If Katy Perry has one major achievement beyond her music, it must certainly be putting women at ease, on a global scale, for wearing tonnes of makeup. We first came across it with her bright (dare we say gaudy) nails on her The One of The Boys artwork (to get some Katy Perry style inspiration though check out this showcase of nail art – and while you’re at it this site also has a good collection of updos) which seemed to put her foundation in context. Soon enough we forgot that she’s hiding behind half an inch of war paint.
Then we were suddenly snapped out of it when Russell Brand posted the quickly deleted photo of her in her natural state.
Her recent appearance on X Factor too gave us a bit of a shock. Her pink hair couldn’t take away from the overdone foundation even by the standards of the Saturday night preening fest. The thing is though, she does it so bloody ruddy well. Perhaps if you saw her in a club you might be surprised when the lights came up at the end of the night, but this is showbiz and we reckon she consistently pulls it out the bag.
So here’s out top ten list of who overdoes the makeup to perfection in pop:
Katy Perry
Lady Gaga – and we’re not talking about her costumes, we mean when she’s looking ‘natural’.
JLS – these boys don’t mind being touched up.
Gwen Stefani – she’s been rocking the same make up since the early 90s.
Rihanna – check out the Shy Ronnie video to see how it should be done.
JLO – She’s like Dorain Gray.
Cher Lloyd – OK we’re not sure this is a good look, but we’ve become accustomed to her face.
Nicola Roberts – She’s always on any list we do.
Avril Lavigne – A pioneer of the faux emo look.
Christina Aguilera – Have you seen Burlesque?
If you have any further suggestions then let us know.

That's not the one I use (I prefer 1000hr lash dye, but you have to buy it from some random Aussie site, so not as easy for a first time try). This one should work fine.
Anyway, the problem is, with short lashes, there's only so much mascara can do. You're just never going to achieve those insanely dramatic lashes. Those are on people using the same mascara on their naturally long lashes! So what's more important to a short lash gal is trying to look like what those naturally long lashed people look like on a daily basis. Long lashes make difference. You eyes seem brighter, more open, prettier. And lash dye gives you that, 24/7. Because it's a dye, it coats your lashes, making them marginally thicker. Because all lashes are white at the tips, it dyes the white tip, making your lashes look as long as they truly are. It's really amazing to wake up, look in the mirror, and SEE lashes on your eyes. Plus you can apply mascara during the day as well!
Anyway, pitch over. Maybe get your mom a gift certificate to try it at a salon? It's cheap, around $15. But given that it lasts 2-4 weeks, it's MUCH cheaper to do it at home, if she decides she loves it.
what do people think of orange lipstick
I always put a lot of makeup on - eyeliner, mascara, NEVER without foundation, blush, lipstick, but I do try to go for a natural look. No panda eyes or bright red lipstick. It takes me ages, and then my sisters always goes, 'you don't look any different.' <__< I've been trying to find a foundation that doesn't look like I've caked it on, but I've yet to find one. Any suggestions I can get in the UK?
I know fuck all about make-up and how to wear it. I'm almost 30, it's embarrassing.
My favourite youtube channels to watch are: makeupgeektv, pixiwoo, lisaeldridgedotcom, and sometimes I watch Michelle Phan, but she doesn't make thorough videos anymore.
Has anyone here tried BB creams? I keep hearing about them . . . they're pretty popular in Asia right now.
