Emma Roberts Puts College On Hold

Photobucket

So much for the old college try! Life & Style has exclusively learned that Emma Roberts, who was a freshman at Sarah Lawrence College, has decided to put her studies on hold -- for now.

"She's taking a break from Sarah Lawrence," a friend of hers tells the new issue of Life & Style, on newsstands now. The 20-year-old actress' rep confirms to Life & Style, "Due to work commitments, Emma has had to defer her college experience."

The friend adds that Emma's romance with Glee's Chord Overstreet, 22, is also a factor; he lives in LA and Sarah Lawrence is located in Bronxville, N.Y. "Emma's in love and wants to spend time with Chord," says the pal. "You can't blame her!"

And ever since the couple were first spotted getting cozy at the Coachella music festival in Indio, Calif., in April, they've been inseparable. It's no wonder Emma has wanted to extend their spring-summer romance into the winter!

grilled_cheese 4th-Jan-2012 07:46 pm (UTC)
Of course she is. IDG what celebrities think college is all about. Maybe it's just the luxury of being rich and knowing you don't need it in the long run.
swampwalkers 5th-Jan-2012 09:34 pm (UTC)
that's mostly what i think it is
ohkimosabe 4th-Jan-2012 07:47 pm (UTC)
Tough life.
ilikeandrewbird 4th-Jan-2012 07:47 pm (UTC)
Celebs, regardless of how non-relevant they are, are never treated normally in college.
xtinkerbellax 4th-Jan-2012 07:48 pm (UTC)
She could always transfer. IDK, if I were in a lot of these girls shoes I wouldn't go to school. I like to learn but I'm not much for structure. Or exams.
ilikeandrewbird 4th-Jan-2012 07:50 pm (UTC)
or learning
loverelapse 5th-Jan-2012 07:21 pm (UTC)
This! I crave knowledge and want to learn, but the structuring of school bothers me and some exams are pointless and just ugh.
quietly1987 5th-Jan-2012 09:55 pm (UTC)
Sarah Lawrence is the school for you! No prereqs, no exams, no grades. (Loveeee my alma mater.)
quietly1987 5th-Jan-2012 09:54 pm (UTC)
There are no exams at SLC. No grades, either. Actually, there's very little structure at all.
totalroyalty 4th-Jan-2012 07:49 pm (UTC)
tell that to james franco son
swampwalkers 5th-Jan-2012 09:40 pm (UTC)
LOL. was it posted on ontd about the professor who got fired for allegedly not pandering to him?
totalroyalty 6th-Jan-2012 08:19 am (UTC)
it was! I've always found him ridiculous for taking 60 units in one semester wtf d00d. unless he secretly has a terminal illness and wants to learn as much as he can before he dies, what's the rush?
xo_prettywords 4th-Jan-2012 07:49 pm (UTC)
"Emma's in love and wants to spend time with Chord," says the pal. "You can't blame her!"

Can't blame her for dropping out of school to be with her boyfriend? Yep, actually I can.

riot_cabaret 4th-Jan-2012 10:52 pm (UTC)
Right? That's a terrible decision. Why be a more interesting, intelligent woman when you can be incomplete without another person?
fly_chickadee 5th-Jan-2012 12:44 am (UTC)
Agreed...I love my boyfriend, but there's no freaking way I'm dropping out of school with one semester left before I graduate. I don't care if he wins the lottery. I've worked too hard for my education.

/feminist soapbox rant :P

I was just watching that last night. Poor Joan. I know she wanted to be a housewife, but man I really wanted her to go to Yale :(

Late but I find it hilarious that you're referencing a Julia Roberts movie in a Nepotism Roberts post. A+!
teaaet 4th-Jan-2012 08:01 pm (UTC)
my cousin had three different friends who transferred colleges after one year because they missed their boyfriends. one girl had a big scholarship at pomona and transferred to michigan state to be with her boyfriend, who she has now broken up with. i wanted to know (1) why the GIRLS were always the ones transferring, and (2) why these girls thought their high school relationships were so important they had to make such a big change.
celtic_thistle 4th-Jan-2012 08:51 pm (UTC)
I got with my fiance right before my sophomore year of uni--he was adamant that I finish school and graduate and not let anything get in the way of it.

His mom had left school for his dad and 17 years later his dad left her high and dry with no degree or work experience...she had to bust her ass to build a career after all that. So any man with a clue about the world needs to understand that women need schooling and work experience these days, and expecting a woman to drop everything for you is selfish and stupid.
bonjourchloe 4th-Jan-2012 11:24 pm (UTC)
ugh there are at least 3 girls at my small liberal arts schools that transferred because of their boyfriends. i'm so grossed out by that ughhh
climbfall78 4th-Jan-2012 07:50 pm (UTC)
Geez, if you're going to take a break from school, do it for a legitimate reason and not because you want to spend time with your s/o.
skeet_skeet 4th-Jan-2012 07:51 pm (UTC)
Giving up school for a man is so lame. lol

But it most be hard to succeed at something that nepotism can't get you.

isn't sarah lawrence where all the lesbians go? or am i thinking of wellesley?
la_petite_singe 4th-Jan-2012 07:54 pm (UTC)
Nope, they both kinda are. And Bryn Mawr. Which is why my mother was wigging when I applied to them. Heh.
ebenetwo 4th-Jan-2012 07:56 pm (UTC)
hang on a sec... i know where that icon comes from...

needs to leak, i need to iconize so many scenes!
bush_tetra 4th-Jan-2012 07:56 pm (UTC)
I thought it was Smith
beaddddddsss 4th-Jan-2012 08:04 pm (UTC)
Yeah, along with Bryn and others, and some still maintain that Vassar is which is verily wtf. Sarah Lawrence takes the cake, though. So mother goddamn stupid. Everyone thought I was a lesbian aspiring writer when they found out I applied to Sarah Lawrence. I was expecting "oic 10 Things I Hate About You" references, but instead I got the "omg why didn't you tell me" and/or "JESUS WANTS YOU TO WANT PENISES" remarks.... for applying to an undergraduate program.

I got my MRS to a DOOD at SLC. BOOM!
sergeantquakers 5th-Jan-2012 08:16 pm (UTC)
All of the Seven Sisters, although there's only five "official" sisters now since Radcliffe dissolved and Vassar went co-ed, are known for having a lot of lesbians: Wellesley, Smith, Mount Holyoke, Bryn Mawr, and Barnard. And they're all fucking fabulous.
orbandsceptre 5th-Jan-2012 11:28 pm (UTC)
See I always thought it was where rich families sent their cocaine addicted faux hipster kids, who would proceed to spend the next four years snorting lines in Brooklyn bathrooms on the weekend.
daydream11 8th-Jan-2012 06:29 pm (UTC)
Smith is the lesbian Seven Sister, but all women's colleges (or former women's colleges that are still heavily female) have the lesbian rep.
myxwill 4th-Jan-2012 07:52 pm (UTC)
Chord Overstreet is a trouty derp.
arcadiacake 8th-Jan-2012 12:34 am (UTC)
