The CW is continuing its comedy push with a Sara Rue vehicle. The Less Than Perfect star has landed a script deal for multi-camera comedy titled Poseurs. The project centers on Lucy (Rue), a young woman whose life is upended when her fiancee moves out and her fresh-from-rehab collegiate best friend Alexandra moves in. In order to maintain her swanky New York co-op, which doesn't technically allow for roommates, Lucy and Alex enter into a muturally beneficial domestic partnership - complete with all of the challenges and few of the perks.
Rue will pen the half-hour project, set up at Warner Brothers Television. She will ll also serve as a co-executive producer alongside long-time manager and producer Alan David.
The project marks a reunion for the CW and Rue, who hosted the network's reality seires Shedding for the Wedding last season. The series put 10 overweight couples in the same house, where they competed to lose the most weight over a three month period. For her part, Rue was a logical choice for host as she had already shed some 40 pounds on Jenny Craig, which led to a gig as the company's spokesperson.
The CW's newly installed president Mark Pedowitz has been vocal about his desire to reverse course on his predecessor Dawn Ostroff's strategic decision to abandon the comedy genre. “We are opening ourselves up to looking at comedies this year,” he told reporters during his TCA panel this past summer, claiming several of the season’s offerings –CBS’ Two Broke Girls, ABC’s Apt 23 and Fox’s New Girl-- would have worked well on the CW. (LMAO) Already, he has a smattering of comedy projects in development.
I can't, the fact that CW thinks 2 Broke Girls & New Girls would've done well on their channel is hilarious. They're on the networks they're on for a reason.
