Duncan Jones talks Moon's Sequel 'Mute'

A couple of weeks back, Duncan Jones and his producing partner Stuart Fenegan hosted two special screenings of Moon at The New Beverly in LA. On one night, Sam Rockwell joined them, and the video cameras were switched on.

I’ve just watched a video of the whole Q&A with thanks to Man Made Movies, the dogged and determined Jones support blog.

The clip is embedded below, so you can enjoy it too. First, though, a transcript of Jones’ answer to the question “Is there any chance of a Moon sequel?”

You’ll definitely see the world expanding. As far as the epilogue of Sam Bell’s adventures there are going to be… the plan was to do Mute first. Mute is a sci-fi story that takes place in Berlin. It’s very much a city film. Moon‘s obviously a film about isolation, about as isolated as you can get on the far side of the moon. And there’s a third science fiction film, which will hopefully be the next film, which is a very different thing, which I can’t say too much about right now. But all three of those are connected in that they all take place within the same universe and each one of them will have just a couple of little fingers into each other’s story, so you’ll… just a little link between them all. So you’ll find out a little bit more about what happens in Moon in Mute and in this other film.

To take that on face value, Moon is positioned as the first of the three stories, chronologically.

I’m glad to hear that Jones is still pursuing his mysterious, project and hope to find out more about it soon. As for Mute, we understand that a comic book adaptation of the screenplay is somewhere in the pipeline…

SOURCE
Omfg can't wait for Mute tbh, both 'Moon' & 'Source Code' are brilliant!

I really hope Mute doesn't suck. Moon was flawfree, and I actually really liked Source Code. He's such a good sci-fi director it's unreal
[info]thaumos 10th-Dec-2011 03:32 pm (UTC)
YES! Moon was amazeballs and Sam Rockwell was perfection. I can't wait for Mute.

What is it about Duncan Jones movies that makes men cry like babies?
Me and my husband watched "Moon" and when the credits rolled I said "huh that wasn't as good as I thought it would be" and I look over at my husband and he's bawling. So when we watched "Source Code" I said at some point "OH HE MISSES HIS DADDY" and then look over at hubby and TEARS AGAIN. Sheesh.

How did you not like Moon? I thought that was impossible tbh
[info]tink_1326 10th-Dec-2011 08:12 pm (UTC)
I wasn't a huge fan of Moon. It was very eh to me.

It looks like we're the only ones.
[info]x_steffi_x 10th-Dec-2011 03:36 pm (UTC)
I'm confused. I read this as Duncan James who was a singer in a UK boyband.
Never mind.

ALL RISE
[info]x_steffi_x 10th-Dec-2011 03:42 pm (UTC)
YOUR HONOUR PLEASE GOTTA BELIEVE WHAT I SAY.
[info]showmesara 10th-Dec-2011 04:55 pm (UTC)
Yeah, that Duncan is Jamie Olivers "hot" brother

This makes me so happy, I love movies that are set in dystopic/futuristic worlds. Moon was perfect and Sam Rockwell gave one of my favourite performances ever! I trust Duncan Jones tbh!

Moon was so brilliant.

Moon was such a great film, I'm afraid of watching a sequel that could possibly ruin it for me.

Moon made me so sad.
[info]fairchilds 10th-Dec-2011 04:21 pm (UTC)
LOVED Moon so much. I went into the cinema with only 4 other people, who were guys. They didn't seem to like it that much though, I think they thought it was an action movie
[info]closedooropen 10th-Dec-2011 04:26 pm (UTC)
Moon was INCREDIBLE. Though I watched it while I was donating blood and the parts where he's vomiting blood I was like, OHHH NOOOOO.
[info]ardenrose 10th-Dec-2011 08:45 pm (UTC)
Whaaat? Why would they play this movie while you're donating blood?
[info]closedooropen 11th-Dec-2011 02:56 am (UTC)
Lol I donate blood platelets (check it out, it rocks!) and it takes about 90 minutes so you get to choose a movie to watch while you're donating to stave off boredom. I usually choose light hearted romantic comedies but Moon was my foray into the serious. I loved it though omggg.

Moon was so so good. and it has the most gorgeous score. I hope Clint Mansell composes for Mute as well.
[info]malorn 10th-Dec-2011 04:39 pm (UTC)
I got to attend the Moon premiere in Austin with Sam and Duncan sitting a few rows from us and doing a Q&A. Such an amazing piece of work from both of them. I need to watch Source Code again. I love the concept but remember feeling a little underwhelmed. Maybe just overly expectant after the experience of seeing Moon. I will be keeping up with all the Mute press for sure.

Underrated director
[info]nicholasdee 10th-Dec-2011 04:59 pm (UTC)
moon was perfect and source code was ass.

i think the reason source code sucked was that the studio wanted to force a happy ending. i hope he sticks with his guns more.

Oh, awesome, I loved Moon! I'm still pressed about Sam Rockwell not getting a Best Actor nod for it, tbh. If the sequel happens, I hope it lives up to how good Moon was.

Sad I'm late to this post.

Moon made me bawl like a baby. :X
[info]smirk_dog 10th-Dec-2011 09:20 pm (UTC)
Same here. I don't even know how I got there, I was fine one minute, and the next I was sobbing. Such a great film.
[info]smirk_dog 10th-Dec-2011 09:19 pm (UTC)
I hope this is just as amazing as Moon!
[info]awaywithpixie 10th-Dec-2011 11:07 pm (UTC)
Oh this is so exciting to hear. I have faith that Jones and Rockwell can do it justice.
[info]listenlouder 11th-Dec-2011 12:37 am (UTC)
