Americans for Marriage Equality Readies for Launch
WEDDING RECEPTION: Julianne Moore, Uma Thurman and Anna Wintour are among a slew of prominent figures slated to headline a launch party for Americans for Marriage Equality today at the Calvin Klein Collection store in New York. The initiative is a public engagement effort spearheaded by the Human Rights Campaign to promote nationwide marriage rights for gays and lesbians. Also confirmed for the event are Jerry and Jessica Seinfeld, Ronald Perelman, André Balazs, Cristina and Chris Cuomo, Lauren Santo Domingo, Matt Bomer, Jay McInerney and Anne Hearst McInerney, Jon and Lizzie Tisch, Cornelia Guest and Candace Bushnell and Charles Askegard. The campaign includes videos of influential people explaining their support of marriage equality, including Mo’Nique, Newark mayor Cory Booker, John Leguizamo and Julian Bond. While at the store, guests will be able to check out a new holiday installation that went up Wednesday, whose centerpiece is a one-ton, 60-foot sculpture by British artist Nathaniel Rackowe that is suspended from the ceiling. Titled “Black Beacon,” the work emits light from within the linear steel frame and remains on view through Jan. 3.
