Lady Gaga Confesses to Buying Designer Fakes and being Italian


She's an advocate of high-end fashion couture but now Lady Gaga is singing the praises of designer knock-offs, too.

The singer, 25, revealed that she bought counterfeit designer gear on last month’s trip to Japan.

“In Tokyo, they have all these stores that have fake Chanel and Versace,” she said. “And I’m an Italian from New York, so I still buy it. This jacket is a fake.”

Gaga was talking to a group of fans in the US last week and advised them to go shopping in thrift stores and customise their own purchases rather than shell out their life savings on expensive garb.

Interestingly, she vowed last June to wear nothing but Versace for two months as she was having a “love affair” with Donatella’s designs. Looks like the love affair may be over now.

I hate when people wear designer knock-offs. If you can't afford the real deal, just get something similar from a cheaper designer. There's a difference between buying a quality dupe from another brand name company and wearing something that's fake and trying to pass it off as the real thing. It's tacky and desperate, and it makes people look materialistic and pretentious tbh.

I love fake handbags though. and not because they are ~brand xy~ but because I like the designs. and often the fake ones are a nice leather as well.

lol this reminded me of a story my teacher told us once. i went to a fashion institute and a teacher of mine was a buyer for a big department store waaaay back in the day. He used to travel to Europe a lot and one day he bought a fake Gucci belt. He said it looked so real that he went to the Gucci store to exchange it for a real one and no one caught the fact that it was a knock-off. I'm sure that kind of shit wouldn't fly today, but still, wouldn't that be amazing!

I saw that on Youtube. I forget her screen name but she's an older lady and her husband bought her Lous from Saks or something like that. Anyway, they were fake and she talked about how people will do what your teacher did but the problem with that is that the store can end up selling the fake item to a customer. I got paranoid after that.

Who gives a fuck what people choose to spend their money on? I think the bigger issue is that designer knockoffs are usually made by children in sweatshop conditions and that's why they're so cheap.

I thought Japan is super strict about counterfeits? Whenever I go through Narita airport there are signs and signs and signs about counterfeit luxury goods and how they're very thorough in checking their authenticity.

Holy crap, you can't walk down a street in Seoul without running into knockoff carts. It's completely desensitized me to it.....and, because I see so many of the cheap knockoffs, it makes the actual product look cheap by association...

I live in Tokyo, and there's not as much counterfeiting as Lady Gaga is making it out to be. However there are heaps of stores that sell knock off products.
