Should DAYS "Go There" With EJ and Will?!
IT'S SOAP NEWS FRIDAY!!!
Okay, don't act like we're the only ones who've noticed the highly-inappropriate, yet insanely-hot chemistry between closeted gay co-ed Will and his former stepfather EJ on DAYS!
Ever since EJ flipped the script on Will — who tried to blackmail the dastardly EJ about his recent romp with Will's mama dearest Sami, by revealing that he knew it was Will who shot him all those years ago — we've been treated to scenes between Will and his new "Master" that threaten to burn up our LED screens.
With hit primetime soaps like ABC's Revenge offering up delicious, omnisexual villains like the unstable Tyler and envelope-pushing cable sudsers like Shameless providing raunchy, dugout sex between a pair of gay teens, we can't help but wonder if DAYS and other soaps wouldn't benefit from broadening their sexual horizons?
The Young and the Restless tried it a few years back with the character of Adam Newman, but ultimately chickened out. If soaps are gonna start competing with the antics of The Jersey Shore and all those cable TV "housewives," something has got to give.
Just imagine Sami reacting to the bombshell revelation that the man she loathes to love has seduced her first born son? Or, maybe it's Will who does the seducing?
When "LIFE" Ends: How To Accept The Loss!

This week we came to the end of an era in dramatic television. Losing ONE LIFE TO LIVE after 43 years, in tandem with so many beloved shows these past three years, has made being a soap fan a painful and challenging experience. Yet if there is anything I have learned from Viki Lord, it is that all of us have a choice to rise up, face obstacles, deal with loss, forgive, and learn to love again.
True, most of us have not spent the past year 43 years, dealing with multiple personalities, constant health problems, losing husband after husband, and fighting Dorian Lord. But I would argue that those who have followed Viki's trials and tribulations are in a better position to face life's challenges with resilience, dignity, strength, and humor.
I respect this is a time of mourning for soap fans, and that with grief comes a host of anger, blame, and sadness. It is human, it is valid, and it is necessary. But my sincere hope is that people can celebrate and honor Agnes Nixon's creation by valuing the show's fundamental lessons. Life goes on. Love survives. And no matter how much pain you are feeling, you too can rise to face another day.
They can take "ONE LIFE" off the air, but they can't take away the memories, the lessons, the laughter, and the tears we have shared with the residents of Llanview.
Cady McClain speaks out on the end of OLTL!

Cady McClain (ex-Dixie, AMC) shared her thoughts on fans' boycott of ABC in the wake of AMC and OLTL's cancellations on her Facebook page.
"I just gotta say it... I'm so not a big fan of 'hating' anything," she wrote. "Not even ABC. I don't love their decisions, but I can't bring myself to support 'banning' watching them. Maybe that makes me a weakling, but I hope not. They were very, very good to me for many, many years. I am deeply grateful for those that supported me and my work and continued to hire me.
I know it's tough out there, and that it sucks they cancelled the shows, but at least we had them when we did. I am grateful for that. Grateful that it brought me closer to so many interesting people I might never have interacted with otherwise. I know it's a cliche to say, 'When one door closes, another one opens,' but I really feel like there is something to be said for that.
Something to embrace. Yes, it's so sad our ABC soap families are gone, but at the same time, we have all found one another even more, haven't we? That's something special and rare and good. We share a history, even though we may have never met. That's a comfort, no? Let's celebrate the wonder of this crazy new technology. Perhaps one thing will lead to something else? Have faith in what may come, that's all I'm saying. And let's not hate anyone or anything. Follow your heart and it cannot lead you astray."
Chrishell Stause Reveals How Jake and Amanda's Story Was Supposed to End on All My Children!!

Ever wonder what the endings would've been for some of your favorite All My Children characters, if Prospect Park had never come on the scene? AMC's Chrishell Stause revealed via Twitter how Amanda and Jake's story was originally set to wrap:

Kirsten Storms Isn't Returning to General Hospital Just Yet!

Looks like Jen Lilley will have to do her exit interviews all over again (Or not?). According to Soap Opera Digest, the actress will—for the time being—continue to sub for Kirsten Storms, who isn't returning to the reclaim the role of Maxie for the "forseeable future."
PRACTICE Pays Off For Jones!

On the heels of taping scenes for her two-episode return to THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL later this month, Ashley Jones (Bridget) has landed a new primetime gig on ABC's PRIVATE PRACTICE! "I'm so excited! It's a guest arc that will start filming soon -- probably early next week," Jones tells Soaps In Depth, confessing that she accepted the role sight unseen! "They made an offer, but I don't know what the part is yet. I haven't even read the script!"
As for her recurring status at B&B, Jones says she'd love to see Bridget pop up on the show beyond her return on Tuesday, February 28, and Wednesday, February 29. "So far, we've always worked out the dates when [executive producer and headwriter Bradley Bell] wants to bring in Bridget," she reveals. "If and when he's ready to write more for the character, I'll probably be here at B&B a little more. I love coming to work here."
9021-Uh-Oh: Vanessa Marcil Giovinazzo SUED by Ex-Brian Austin Green For $200K!

How would Brenda Barrett get out of this one? TMZ is reporting Vanessa Marcil Giovinazzo is being hauled to court by ex-boyfriend/baby daddy Brian Austin Green! According to the site, the Beverly Hills, 90210 star has slapped a lawsuit on Marcil Giovinazzo, claiming she defaulted on a loan he gave her for over $200,000.
Green alleges in his suit that in 2000 he loaned Marcil Giovinazzo—who is the mother of his son Kassius— $50,000. He goes on to claim that over a period of time, he loaned his former 90210 costar an additional $150,000, with the stipulation she would pay him back whenever he asked for his money. According to TMZ, Green claims last November he asked for the money and Marcil Giovinazzo balked at his request.
Finola Hughes Looks Angelic at Art of Elysium Heaven Gala!

Has there ever been a red carpet photo that Finola Hughes (pictured with husband Russell Young above) doesn’t look great in? The returning General Hospital star was among the celebrities who attended the black-tie 2012 Art of Elysium Heaven Gala at Union Station, in Los Angeles, on January 14.

One Life to Live Vet Joe Lando to Play Cassie's Dad on The Secret Circle!

The Secret Circle's soapy connections continue! The CW series already boasts Andrew Miller, the real-life hubby of All My Children and The Young and the Restless alum Eden Riegel as its showrunner, and Days of Our Lives vet Shelley Hennig among its sexy, cast of YA witches. Now comes news that 90's One Life to Live heartthrob Joe Lando has signed on to play the pivotal role of Cassie's (Britt Robertson) father John Blackwell!
According to TV Guide, the Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman star—who appeared opposite a pre-True Blood Jessica Tuck as Llanview supercouple Jake and Megan from 1990-92 on OLTL—will make his debut in Episode 15 entitled appropriately "Return." If you've been following the storylines on The Secret Circle and/or are a fan of the teen novels of the same name from Vampire Diaries scribe L.J. Smith, you know Cassie's father "Black John" passed down his dark powers to his daughter. I don't know about anyone else, but I cannot wait to see Lando's Black John face off with Charles Mead (Gale Harold) and Dawn Chamberlain (Natasha Henstridge)!
Days of Our Lives Recasts Celeste!

Lexie's (Renee Jones) mom is coming home on Days of Our Lives, but apparently she'll look a little different! According to Soap Opera Digest, the DAYS brass had to recast popular actress Tanya Boyd due to a scheduling conflict. The sudser is reportedly looking for a "65-75-year-old gorgeous African American female" to fill the void.
Meryl Streep Gives All My Children's Susan Lucci a Shout Out at Golden Globes!

One of Hollywood's most iconic leading ladies proved she's no snob when it comes to daytime soaps last night. After taking home the Golden Globe for her performance in The Iron Lady, Meryl Streep showed All My Children superstar and fellow awards show staple Susan Lucci some love in the press room. From Deadline:
Turning to Streep’s numerous Oscar nominations, comparisons to Susan Lucci and that actress’ evasive Emmy for All My Children emerged during the Q&A. ”You know, I’m sure Susan Lucci is happy with her career and the longevity and fulfillment it has given her and that’s sort of how I feel,” Streep said.
How Much Does Tad Martin's 'Erection' Cost?!

They didn't call him Tad The Cad for nothing! Soap superstar Michael E. Knight's post-Pine Valley career is positively bulging with new opportunities. The All My Children alum will be appearing in John Marans' play The Cost of the Erection at the Blank Theatre Company's Main Stage in Los Angeles beginning this Feb. 4.
Knight will star opposite DeVanity's Robin Riker in the theatrical production about a wealthy woman named Susu Ziegler (Riker) who "has purchased an exclusive Manhattan raw space apartment overlooking the Hudson. She hopes to have her architect husband design this tricky space, but with their marriage virtually on the rocks, she forces him to compete against a younger, hotshot architect. This sexy, funny tale is told in a heightened theatrical style, compressing and playing with time and space and ultimately examines what makes marriages work. Or not work."
Will One Life to Live's Nic Robuck Take His Shirt Off For Sarah Michelle Gellar on Ringer?!

Starr might have broken James Ford's heart during One Life to Live's final week on the air, but the character's hunky portrayer Nic Robuck is feeling no pain! According to ABC Soaps In Depth, the actor has booked a guest gig on The CW's Ringer, starring fellow ABC Daytime alum Sarah Michelle Gellar.
One Life to Live's Kassie DePaiva on Upcoming General Hospital Stint: "Once The Mannings Come to Town Anything is Possible"!

One Life to Live vet Kassie DePaiva has taken to her blog to set the record straight about her upcoming stint as Blair Cramer on sister sudser General Hospital.
Now...on the General Hospital...Yippie. I must say the ads and press release by ABC is a little misleading and I feel I need to clarify to all my friends, family and fans that are emailing and calling wondering when I'm moving to Los Angeles. Frank Valentini, GH's EP, asked me to come out for a couple of shows in February and I'm thrilled. Not only will I get to work with a fantastic cast...but a little piece of OLTL will live on. That makes me very happy. And who knows where it will lead. Once the Mannings come to town anything is possible."
Doesn't sound like the Mannings or John McBain will be eating the GH canvas alive, as some have feared. Instead, it appears the popular ABC Daytime characters will serve to drive new story for the characters already on the GH canvas.
One Life to Live's Kristen Alderson Starts Filming General Hospital on Jan. 27!

Recent SoCal transplant Kristen Alderson seems pumped about starting work at General Hospital. The One Life to Live actress, who is bringing the character of Starr Manning to Port Charles, tweeted this:
Just heard a tiny bit about my first storyline on General Hospital! Can't WAIT to start filming...not this Friday but next! SO SOON!
OLTL Stars Join Fans in Celebrate Llanview Tribute Party!

One Life to Live stars Tonya Walker (pictured above), David Gregory, Lenny Platt, Josh Kelly, Barrett Helms, Mark Dobies and Donnie Jeffcoat participated in Celebrate Llanview: A Tribute Party at Sidetrack Bar in Chicago on January 13. The stars mingled with fans and answered questions on the day OLTL ended its run.

One Life to Live's Heavily-Hyped Replacement The Revolution Sheds 17 Percent of Soap's Audience!

This should come as cold comfort to fans of ABC Daytime's recently cancelled soap opera One Life to Live. According to TV Media Insights, the 43-year-old sudser's aggressively-marketed replacement The Revolution lost 21 percent of lead-in The Chew's audience and was down 17 percent from OLTL's numbers in the same timeslot a year ago. Can you say The Jay Leno Show disaster in daytime?
According to weighted results for the 56 metered markets on January 16, new talker The Revolution, hosted by Ty Pennington, Tim Gunn, Dr. Tiffanie Davis Henry, Dr. Jennifer Ashton and celebrity trainer Harley Pasternak, opened with a sluggish 1.9 rating/5 share. Comparably, that declined from the lead-in average (2.4/ 6) by 21 percent in rating, and year-ago time period occupant One Live to Live (2.3/ 6) by 17 percent.
It's really too bad that Disney-ABC's investors will ultimately be the ones who pay the price for the corporation's leadership thinking it would be so easy to "train" viewers away from scripted programming in the daytime. Much like NBC's idiotic move a few seasons back to do five hours of Jay Leno in primetime, a shift to an all talk/reality daypart will prove disastrous for ABC.
All My Children Stars Honor Pine Valley's Past!

All My Children fans were treated to A Tribute to Pine Valley by former stars of the series, Cameron Mathison, Jacob Young, Darnell Williams, Alicia Minshew, Vincent Irizarry and Walt Willey on January 15. The event took place at the Rosemont Theatre in Chicago.

Brad Bell Co-Owned Chicago Sun-Times: "There’s Nothing Revolutionary About The Revolution"!

We shoulda known a newspaper co-owned by soap heir extraordinaire Brad Bell of The Bold and the Beautiful wouldn't be feelingThe Revolution! (We're just kidding. We know BB isn't telling the reporters what the write!) The Chicago Sun-Times had this to say about the debut of ABC Daytime's latest soap slayer:
ABC’s new daytime talker, filling the time slot of the canceled “One Live to Live,” promises its team of lifestyle experts will help both viewers and its televised “heroes” of the week transform their bodies, minds, style, health and environment.
What it actually delivers — besides one long Macy’s commercial — is a bunch of platitudes, lame tips (“embrace color”), television’s millionth makeover and advice from the no-duh handbook.
Signy Coleman Reprises Ghostly Hope For Young and Restless!

Will Adam's mother set him straight? Soap Opera Digest is reporting Signy Coleman is reprising her role as Hope Wilson on The Young and the Restless. According to the magazine, Adam will start to revisit his past and will see his deceased mother. Coleman's airdated is scheduled for Feb. 17.
SAG President Ken Howard Joins The Young and The Restless!

TV Guide's Michael Logan is reporting Screen Actor's Guild president Ken Howard has joined The Young and the Restless. According to the magazine, Howard is tapped to play Phyllis and Avery's father. Howard is best known for his roles in 1776, The White Shadow and Crossing Jordan. Howard's first airdate is slated for Feb. 23.
The Bold and the Beautiful's Gina Rodriguez Becomes Young Hollywood Player With Breakout Sundance Turn!

The Bold and the Beautiful's casting director just nabbed a huge feather for his or her cap, as one of the soap's newcomers is currently the talk of Hollywood! Gina Rodriguez, who plays fiesty Beverly on the world's most watched scripted serial, just signed a talent holding deal with ABC, according to Deadline.
Rodriguez has been generating a lot of buzz out in Hollyweird, courtesy of her impressive turn in Sundance stand out Filly Brown. Thanks to said buzz, Rodriguez could find herself attached to one of ABC's upcoming projects like Marc Cherry's Devious Maids!
Filly Brown, from helmers Youssef Delara and Michael Olmos, is the story of a SoCal hip-hop artist (Rodriguez), who must decide whether or not to take a Devil's bargain from an unscrupulous producer offering stardom. Sounds like a Latina 8 Mile. Congrats to Rodriguez! Now let's hope B&B puts her on the front burner to capitalize on all the heat she's radiating, while they have her!
Could General Hospital Move to Primetime?!

Fasten your seatbelts, kiddies. We're about to head back up on the roller coaster. An article in this week's print edition of TV Guide (with NCIS on the cover) claims ABC is considering moving its final daytime soap General Hospital to primetime as a limited-run telenovela!
According to the report from the magazine's Stephen Battaglio, an ABC insider shared the deets with him, and discussed how relatively inexpensive it would be to take GH to primetime. If you follow me on Twitter, you already know I think this kind of move is our best shot at keeping daily soaps in production. Univision often bests networks among the Big Four with the juggernaut ratings of their closed-ended, primetime daily soaps or telenovelas.TeenNick has also had success with a daily, telenovela-esque version of the popular Canadian teen series Degrassi: The Next Generation, as well as British import House of Anubis.
I think soap fans would line up for a 13-week nightime version of GH — especially if that's our only option to see the beloved series live on! I just hope ABC commits to making this happen, should GH be cancelled this April to make room for Katie Couric. Soap lovers—not to mention the casts and crews of these programs—have been jerked around quite enough.

General Hospital's Chad Duell Tweets Denial Over Michael Recast Rumors!

General Hospital star Chad Duell says rumors of his ouster have been greatly exaggerated. Okay...so he didn't exactly say that. In fact, all he tweeted was "I'm not," when asked by fans if he was really being recast as mob scion Michael Corinthos III.
The gossip about Duell possibly leaving the soap began after casting sides went out for an 18-24 character named "Erik," who has something to prove to Jason and wants to join the mob. You have to admit, that does sound an awful lot like our tortured, spiky-haired Quarter-Cortinthos, but according to Duell he ain't going nowhere!

Dumbest A** General Hospital Plot Twist Ever: Johnny is Really Claudia's Son!

Mother of Medusa's hairdresser, Frank Valentini and Ron Carlivati came just in the NICK of time to save General Hospital from Jill Farren Phelps and Garin Wolf.
This week's Soap Opera Weekly reveals the insane plot twist that Johnny Zacharra (Brandon Barash) is really the late Claudia Corinthos' (Sarah Brown) son, not her brother! What in high hell?!
Barash is only four years younger than Brown in real life. When exactly was Claudia supposed to get pregnant with him, at kindergarten? Jesus take the wheel... To read more about this stank plot twist, pick up the Jan. 31 issue of SOW.
Alison Sweeney Hopeful Days of Our Lives Can "Continue to Fight the Fight"!

One of daytime and primetime's busiest stars isn't ready to give up on her soap hub. In an interview with Parade magazine, The Biggest Loser's Alison Sweeney commiserated with fans of recently-cancelled sudser One Life to Live, but dug in her heels about the future of her own soap opera Days of Our Lives.
“It’s really hard to say goodbye to shows that have been a part of television for so long. As a member of Days of our Lives, I meet soap fans every day who talk about what a big part of their life it is and how they watched with their mom and their grandma. Those characters were a part of their family dynamic for their whole lives in some instances. So I know how hard it is for all those One Life to Live fans right now and how hard it is to say goodbye to something that’s been so close to their hearts.
"We’re just hopeful at Days of our Lives that we can continue to fight the fight and represent daytime and keep our characters on for as long as we possibly can. We want fans to know that we’re still there and we’re making the best show we possibly can. Hopefully NBC will believe in us and keep us on for a long time.”
If Sweeney and her TV mama Deidre Hall (Marlena) keep giving us bombastic performances like the ones they turned in this week during a Marlena/Sami mama drama meltdown, we might be inclined to believe DAYS just may have a lot more life in it yet!
Melody & Edward Scott Sue Insurance Company; Male Assistant went through HELL!

File under rich people's problems -- "Young and the Restless" star Melody Scott is suing her home insurance company for refusing to cover more than $50,000 in rain damage ... claiming her poor male assistant went through HELL cleaning up the mess.
Melody and her husband Edward filed the lawsuit in L.A. County Superior Court, claiming Mid-Century Insurance Company put them through the ringer after a 2010 rainstorm wreaked havoc on their Beverly Hills Home ... and ultimately left them out to dry.
As a result of the storm, the suit alleges, the Scotts' loyal servant -- a Mr. Nick Krotov -- "was forced to place many pots, pans, and towels in the living room to catch the falling water."
According to the suit, the Scotts filed an emergency insurance claim to repair the damage -- but MC blew their repeated requests to approve it ... and Mother Nature wreaked even more havoc on their home.
Melody claims MC finally came out to inspect the property more than a week after the initial storm -- and rejected their claim, insisting the water damage was not covered.
Melody and Edward claim they spent over $50,000 trying to repair the damage -- and now they're suing to get it all back, plus other damages. Calls to Mid-Century were not returned.

Ever wonder what the endings would've been for some of your favorite All My Children characters, if Prospect Park had never come on the scene? AMC's Chrishell Stause revealed via Twitter how Amanda and Jake's story was originally set to wrap:

Looks like Jen Lilley will have to do her exit interviews all over again (Or not?). According to Soap Opera Digest, the actress will—for the time being—continue to sub for Kirsten Storms, who isn't returning to the reclaim the role of Maxie for the "forseeable future."

SO SOON!

The Bold and the Beautiful just got a little less beautiful. According to CBS Soaps In Depth, hotties Brandon Beemer (Owen) and Zack Conroy (Oliver) have both been taken off contract.
A rep for the sudser shared with the mag that both actors and their characters will still pop up from time to time.

Former Guiding Light stars Rob Bogue and Mandy Bruno are the proud parents of a new son, according to Soaps in Depth. Reportedly, the couple named their baby boy Flynn. Congratulations to the couple!

Is Dirty Soap coming back for a second season? Cast member and One Life To Live star Farah Fath answered the million dollar question fans of the reality series are dying to know via Twitter:

Or Sami/Lucas....I'll take either.
Put Sami and Ej together again
I'm sorry but Days was boring as hell when Sami and EJ were together, which is just one of 999 other reasons that pairing is awful.
Edited at 2012-01-21 03:28 am (UTC)
I hope people will let the rehab rumors go and instead let her illness be known so support and education can be used.
EJ is obv interested in Will. you can tell when he was chatting w/ marlena.
