New Yorkers keep on keepin' on.
100 Person Poll: New Yorkers Are Not Afraid of Illegal File-Sharing
By JOE COSCARELLI
A crackdown on illegal downloading may very well be occurring in a way it hasn't since the fall of Napster. So far in 2012, file-sharing oasis Megaupload was raided and closed by the FBI, while BitTorrent wonderland The Pirate Bay plans to cover its tracks by removing all torrent files as its founder head to jail. Although the law enforcement action is focused on the people behind these sites, like the overblown bad guy Kim Dotcom, and not individual users, the arrests, seizing of websites, and potential legislation like SOPA and PIPA are clearly meant to send a message on behalf of movie studios, record labels, and other copyright holders. According to our admittedly unscientific and unrepresentative (but fascinating) poll, New Yorkers are barely taking notice.
Amid the swirl of bad news for illegal downloading, we sent out two interns, Catie Keck and Timothy Kosinski, to Union Square, Lincoln Center, and Morningside Heights to ask 100 passersby about their file-sharing habits. The most immediate thing we learned is that everyone does it:

( oop at those 8 people tbh.Collapse )
Source.
Do you still dl at the same rate that you did before, ONTD? Or have you become discouraged by the loss of Megaupload (RIP) and other sites? Also, kudos to NY for continuing to have perfect taste i.e. dling Game of Thrones (Except Drake, tho? Really, guys? C'mon now. Even out of 100 people, for the majority to dl Drake... smhc.)

i love having unlimited internet, i don't know how i will ever be able to go back to 20GB a month being split between five people...
so representative
Yes. Nothing has changed.
I mostly d/l movies to see if they're any good, tbh. Going to the movies is one thing but I ain't handing over $20 for a Blu-ray/DVD I haven't even seen yet. I need to buy physical copies of movies I love, though. Same goes for music. It's weird but I get all excited about the packaging n' shit.
I didn't use Megaupload THAT much before it got purged so I wasn't really bothered about its demise. But recently every rare film I search for only pulls up expired Megaupload links. Fuckers.
Also, I seriously need to start watching Game of Thrones. I've been meaning to for so long. Your posts are a good reminder. ;)
I download. I'm safe about it. I don't upload or seed. I transfer the files to safe folders behind a lot of security. I would hope the govt would have bigger fish to fry than tracking me down for downloading shitty music.
(...however, I do go to the movies A LOT and pay full price, which is like $13-14, and I have Netflix. So, you know.)
EDIT: And can I just say--I actually paid money and rented A Better Life from iTunes last week, and it took fuckin' FOREVER to download and then didn't play properly at all. So, what the fuck. I was so mad that I just stomped off and downloaded it ~elsewhere. [/csb]

Also, I agree with whoever said file-sharing should have no punishment. If I paid money for something and want to share it with whomever, that should be my right. It's still just sharing, the internet just obviously makes it a lot easier. =/
Yeah, they know.
