Hiddleston + Shakespeare = Ladyboners Everywhere

Tom Hiddleston to play Prince Hal, Henry V for BBC in 2012

Actor Tom Hiddleston is set to play the same role three times - in three separate films under two directors.

Hiddleston has been tapped to play a young Hal in both parts of Richard Eyre's adaptation for BBC TV of Henry IV. Then he's slated to tackle the same role, this time as King Henry V in Thea Sharrock's BBC film.

"I play him as Hal in the Henry IV films, when he's a rebellious drunkard - the equivalent of a party animal today: a young man who won't take responsibility for his actions," Hiddleston told The Daily Mail's Baz Bamigboye. "Then, in Henry V, he's grown into the warrior king who leads his troops into battle at Agincourt. It’s as if I’ve been preparing to play Henry for a while. Anyone familiar with the plays will know that I need to ride a horse. I battle wits with my father, and know something about war."

Hiddleston had leading roles in Declan Donnellan's company Cheek by Jowl's productions The Changeling (in which he played Alsemero and for which he received an Ian Charleson Awards 2007 Nomenation), and Cymbeline (Posthumus Leonatus & Cloten), for which he won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Newcomer 2008, notably being up against himself in the same category for his portrayal of Cassio in the Donmar Warehouse Othello.

His Donmar Warehouse credits include Cassio in Michael Grandage's production of Shakespeare's Othello alongside Chiwetel Ejiofor and Ewan McGregor, and later Lvov in their West End revival of Chekhov's Ivanov.

His TV credits include Magnus Martinsson in the BBC detective drama Wallander, Bill Hazledine in Suburban Shootout, John Plumptre in the BBC costume drama TV film Miss Austen Regrets and William Buxton in the Christmas edition of BBC costume drama series Cranford.

All three movies are set to air next year.

Smiles, smiles all over my face right now. I never did read Henry IV though, oops.

I can't get over his receding hairline. I finally figured out who it reminded me of though.

I would still hit it though. I just would laugh at his hairline the whole time.

I have a thang for receding hairlines. How did JK Rowling know this though when she described my bb Draco?

He played Loki in Thor and now has an extremely creep and obsessive fanbase.

He's a great actor. His stans go overboard with it though, but that doesn't negate the fact that he's really talented.
lilienveigh 16th-Sep-2011 04:27 am (UTC)
but i'm talking about his looks. I usually like weird or unusual looking guys, but he's not my cup of tea i guess idk.

i didn't either at first, but he's starting to grow on me. esp after seeing him play one of my favorite authors to perfection in Midnight in Paris!
fassavoy 16th-Sep-2011 06:49 am (UTC)
I used to think that way when I looked at his candids but then I watched Thor. He looks much better in motion imo.
endingonfire 16th-Sep-2011 03:48 am (UTC)
Love this bitch.
wauwy 16th-Sep-2011 03:48 am (UTC)
I barely remember Henry V. All those British king names start bleeding into each other, and then it's like, wait, wasn't Falstaff in this one, or was it the St Crispin's Day speech or the kingdom for the horse thing? And your head starts to hurt.
m_h_p 16th-Sep-2011 09:12 am (UTC)
I knowwww, I had to read all the Shakespeares for my exams, and by the end I was all "...there's a king... and some twins... who get separated in a storm by pirates... and some witchcraft..." *head explodes*
where_i_begin 16th-Sep-2011 03:51 am (UTC)
I like him as an actor but he doesn't give me a ladyboner in the slightest.

I will never ever look at him the same way again thanks to Tumblr.
carboni 16th-Sep-2011 04:03 am (UTC)
The same thing happened to me. I like him and all, but the way those girls droll on him so obsessively is pathetic. i don't know.
la_petite_singe 16th-Sep-2011 04:06 am (UTC)
There's really only a few that are legit crazy, the rest are just sort of cute and enthusiastic. And I think the absolute craziest ones officially flounced or whatever after Hiddlesgate, so...
redhobbit 16th-Sep-2011 06:04 am (UTC)
Most of the crazies are gone now, they dropped him so fast when they found out about his gf/wife/fuck buddy/whatever. But that was a scary, wanky time to be on Tumblr.
bohemianvixen 16th-Sep-2011 08:31 am (UTC)
All fandoms have those. When the fads and trends die down, the crazies fade away, too. I've been a longtime fan of Cillian Murphy and there was a surge in the obsessive fawning over him after his appearance as Scarecrow in Batman Begins. Then it died down, only to resurface again after Inception. Now, his fandom is a bit quiet but I expect it to flare up again if he does show up as the main villain in the next Tron movie.

I think it's the smile. They have a very similar mouth.

I only say that since I scrolled up to see if I could see it.

I like to think of Fassbender as the Evil Twin. He's so scary sexy.
