With American Horror Story‘s first season resting in peace, Ryan Murphy is turning his attention to the show’s second act.
In a conference call with reporters on Thursday, the show’s cocreator confirmed that Season 2 will be “radically different” from Season 1. That means a new setting and a (mostly) new cast.
“The second season of the show will [feature] a brand new home or building to haunt,” Murphy said. “It will also have a new overriding theme.”
And in an unprecedented twist for an ongoing series, some current castmembers will return — but they’ll be playing new characters. (Murphy confirmed that current leads Connie Britton and Dylan McDermott will not be back, at least not as series regulars.) ”There will be familiar faces and some new faces,” says Murphy. “People that are coming back will be playing completely new characters… Getting to tell a different aspect of what an American horror story can be [every season] is fascinating.”
Murphy said he’s currently in talks with a few members of the Season 1 cast to return full time, but he declined to name names. An official announcement about the new ensemble and storyline will be announced in February. In the meantime, Murphy offered this tantalizing tease: “There’s a clue in the last three episodes where we say what the second season will be.”

SOME ACTORS ARE COMING BACK BUT WILL PLAY DIFFERENT CHARACTERS?
SERIOUSLY????
DONE!
He's been taking showrunning/ "how to totally fuck up a TV show" tips from Tim Kring, y/y?
constance can tell the future, duh
also, my money is on aunt jo in florida or wherever they were heading.
now it's time to jump ship
also when they were decorating the tree i thought chad was gonna come out and go "no no no this is not how you decorate a tree"
It's hard for me to see them not trying to contract Jessica, Evan & Taissa at this point since they're fan favorites.
I'm excited about this! It's going to be awesome.
Cannot wait!
“There’s a clue in the last three episodes where we say what the second season will be.”
which means that there is no clue.

I CALL TROLL MURPHY.
That or he just changed the storyline completely last minute.
Both are plausible.
MAYBE...Constance had to move away and assume a new identity because her little monster kid was killing too many people?
So that'd be the same actor playing a different character. Its not exactly a new character but I'm not sure Ryan Murphy knows the difference hahaha
HE FUCKING SAID IN INTERVIEWS BEFORE THE SHOW EVEN STARTED THAT THIS WAS GOING TO HAPPEN.
"Next year of the show will be a different haunting," Murphy said. "The next season of the show will be a brand-new home or building to haunt."
.....
Murphy did say that some of the cast members will be returning (and that he's in negotiations with others, and would love Connie Britton, Dylan McDermott, or Jessica Lange to return), but those that do will be playing entirely different characters/monsters/ghosts, and that the Harmon story is completely done. Like the season that just ended, the new season will contain period and true-crime elements.
... Not sure if want.
idk i like how it's never what i anticipate. violet being dead was like WAT. the mom dying was like WAT. i thought the dynamic would be the dad and his dead family, but then he died! idk it's a good show that keeps me guessing.
I'm also wondering where the dog was for the past 6 episodes, but I'm glad she's alive and with Marcy now..? Idek.
the finale was so fucking weird too. it was just a hot mess. ugh
But still, this is just... weird. lol
