In other news about the apocalypse 'Romancing The Stone' to be remade as a movie and tv show....

Akira, Noir, Oldboy, Cowboy Behop, Dirty Dancing, Footloose, all these adaptations....well now we can add another beloved movie to the list....

While the background noise continues about Fox bringing a Romancing The Stone feature film into reboot territory, the property has also been optioned for a TV version that will be set for NBC. The series is going to be guided to pilot by Shawn Levy as the director for it with Mark Friedman who worked on The Forgotten. The original film was a pretty good hit back in 1984 though the sequel misfired in a lot of ways. The TV adaptation of it is looking to use name recognition more than anything else overall, which we’ve also seen with the way that Teen Wolf and Charlie’s Angels are being handled. According to Deadline, “NBC’s version will follow a successful but unfulfilled woman who teams with a risk-taking adventurer to take on weekly missions while on a larger quest to find her missing brother. ”

WTF? They are too lazy for ideas, honestly.

Ariel in that picture is like my brain, after having gone through hundreds and hundreds of paranormal/supernatural themed novel descriptions, and that's when, I decided to write my own.

Cowbo Bebop won't happen so that's one down lol.
dawn9476 3rd-Sep-2011 06:35 pm (UTC)
Hollywood needs new ideas. Making reboots of old TV shows and shows out of movies suck.

Ugh, unnecessary.

But I think I'd really enjoy a War of the Roses remake, tbh.
jeterluva 3rd-Sep-2011 07:09 pm (UTC)
This seems like such a random movie to remake.
dubiously 3rd-Sep-2011 07:17 pm (UTC)
These movies are so cheesy but idc I still love them. This blows.
demented_21 3rd-Sep-2011 07:17 pm (UTC)
Michael Douglas was so hot. And he's a great actor. And I will always love Kathleen Turner, idgaf.

But ia that this is totally random. It's not like Charlie's Angels or Hawaii Five-0, those shows are heavily syndicated and still have fans and I can definitely see the appeal of bringing them back. This? As a show? Why? Brand recognition?

And don't get me started on the movie remake. UGH. Unnecessary, especially with fourth-rate actors who will in no way compare to Douglas/Turner.
thetxbelle 3rd-Sep-2011 07:42 pm (UTC)
They better not start fucking with John Hughes films.
spider_orchid 3rd-Sep-2011 07:53 pm (UTC)
If they remake Adventures in Babysitting or The Breakfast Club/anything the had Molly Ringwald in it I will set the world on FIRE.
freeze_i_say 3rd-Sep-2011 07:47 pm (UTC)
I think in the second movie there's a line about hemorrhoids delivered by Danny DeVito's character as he's riding a camel. My 8-year-old self and my classmates thought this was the funniest shit ever in the history of life. ~childhood memories~
shortliljackers 3rd-Sep-2011 07:48 pm (UTC)
i have this movie in my instant queue! i haven't watched it yet, but i put it in there cuz i love fun 80s movies.

thetxbelle 3rd-Sep-2011 08:01 pm (UTC)
lol snooki and the fan scene
spider_orchid 3rd-Sep-2011 07:52 pm (UTC)
I'm sorry. I don't buy that there are NO new/good ideas out there anymore. That's BS. These motherfuckers just aren't TRYING and a lot of people (us included, hell ME included) are just giving in to them.
thetxbelle 3rd-Sep-2011 08:00 pm (UTC)
Honestly the real beauty about films from the '80s isnt necessarily what the film is about or whether or not its good, its about being innovative and doing shit without CGI (Back to the Future) and people still looking like regular people. No one looked like they were only 5 years older than whoever played their kid or looked out of place because they were a blue collar worker in an obviously expensive wardrobe.

Shit was believable and fun...

Unnecessary.
prophecypro 3rd-Sep-2011 08:29 pm (UTC)
There's been a few adaptions of old movies into tv shows that worked before. Also its not like the first was some sacred movie
gracie_nicole 3rd-Sep-2011 08:31 pm (UTC)
I don't foresee it happening but I'd pretty much die if they remade Gone with the Wind.
Also, I'll watch the Footloose remake only to bitch about how terrible it is...the original is flawless.
duchello 3rd-Sep-2011 09:01 pm (UTC)
I still need to see the sequel to this, its sitting somewhere on my netflix queue.

ms_vague 3rd-Sep-2011 10:14 pm (UTC)
I swear Kathleen Turner was doing so much coke during the filming of this movie.
The scene where she dances with him and talks about ~~el Corazón, her face is a lolfest.

i heard they were re-making the movie with katherine heigl & gerard butler.
westamp 5th-Sep-2011 05:59 am (UTC)
That sounds stupid! They can never duplicate the original because the writer, Diane Thomas, is deceased. She was the one who wrote the original and they didn't hire her to write the sequel therefore that sucked.
