Kate Gosselin Limits Her Kids To One Christmas Gift Each

With Kate recently canned from her long-time TV gig and the bad economy, the mom-of-eight is asking her children to focus less on the gifts this year and more on giving back to the community.

Kate Gosselin is doing her best to instill life lessons in her little ones. HollyBaby.com spoke with a source close to the Gosselin family who tells us that Kate told her kids “one gift this year so start thinking about what you want.” Do you agree with how Kate is handling Christmas?

“Kate’s budget is tight,” a source tells us. “Kate has always tried to make sure her kids aren’t greedy, but this year especially she is trying to teach them that Christmas isn’t about gifts. She told them to start deciding what they want so she can tell Santa.”

We told you Kate doesn’t get the kids on Christmas Day but she does on Christmas Eve. Maybe their dad Jon Gosselin will shower them with more gifts?

Wtf how many presents do kids usually get? D; Is it a USA thing to get multiple presents from parents? From my parents I get 1 present and that's all
andisprohi 7th-Dec-2011 06:10 am (UTC)
She had enough money to fly out to Vegas for a marathaon. People tight on money don't run across the country like that

1. Your vagina is not a clown car
2. Children will survive 'only one gift' without turning into the GIMP.
justlikethat 7th-Dec-2011 03:00 am (UTC)
she only had 2 pregnancies. i don't think she was exactly aiming for having 8 kids after 2 times. she isn't a duggar.
monotonebanana 8th-Dec-2011 09:44 am (UTC)
u do realise she didnt have 8 different preganancies...
pandora04 8th-Dec-2011 04:13 pm (UTC)
But doesn't that make it even more like a clown car to have them keep coming out at once?
SHe had C-sections though so i guess the correct phrasing is "Uterus: Still not a clown car."
we_eat_coldcuts 6th-Dec-2011 09:32 pm (UTC)
Good. This Christmas stuff is ridiculous. We have already raised enough generations of entitled little shitheads. Let's draw the line somewhere.
mazohyst 6th-Dec-2011 09:32 pm (UTC)
Who cares? I only have 3 things on my list. Kids don't need a billion toys and I'm sure she doesn't skimp on buying them clothes and essentials during the year so...who cares?

WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM, WHERE IS HE
distant_lines 6th-Dec-2011 09:35 pm (UTC)
Got a real job and went back to a normal life. I honestly think he was the sane one in the group. I think he got caught up in the celebrity bit for awhile, but then decided he'd rather go back to flying under the radar.

drunkagron 6th-Dec-2011 09:32 pm (UTC)
my family & i are having a giftless christmas. we had a rough few months, financially, so it's a wise idea. we'll play christmas music, eat and watch the parade :) it's not about the gifts anyway.
trixx_r4_kidz 6th-Dec-2011 09:35 pm (UTC)
exactly! that's a cute xmas and i hope the good memories overshadow the rough times. thats all that matters!
drunkagron 6th-Dec-2011 09:43 pm (UTC)
ty bb :)
adri278 6th-Dec-2011 09:38 pm (UTC)
My husband and I aren't getting each other presents...we're going to put money towards a honeymoon (2 years late) probably.
foryoursake08 6th-Dec-2011 09:41 pm (UTC)
I'm thinking that's kind of how our christmas will go. I already told my mom if anyone's going to get me anything, they should give me money instead of a gift so I can pay for school. I don't need anything except a job and money. I don't need books, movies, CDs or clothes. I doubt anyone will actually listen to me though.
mikachanyo 6th-Dec-2011 10:45 pm (UTC)
same here. we are all broke and my mom might lose her job so we have to save. :(
uwannalala 6th-Dec-2011 11:14 pm (UTC)
You're not alone.

In this year we have managed to:

1) get knocked up unexpectedly and have a baby
2) My husband got a brain tumor
3) Both lose our jobs
4) move back in with my parents.

We made sure baby got her presents but we (and everyone else) are going without. In good news, we finally get our own place on the 20th! yippee!
sweetyb 7th-Dec-2011 01:04 am (UTC)
My family does a junk-exchange. We wrap up a piece of crap we don't want and make them look all pretty, then trade. Old Madd Magazines from the 70s, cheesy romance novels, half-burned scented candles, bird feeder... It's a lot more fun than it sounds, really!
milkradio 7th-Dec-2011 01:22 am (UTC)
I wouldn't mind doing that tbh. I mean, I love giving gifts, but I don't really need more stuff for myself. My mum told me my aunt (her younger sister) was asking what I'd like for Christmas and I was like "I don't need anything though?" and she was like "Yeah but she wants to get your something you'd like" so I'm sending her an email with links to the Charity:Water and The Girl Effect organisations instead.
alicel 7th-Dec-2011 05:21 am (UTC)
love ittt
hope you enjoy your holiday bb :)
lickety_split 7th-Dec-2011 08:13 pm (UTC)
My fam had our first giftless xmas when we found out our dog needed surgery and we spent all our money getting her better. We couldn't even get a tree but we decorated the house, played music, made lots of food, and helped her get better. The extra years we got with her made it soooo worth it though. That was its own gift. /sentimental
antique_faery 8th-Dec-2011 08:07 am (UTC)
I would love to do the same, but my mom has issues with over giving and insists on getting my sister and I gifts, which we feel obligated to do the same. Wash, rinse, repeat every year. I love that woman, but I wish she realized we are adults now and it's best that she treat herself and/or save that money instead.
drwolfenstein 8th-Dec-2011 05:24 pm (UTC)
I wish my family would do this! It would be a lot less stressful. We are all grown ass adults, too. If I want something I'll just go out and buy it myself you know?
reginageorge 6th-Dec-2011 09:33 pm (UTC)
rude of her, tbh
trixx_r4_kidz 6th-Dec-2011 09:34 pm (UTC)
That's fine to me, even if she didn't have 8 kids. Didn't grow up getting gifts at a child and then for some reason I got gifts in my late teens, but I didn't ask for them (nor did I want them) lol. I definitely think that's why I've grown up to be such a minimalist. I plan to give my kids 1-2 gifts as well.
vinyamar 6th-Dec-2011 09:34 pm (UTC)
There's nothing wrong with this at all.
h0tfuss 6th-Dec-2011 09:35 pm (UTC)
They probably get a lot of freebies.
superdogbiter 6th-Dec-2011 09:35 pm (UTC)
whatever but tbh i think that would suck
but she better not have her friends give her presents and open them in front of her kids, like when one of her kids was thirsty and she got herself a drink
adri278 6th-Dec-2011 09:36 pm (UTC)
My son is 2 1/2 and it's his first christmas where he really knows whats going on..it's also my first Christmas away from my family :/ Anyway, I totally went overboard with the amount of presents for him this year.
megalixer 6th-Dec-2011 09:36 pm (UTC)
OH THE HORROR
distant_lines 6th-Dec-2011 09:36 pm (UTC)
I'm okay with kids only getting one gift, but if that's not what they've known, I think it will come as a rough shock to them. They probably aren't really old enough to completely understand why things would have to change drastically. However, this definitely isn't going to be what scars them for life from their childhood, not even top 20.
alienclit 6th-Dec-2011 09:38 pm (UTC)
yep that's pretty much how I feel. Yeah it may suck if they're not used to it but life goes on.
distant_lines 6th-Dec-2011 09:59 pm (UTC)
I said this wouldn't be in the top 20 of things that would scar them for life. It is just going to be different for them, cause they probably don't have the ability to really understand the money part of everything yet.
