted. And then you find out she's dead. It's like, 'Really? Took this long?'"
The radio station heads called the hosts' comments "insensitive" and "inappropriate" and released a statement about their suspension on the station's website, saying, "KFI AM 640 does not condone, support or tolerate statements of this kind," in a statement posted Thursday.
This marks the first time the shock jocks have been suspended since joining the station in 1992, reports the LA Times.
"We made a mistake, and we accept the station's decision," said John of the penalty. "We used language that was inappropriate, and we sincerely apologize to our listeners and to the family of Ms. Houston."
John and Ken will return to the air on Feb. 27.
