rumor: adele has throat cancer

'#PRAYFORADELE' has tonight become a high trending topic on Twitter in a very short space of time, with an official word from representatives yet to surface. It is also not yet known from where the rumour started. Last month the singer, who has been in the Top 10 since January with her sophomore album 21, told fans she was scrapping her US dates, explaining: "I have absolutely no choice but to recuperate properly and fully, or I risk damaging my voice forever."

It was reported yesterday that she will have throat surgery but was expected to make a full recovery. A statement read: "Doctors have ordered her to rest her voice and completely recuperate before looking to schedule any work commitments."

We will keep an eye on further developments, but at the moment nothing has been confirmed. Let's hope it's nothing more than a rumour...

This rumor is horible.

Take willow Smith instead
[info]gut_me_out 31st-Oct-2011 02:32 pm (UTC)
Horrible.
[info]demi32 31st-Oct-2011 02:39 pm (UTC)
It's not funny if it was said about a member of your family. Cancer is not funny. I lost my mom to it recently and I despise anyone to make it sound like it's the common cold.

You and gut me out should be ashamed of yourselves. You try to go through this awful disease watching your love ones suffer.

Willow has it better than Gut and gut knows it.

Assholes

i don't even look at twitter trending topics anymore, they ceased to be relevant months ago

a couple days ago, almost all the trending topics were caps lock shit about bieber or disney stars or that one direction group. idk why these kids aren't in school tbh
[info]soolegit 31st-Oct-2011 03:43 pm (UTC)
the trends make me angry as shit. usually a derogatory tag is at the top. #somethin about black people, dykes, puerto ricans, ugly girls etc
yeah the bieber kids are always up in their beliber or whatever tags why why
[info]milkbleed 31st-Oct-2011 04:30 pm (UTC)
Haha yes, in the UK that has been trending for a day or two. I loved our trending topics on Sunday:
'HARRY POTTER IS OUR LIFE'
'TWILIGHT IS MY LIFE NOW' (smh)
'Sunday roast dinner'
and 'PAUL IS HOTTER'

[info]danne_gerous 31st-Oct-2011 02:32 pm (UTC)
Wouldn't the more likely explanation be polyps on her vocal cords? All surgery doesn't equal cancer.
[info]sbennettwealer 31st-Oct-2011 03:04 pm (UTC)
Yeah, you can have surgery to remove benign polyps and nodes. But I'm surprised she'd do that. Julie Andrews did it and it permanently damaged her voice. Most singers will do anything to avoid surgery on their cords. Adele said she was doing vocal therapy - it must not have been working.
[info]danne_gerous 31st-Oct-2011 03:10 pm (UTC)
I remember hearing about Leann Rimes struggling with polyps on her vocal cords and how they said she'd likely never sing again if she didn't have them removed but that removing them would alter her voice. It freaked me out cause I was an aspiring singer and worried that would happen to me.
[info]pepto_chewables 31st-Oct-2011 05:28 pm (UTC)
The other common treatment (other than surgery) is extreme vocal rest. Like, no talking. At all. For months sometimes. Not everyone is willing to do that. Surgery is riskier, but "easier" in a certain respect. Not that surgery is easy, but, ya know what I mean.
[info]sergeant_duckie 31st-Oct-2011 05:06 pm (UTC)
Yes; polyps are significantly more likely. It happens to opera singers fairly often.
[info]wingslapped 31st-Oct-2011 02:32 pm (UTC)
I don't believe it.
[info]givemethepeasx 31st-Oct-2011 02:32 pm (UTC)
I thought it was a vocal haemorage or something and that people on twitter were just being stupid. Well, that's what I read yesterday and then I went on twitter to everyone saying omg cancer!!
[info]vacuumwnipples 31st-Oct-2011 02:34 pm (UTC)
I just GAGGED...she prob has nodules or a tear or something...
[info]warsawed 31st-Oct-2011 02:34 pm (UTC)
Pretty sure this isn't true but I hope she'll be okay either way.
[info]zanzou_chan 31st-Oct-2011 02:34 pm (UTC)
Maybe this post could be used to explain to me how Adele sings that's different from other singers which means she's doing it wrong and maybe damaging herself?
[info]bostongirl2003 31st-Oct-2011 02:45 pm (UTC)
I don't know if there's anything about her technique that's damaging, but I've read that she's a heavy smoker so that's not going to help.
[info]zanzou_chan 31st-Oct-2011 02:47 pm (UTC)
No, I know that, but I've heard on here several times about her technique being quite amateur and damaging, and I'm just not sure what that means exactly.
[info]sbennettwealer 31st-Oct-2011 03:08 pm (UTC)
It sounds to me like she's got some long-term damage and is belting over/in spite of it, which can REALLY F you up.

Her style of belting can be damaging to your cords if you aren't trained properly, don't use the right breath support, etc.

I don't know much about Adele's background, but perhaps she grew up singing improperly and it sounded good - that huskiness in her voice, which can be a sign of damage is also her trademark - so perhaps she didn't learn strategies for keeping her voice healthy.

Kelly Clarkson also sounds to me like her cords are damaged. I almost didn't recognize her when I first heard "Mr. Know-It-All."
[info]queefinyourbeef 31st-Oct-2011 03:15 pm (UTC)
adele has a beautiful voice, but her technique does suck. her vocal chords are so tight when she belts... most of the time she sounds strained or uncomfortable singing. she doesn't breathe properly either - brit awards and vmas show that.
[info]donnanoble 31st-Oct-2011 03:32 pm (UTC)
Proper technique involves using your diaphragm to push the notes out instead of using your throat. If you're singing from your throat, you're going to damage your vocal cords.
[info]wikkidraven 31st-Oct-2011 02:34 pm (UTC)
hope it's not true but smh if people started such a malicious rumour for giggles
[info]bingomassacre 31st-Oct-2011 02:35 pm (UTC)
