I never thought of it as something people would enjoy outside of America. It is just a variety show with skits...I thought other countries had their own versions. I dunno it is weird for some reason.
I imagine heterogeneous (or at least relatively so) societies in the world are just very different in terms of this stuff all over the world.. I know blackface is done in the netherlands for holiday celebrations too.

It's true. Whenever I go to my mom's friends' dinner parties (she's Korean and pretty much entirely has korean friends), sometimes the talk turns to black people and how "it's in their blood to be lazy." I wanted to punch those people in the face.
Black face is very common in East Asia. There's a Hong Kong toothpaste called Darkie, with an Al Jolson caricature as their mascot. Some years ago, they tried to bring it over to the US. Went over as well as you imagine.
Maybe I'm not getting the humor or offensiveness to this video (I'm not trolling, I genuinely don't understand). How is this different from "Shit White Girls Say to Black Girls".
You can't compare whiteface to blackface, because this sort of thing has to be considered in context. Blackface has a history that whiteface doesn't. Sure, blackface doesn't have the SAME sort of history in South Korea that it does in America, but it's still obviously a stereotype/caricature that they've imported from American culture, and as such it's still offensive.
i dont think asians want to look black but they enjoy the hiphop culture that's dominated by black people. maybe some of us are confusing black people with hiphop
exactly this! i remember reading a blog by this black guy who was teaching in japan on a program that's king of like JET (not sure). but i remember in one of his entries he said that one of his students really wanted the corn rows, but he wouldn't get them, so instead the student shaved his head into the style of having cornrows.
