11 Designers Pretend to Know What the Hunger Games Is

I'm pretty sure everyone in the world is absolutely stoked for The Hunger Games to be released in March. Seriously, this is about to be the next Twilight. And it has a huge advantage: the books are WAY better.

The main character, Katniss, played by the gorgeous Jennifer Lawrence, dons a fire dress -- which serves as one of the most important props in the trilogy. InStyle got 11 of our favorite designers to sketch what they think the dress should look like -- and you're seriously going to die when you see the results.

Everyone from Christian Siriano to Rachel Roy stepped up to the challenge and trust me when I say it's just beyond. Click through for some awesome looks and let us know which one is your fave.

Okay guys, should I start reading these books? I heard that the style sucks, but is it tolerable?
juteux 7th-Dec-2011 05:34 am (UTC)
writing is fairly bad but they are so frigging addicting. i resisted for the longest time because i don't usually like YA fiction. but katniss is an amazing heroine.
rogue 7th-Dec-2011 05:41 am (UTC)
why is the writing bad jw? i seriously enjoyed it but i'd like to know if i'm doing something wrong before i write my own book.

I would also like to know this.
sursumcorda 7th-Dec-2011 05:37 am (UTC)
i just read the first two in like 3 days. i'm fucking hooked.
sandvich 7th-Dec-2011 05:38 am (UTC)
They're addictive and I think the world is interesting. tbh once you start reading you stop noticing how bad the actual writing is.
crystalzelda 7th-Dec-2011 05:38 am (UTC)
I've done a survey lol of basically everyone I know who read the books: the writing style is pretty weak, feels rushed and not descriptive enough at points and the prose itself is eh (also written in first person present tense, which can be iffy tbh).

As for the books, here's how it breaks down: first book is addictive and is read really fast, most people love it. It all goes downhill from there: most people don't think the second book measures up the the third, and everyone I talked to almost unanimously hated the third, that it was bad, and that they felt it was obvious the author either rushed through it or was over it, so it was sorely lacking. Also, most people think that it's a ripoff of Battle Royale the book which is better.

Verdict: Eh. It's a fast read, but be prepared for overratedness.

really interesting premise and world, pretty decent characters and quick reads but really lackluster writing. I feel like this is one of those books that will work better as a film because the idea is there and its a really good idea but her writing is too simple( idkif that makes any sense)
jessiedwheelie 7th-Dec-2011 06:18 am (UTC)
The style doesn't suck. ONTD loves to hate. I'm a book snob and I plowed through all three in two days and I liked each and every one. Best series I've read in a long, long time.

Still not what I visualized when I read it, though.

The Blonds sketch can either be extremely fierce irl or tacky as fuck
fauxparadiso 7th-Dec-2011 05:36 am (UTC)
Kinda OT but not since it's related to ~fashion: Does anyone use Iman's stick foundation? Do you like it? It seems like a pretty good option for under $20.
jasmina12345 7th-Dec-2011 05:39 am (UTC)
omg yes her foundations are actually amazing tbh

I use her pressed powder and it's divine. It's one of the only brands I can find to actually match my skin tone (im a black girl) and it's not super expensive.
fauxparadiso 7th-Dec-2011 05:45 am (UTC)
Yeah, I'm black too and I'm just fed up with Clinique so I was looking at her brand (which is pretty great for the multiple shades for darker skin). Was it hard for you to figure out your shade? I'm going to guestimate using the website but since they don't have samples I'm worried I'll end up buying something off shade.

They're...neat looking?

i like shoji and rachel roy's the best. the rest can DIAF---pun fully intended. BCBG is nicely illustrated but i cant see how the flame part would be executed and the other half is so basic looking
certainswagger 7th-Dec-2011 05:44 am (UTC)
i don't hate</b> bcbgeneration or christian cota's. still not exactly what i pictured but the sketches look cool.
certainswagger 7th-Dec-2011 06:03 am (UTC)
