In what is becoming fairly common around election time, another Hollywood star is claiming that if she doesn’t get her way politically she is going to move to Canada. Sophia Bush, the star of One Tree Hill, is the latest casualty to threaten a northern escape from America if Obama is unseated by a Republican challenger.
Speaking to Fox News Bush stated,
“I will not vote for a candidate who thinks you can ‘pray away the gay,’ I will not vote for a candidate who thinks that he has more rights to my uterus than I do, I will not vote for a candidate who thinks that it’s okay to dump toxic waste in the ocean.
I’m afraid for our country that people like this (current Republican candidates) could even be thought of as the president. I live in a country where I believe all men are created equal, not just wealthy white guys.
I believe all men, all women, regardless of race, gender, socioeconomic background, you deserve the same rights. If that’s not where our country is going, then I’ll leave. I don’t need to live here. I’m out! I’ll go to Canada, peace! See you later.”
She was asked if she considered running for politics herself, and she said said she had contemplated it many times but felt that politicians are mostly useless.
She campaigned heavily for Obama in 2008. She said while there is some level of disappointment she has for the way Obama has behaved as President, she feels that the country has witnessed the man [Obama] being “broken”.
Bush remarked,
“I saw a lot of attempt at change. There are certainly some things that have let me down but again, I just feel like we’ve watched a man be broken.”

Canada isn't a utopia but it's much better than the US. I moved here 4 days after Bush was re-elected and I am trilled with my move. I am 100% healthier due to it's health care, my educational and job options are better, and as a woman my rights are better protected.
Canada is pretty great.
Also I can really think about having a child here, and I couldn't if I was still living in the states due to the costs.
Which one is it?
Canada's not perfect, and certainly not under Harper's dumb ass but the political climate here is currently way more in line with her beliefs. Plus, her father is Canadian so she is technically automatically eligible for Canadian citizenship anyways. But all that said, I don't think she was being literal about moving here.
SB <3
The off the cuff crap of things need to change, which they do, and progress takes to long, which it sometimes does, followed by hyperbolic or not, I'll take my ball and go elsewhere, that annoys me.
Thank God the biggest leaders of progress in the USA didn't throw in the towel and go cry in Canada. smh

All my favs are republicans. It sucks. lol
Also, most people who say they'll move to another country if xyz happens are being hyperbolic.

Yes things need to change here, but she can't have it both ways in terms of personal power and politics, having some and having none. You want to change shit you stay and fight it out no matter whose in office. Join action groups, write letters, get informed, inform those around you, follow the money and put pressure on the lobbies and donors. Vote out assholes who don't vote but still collect their paycheck.
Obama alone was not going to save us. While I don't want a Pub as President, they alone won't damn us.

~is perfectly calm~

ummmm...they're trying real, reaaaaal hard to though.
Patriotism isn't blind obedience... it's knowing when to stand and help change things when you know your country is doing wrong.
Both my parents and their siblings immigrated. My aunt lives in Boston with her family and the way we live our lives compared to constant shortages they face, I'd never switch.
