The last time a Billboard Music Awards telecast was aired on television was back in 2006, and last night’s award show topped it in ratings.
From 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., the broadcast garnered 7.9 million viewers, rising by 28 percent from 2006 on Fox.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the award show also pulled in a 2.9 rating in the adults aged 18-49 demographic, which is a seven percent improvement from its previous run.
Furthermore, the Billboard Music Awards’ impressive ratings beat out those generated by the season 4 finale of NBC’s The Celebrity Apprentice.
With Justin Bieber as one of the night’s biggest winners, the award show was the most successful since 2003 in terms of viewership.
Among the night’s highlights were Bieber and Selena Gomez publicly kissing, Britney Spears performing twice, and Beyonce purchasing Billboard’s coveted Millennium Award, MTV News reports.
