Zahara got some new hair <3

She's always given the impression of cute little girl with low maintenance wash and go hair.

But now it seems Zahara Jolie Pitt is ready to shed that image with a stylish new 'do. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's six-year-old daughter showed off trendy new hair plait extensions this weekend as the family set out to see a show in Las Vegas.

Even though she was with her superstar parents, all eyes shifted to Zahara's new 'do as the family arrived to take in Sin City's latest musical extravaganza.

In 2009, haughty Newsweek writer Allison Samuels called out Jolie for not 'doing something' with Zahara's hair.

Samuels' mean spirited article set the blogosphere on fire with many readers taking aim at the reporter herself, saying she should focus on more important issues than a child's hair.

Perhaps Samuels will have more to say now that Zahara has unveiled a different hairstyle.

i've never heard them called "hair plait exentions" before. those braids are going to look cute on her for all of a week before they unravel
roguewave3 19th-Dec-2011 08:41 am (UTC)
lol me either. If it was her natural hair it would but when you get it done professionally it's long lasting. I use to when I was elementary school. I'm surprised she has them because she is so young. That shit hurts.

This was my first thought too!
pink_dog 19th-Dec-2011 06:49 pm (UTC)
can they do them a little looser on a kid? I know nothing about this but I always assumed they did them so tight so they'd last a long time but this kid has the money and time to get them redone frequently, so do you think they did them so tight?
frankthesheep 19th-Dec-2011 09:28 am (UTC)
"hair plait extensions"....probably written by a white person.
oh7 19th-Dec-2011 04:07 pm (UTC)
If the braider dipped the ends in hot work or burnt them the braids won't come out.
beatlesluv 19th-Dec-2011 05:00 pm (UTC)
MTE TBH I'm cackling on the name. They look cute on her

this article is killing me
lovexemity 19th-Dec-2011 08:45 am (UTC)
Right? What image can a six year old shed? Maybe they can write about how she's giving up picking her boogers and Shiloh's decision to stop peeing in the pool.
shanny_w 19th-Dec-2011 09:38 pm (UTC)
it was a conscious decision to change up her image
thewunderland 19th-Dec-2011 08:32 am (UTC)
"hair plait extension" are never a good look, the ends tend to look weird.
she looks stylish though, I want that jacket in adultsize
roguewave3 19th-Dec-2011 08:42 am (UTC)
o...

nicolesnitchie 20th-Dec-2011 01:35 am (UTC)
lol wtf

and i tried not to laugh but ending that comment w. "i want that jacket in adultsize" did it for me.
ilikeandrewbird 19th-Dec-2011 08:34 am (UTC)
that girl is gorgeous
ilikeandrewbird 19th-Dec-2011 08:35 am (UTC)
Shiloh's a lesbian right? I dont think its a stage
violentirony 19th-Dec-2011 08:42 am (UTC)
wow.
evett 19th-Dec-2011 08:47 am (UTC)
lesbian or not

I think because Z is obsessed with her mother and wants to dress like a tiny clone so it makes Shiloh look really butch in comparison

but in reality Shiloh dresses like millions of other little girls in unisex clothes.
leitao 19th-Dec-2011 09:17 am (UTC)
LOL seriously. Lots of little girls wear plain ol' pants and t-shirts. It doesn't make them gay nor does it make them straight. They're just children wearing comfy clothes. *shrug*

(I for one wore all of my brother's clothing as an elementary school kid, because I thought he was super cool and wanted to be him, lol.)
beatlesluv 19th-Dec-2011 05:01 pm (UTC)
Srsly!!! Can people not label her just yet. It's awful enough society has to put a stamp on you.
entelodont 19th-Dec-2011 08:53 am (UTC)
yes, she now owns three cats, six Tegan and Sara albums, and a pair of Keens
vag_breath 19th-Dec-2011 09:17 am (UTC)

boomstick 19th-Dec-2011 12:20 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I heard she's dating Ellen Page.

arisma 19th-Dec-2011 01:41 pm (UTC)
I say let a kid hit the double digits before you start shoving them into a gender binary slot.
sapitacherry 19th-Dec-2011 03:32 pm (UTC)
meh, i think she worships big brother Maddox and dresses to be like him
ladyofmachinery 19th-Dec-2011 08:38 am (UTC)
Sorta OT but I have no idea how anyone who's witnessed the Bosnian war first hand can watch that Angelina Jolie movie. Before I moved to North America, my school in Croatia made it mandatory to watch No Man's Land and I walked out on that 20 minutes in. No thanks. I lived in Sarajevo during the war and I'm SHOCKED there's people who've been through that war who can actually watch that. And I was just a child during that war. omg.

ON TOPIC though, Zahara is so fucking cute!

popartpistol 19th-Dec-2011 11:26 am (UTC)
It'll def won't be making it's money in any of the countries where the war happened, will it? It seems so incredibly recent still :(
nasstasja_sk 19th-Dec-2011 11:58 am (UTC)
I'm Croatian and yeah, IA.
ifuckingluvya 19th-Dec-2011 01:12 pm (UTC)
may I ask why? it is a terrible movie (as it doesn't show what really happened there/tactless movie) or it's too painful to you to watch it?

and I'm sorry you have to live through all that : (
belkisa 19th-Dec-2011 03:28 pm (UTC)
ia. I can't watch any war movies especially not about the Bosnian war, but I'm curious about this one and how Angelina portrayed it. I've never seen No Man's Land, I've started, but I couldn't go through it. my diploma dissertation is about the mass rapes on woman in the Bosnian war and just reading the witness statements on www.icty.org makes me so sick. I don't really know how I'm going to watch it tbh
slaughtermatic 19th-Dec-2011 08:05 pm (UTC)
This is late but I have to comment because what? I get if you're saying the movie is shit, which it is, but how does it compare to No Man's land? It's one thing saying it's to painful for you to watch, but asking how other people can is just stupid. You make powerful movies so that people watch, learn and start discussions. You don't hushhush something that significant. And this is coming from a Bosnian that experienced the war as well, though it in no way was "Bosnian".
ladyofmachinery 19th-Dec-2011 08:28 pm (UTC)
Wow. CALM. DOWN. I was merely pointing out how I'd never be able to watch a film with that subject adding curiosity to the fact that others who have been through the same are handling it better. I also mentioned no mans land because of the subject matter, not to compare.
lovexemity 19th-Dec-2011 08:40 am (UTC)
Best dressed family anywhere.
roguewave3 19th-Dec-2011 08:45 am (UTC)
How the hell did they get a six year old to sit through that? I use to get the smaller micro-braids when I was younger and it took all damn day. My head was so sore. She looks cute but she has nice hair. She doesn't need extensions. Angelina needs to learn how to braid her natural hair or get someone else to do it.

Edited at 2011-12-19 08:45 am (UTC)
lovexemity 19th-Dec-2011 08:52 am (UTC)
People complain that they're not doing enough an now it's that they're doing too much?

Extensions can be a very good protective style. They last longer than braiding natural hair. I had braids like that when I was younger, they didn't hurt because they weren't done too tight, and my hair would grow a lot. This kid's braids aren't anywhere near micro anyway, they aren't that small. I bet it takes longer to twist my natural hair(6 to 7 hours) than it would to do those braids.
roguewave3 19th-Dec-2011 09:02 am (UTC)
I know they aren't micro-braids considering that I had them. I have all different kinds. They can weaken your hair though. I wish I didn't get them for so long. She has a nice full head of hair. She doesn't need fake hair imo.
putyohandsonme 19th-Dec-2011 09:31 am (UTC)
Yea they are probably the best choice for her since they are steady traveling.
paupiedequincey 19th-Dec-2011 12:01 pm (UTC)
When I was six I was very vain and demanding when it came to how I wanted to look. I BEGGED my mom to have my ears pierced and get a perm. She finally gave in and let me and I sat through the pain like a trooper because I wanted it so bad..
disco_balla 19th-Dec-2011 03:59 pm (UTC)
She has "nice hair"? What does that mean?
oh7 19th-Dec-2011 04:11 pm (UTC)
Now I'm trying to picture Angelina braiding Z's hair. Hm. I wonder if she asked any Black stylists for tips.
beatlesluv 19th-Dec-2011 05:04 pm (UTC)
It's a good protective style, and you'd be suprised with the methods you can get a six year old to stay put. Also, it won't damage the hair if it's taken out every six weeks, given two weeks to breathe, then put back in again. And since we know her parents seem to actually research on her hair (thank God), you know they're paying someone to do all of that.
guccipucci 19th-Dec-2011 08:46 am (UTC)
SO glad her parents are letting her explore her full ethnicity by letting her braid her hair instead of relaxing it!!!
missingalphabet 19th-Dec-2011 08:55 am (UTC)
Well, they're still hair extensions.
putyohandsonme 19th-Dec-2011 09:17 am (UTC)
It is not uncommon, I don't see what they big deal is, there are parents giving their little girls yarn extensions, and braids all the time, people need to calm down lol.
onaan 19th-Dec-2011 11:18 am (UTC)
This.
disco_balla 19th-Dec-2011 04:00 pm (UTC)
Seriously this post is bringing all the insecurities out in black women. SMH.
la_fours 19th-Dec-2011 04:31 pm (UTC)
Yes to all of this.
guccipucci 19th-Dec-2011 08:49 am (UTC)
Do we think Angelina braided her hair 4 her???? LOVE her
entelodont 19th-Dec-2011 08:50 am (UTC)
Angelina's going full creepypasta in that last shot

with that said, wtf at this article and the hilariously bizarre way it criticizes someone for being too invested in this poor child's hair by being even more invested in this poor child's hair
rivadavia 19th-Dec-2011 08:51 am (UTC)
zahara is amazing & fab, just like her mother
reallyupthere 19th-Dec-2011 08:52 am (UTC)
I hate when parents put extensions in children's hair.
legalliquid 19th-Dec-2011 09:39 am (UTC)
I used to get extensions even when I was little. Not all of the time, but sometimes if you're traveling/really busy, it's the best way to actually strengthen your hair. Plus, extensions last longer than natural hair braids if you're a little kid.
myblackass 20th-Dec-2011 12:09 am (UTC)
I hate super long tight extensions on little girls but I have no problem with a little yarn or whatever done in a cute girly style. Especially if the parent isn't really skilled at caring for natural hair or if they kid plays sports or goes swimming a lot.
devetu 19th-Dec-2011 08:55 am (UTC)
hair plait extensions? is that what we're calling single braids now? lol, oil
devetu 19th-Dec-2011 08:55 am (UTC)

They look like individuals to me. Well maybe because of the ends they look more like plaits.
devetu 19th-Dec-2011 11:04 pm (UTC)
this comment makes zero sense to me, maybe they're called something different wherever you live
kawaiisis86 19th-Dec-2011 05:20 pm (UTC)
British journalist. Plaits=Braids.
