His performance was subtle, but piercing and intense at the same time. It's been a week since I've watched it and I'm still thinking about it. To be honest, I used to think the whole sexual addiction thing was a joke... but after Shame, I certainly don't anymore. Watching Brandon (Michael's character) struggle with it, to see how much he's handicapped by it, the toll it has had on his life... it was heartbreaking. One scene in particular in which he's having a threesome, his facial expression was one of pure pain and it captured everything about how degrading an addiction could be.
