Yes, so much better than the Letterman perf. I think part of it was that the live music they had wasn't that strong (possibly because they didn't want to drown out their voices?), and it was kind of awkward watching them trying to find space on that small stage.
they probably don't bring in many royalites since they don't write their music + the music industry in korea isn't the most profitable. but they all have invidiual endorsements, regular tv appearances, acting gigs, etc so i think that's mostly where their earnings come from
Sometimes how money is split also depends on the group. Like if a member gets a solo endorsement do only they get a cut of that money or does it go into one pot for all the members, etc. Some groups get a say (or the comapny says they do but if it's true is another thing...) but others don't. Though either way most groups ain't rolling in cash.
i think for things like performances/sales it all goes to the company first but with variety show appearances/endorsements they split and keep more of it. especially someone like yoona, who has the most solo cf (commercials) and endorsements, it goes to the company first and then all to her.
idr if she gets to keep her drama money for herself, idk how it works for sme groups but for example in 2pm, everything is split six ways, even solo endorsements. the only thing a member gets to keep for himself is drama salary, and khun gets to keep his earning from solo thai activities. which is why taec probably has more in the bank than khun because he's done two dramas and gets to keep his pay, even if khun has more solo endorsements/cf because he has to split that.
they're addressed this topic (really carefully) before and said that it is basically even, but that members who do more individual things such as tv dramas and commercials obviously get paid more. so the popular ones pretty much
LOL, well to be fair to the guy who said that (can't watch the video, idk who you're talking about), they're a girl group from South Korea, so it's not out of line to assume that Korean might be her first/dominant language. It's not like assuming that your average Asian in the US MUST be an ESL foreigner. (I'm Korean-American and I've had people ~compliment me on my English too. It's so fucking grating.)
i don't think this will lead to anything ground-breakingly successful momentum for snsd or kpop, but snsd has definitely raised the ceiling
