Hairspray movie star Nikki Blonsky cleans a salon after struggling to land more Hollywood roles

Times are tough and with a career in Hollywood now looking unlikely, Nikki Blonsky has decided to go back to her roots. (lol, A+ pun there, guys...)

Blonsky, who starred alongside John Travolta in Hairspray and also appeared in the short-lived TV series Huge, has just begun working at Superstar Hairstylists in her home town of Great Neck.

The actress has gained a cosmetology license and is working at a salon in Long Island, where she does everything from applying make-up to sweeping the floor, according to Radar Online.

Superstar: Nikki with her first ever customer, Rosa, at Superstar Hairstylists

'I was in the salon having my hair done and I saw her working there,' a shocked customer told the website.  'I couldn't believe it. She was sweeping up hair but also doing people's make up.'

But Nikki, who also appeared in Ugly Betty, has not given up on her dream of hitting the big time again.

'I asked her if she was still acting and she said that she is auditioning a lot,' she continued. 'But she needs a day job too.'

At least Nikki's new career seems to be a success so far. The salon's Facebook page is full of welcoming messages for her and rave reviews of her work as a make up artist.

One customer said: 'I was so surprised today when I showed up at Superstar to get my makeup done and it turned out to be Nikki Blonsky applying it.'

'She did a great job and I really look like a SUPERSTAR. Thanks to all the wonderful staff and I wish all the best to their newest employee cosmetologist Nikki Blonsky.'

Back in July reports had spread that Nikki was working in a shoe store in Great Neck.

But Nikki denied the story on Twitter saying: 'So much false reporting! & false quotes. NO career changing! just experimented 4 a day working @ a friends boutique 2 see what it was like.'

'NO singing or dancing happened, but it was fun trying something new for a day : )'

Strangely, the owner Steven Dann was quoted as saying Nikki was working, 'two to three days a week dependent on her schedule.'

Annnnnd she tweeted (here and here) to confirm the story -
