CW orders 'Sex and the City' prequel pilot, more

Ready for the high school version of Sex and the City?

The CW has ordered a pilot of The Carrie Diaries, based on SATC author Candace Bushnell’s novel following young Carrie Bradshaw. The story tells of Bradshaw coming of age in the 1980s, “asking her first questions about love, sex, friendship and family, while exploring the worlds of high school and Manhattan.” Amy Harris, who worked on HBO’s original SATC, wrote the Carrie Diaries pilot. Executive producers include Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage, Len Goldstein and Candace Bushnell. If The Carrie Diaries gets a series order, I wonder if Schwartz and Savage’s Gossip Girl will return (ratings have been low this season).

But that’s not all…

The network also ordered its new version of Beauty and the Beast to pilot. It’s loosely based on the 1987 CBS series and billed as “a modern day romantic love story with a procedural twist.” Jennifer Levin (Felicity) and Sherri Cooper (Brothers and Sisters) are the writers. Paul J. Witt and C. Anthony Thomas, Ron Koslow, Bill Haber are the executive producers.

In addition, the network made official its pilot order for a TV version of the DC Comics hero Green Arrow. There was one bit of new information about the show: It’s title will be simply Arrow.

All told, The CW has picked up four pilots so far, with these three joining the previously announced investigative thriller Cult.

Oh no no no...honey no. I got sick of all the women claiming they got their fashion sense from "Carrie Bradshaw" and how "Carrie Bradshaw" changed their lives....
likegunfire 19th-Jan-2012 07:57 am (UTC)
tbf that character & the show were a MAJOR influence on a lot of young people
boogalooshaman 19th-Jan-2012 08:03 am (UTC)
Lol and Carrie was the worst, lbr.
treatyoself 19th-Jan-2012 09:10 am (UTC)

I loved the series & SJP but yep.
rainbowren 19th-Jan-2012 08:16 am (UTC)
Actually the show and Carrie Bradshaw was a huge influence back in the day, and certainly set the standards for what characters wear on television. The fashion was another element to the show.

yes seriously...... enough
treegrowth 19th-Jan-2012 08:35 am (UTC)
it makes me kinda bummed so many women identify with carrie because i thought she was so shallow, boring and just all around lame.
tangerinefriday 19th-Jan-2012 08:53 am (UTC)
ikr... she's a profound role model. Writing about random dick every week and putting the ultimate premium in life on shoes you can't afford.

The only nice/ non embarrassing guy she spent any time on, she cheated on, then decided she didn't want to marry after he forgave her. Cause THATS the way to be free and independent.

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO.

NO.
clothingaddict 19th-Jan-2012 07:48 am (UTC)
Hm... has anyone read the book? Is it any good?
persephone_tree 19th-Jan-2012 07:55 am (UTC)
It's very try-hard imo and just plain boring most of the time. It took me like 3 months to finish it because i kept putting it down and forgetting that i was even reading anything.

who is the girl in your icon? she is v beautiful
alanadelrey 19th-Jan-2012 07:55 am (UTC)
I tried. I rarely ever stop reading books part way through. I can't remember why I didn't like it, I think it just seemed to try too hard to have teenagers. I'm not really explaining well but it's like she had a prejudice against teenagers and doesn't see them as real people, she sees teenagers as shallow or stand offish or whatever, so Carrie the character was just horrible. (Even compared to Carrie in the show.)
glittersecrecy 19th-Jan-2012 08:09 am (UTC)
i didn't overthink it, so i found it really cute and i enjoyed it. there are a few details here and there that don't match up to carrie's history on the show, but other than that, it was a fun read.
sweeetkiwi 19th-Jan-2012 08:14 am (UTC)
yeah it was okay!
thedpmiss 19th-Jan-2012 08:17 am (UTC)
I tried, the first few pages completely turned me off. Not keen on finishing for a while.
snowweisz 19th-Jan-2012 08:19 am (UTC)
It's young adult fiction, so judging from that it's pretty good and I genuinely liked it. Especially because imo Carrie felt less pretentious and more aware of her own stupidity than most YA characters so I liked that.
wristtattoos 19th-Jan-2012 09:35 am (UTC)
a nice fun easy read. but i love anything candace bushnell!
blazinguns 19th-Jan-2012 01:57 pm (UTC)
I haven't read this, but I read another book by Bushnell and it was atrocious.

The story tells of Bradshaw coming of age in the 1980s, “asking her first questions about love, sex, friendship and family, while exploring the worlds of high school and Manhattan.”

Carrie's tryhard questions always made me cringe on SATC.

Maybe younger Carrie will ask "Why do we convince ourselves to buy that marked down 5x, ugly as hell gold purse from Kohls with faux lipstick graffiti ?"

Dakota Fanning for Samantha!

I would watch that, ngl.

Abigail Breslin for Miranda?

noooo, that girl from Suburgatory for Miranda!
pinkprincessnat 19th-Jan-2012 07:53 am (UTC)
So unnecessary but this is exactly the sort of show I will end up watching for the clothes or whatever.
fruitchews 19th-Jan-2012 07:54 am (UTC)
Unless they modernize it, no one is going to care. SATC is noticeably outdated.
ultra_obscene84 19th-Jan-2012 08:03 am (UTC)
Not only that. I don't get the girls who say shit like "I'm a Samantha" or "I'm a Miranda" or whatever else, when they couldn't relate to women in their 20s on the show. Especially Samantha.
aleronihead 19th-Jan-2012 02:50 pm (UTC)
Well, this takes place in the 80s, so it'll be even more outdated because it'll be farther in the past. If they stick to the timeline.
sweeetkiwi 19th-Jan-2012 07:54 am (UTC)
cw will ruin it

it should be on showtime or hbo
deceitful 19th-Jan-2012 07:54 am (UTC)
I hate what they've done to this series. It was entertaining. The first movie was god awful, I refuse to watch the second.
milestoburn 19th-Jan-2012 09:02 am (UTC)
The first one was alright, but OMG I saw the second one on cable and it was *literally* the worst movie I've ever seen. Not even good enough to be a guilty pleasure. It kind of made me retroactively hate the entire series because the characters were so unlikable and awful.
playedinloops 19th-Jan-2012 02:47 pm (UTC)
be thankful you haven't seen the second. cause it is EMBARRASSINGLY awful. omg.

I need more VH1 dating shows in my life. Apparently Hip Hop Wives or something similar brings the delicious trash, but it's not the same without some so-so musician banging a different broad every night.
