Ghosbusters Firehouse closing its doors...

Taken from the article in the NewYorkMag:

" ... the house is set to be vacated due to budget cuts. It's one of 20 companies on a city shutdown list that is being protested by councilmen and councilwomen across the city. (Another is set to close in Lower Manhattan, as well as ones in outer boroughs and one on City Island.) If it does end up closing though, think of the real estate possibilities! A beautiful historic firehouse in the middle of one of the trendiest neighborhoods of Manhattan?"

ONTD:  I hate it when movie locations get swallowed up by time.  Is there some movie locations that you wish still existed?  Are there any that you have gone to?  STORY TIME!

The manor from Practical Magic. God, it was so beautiful

I watch that movie just to drool over the house sometimes.
luna_incognita 22nd-May-2011 12:52 am (UTC)
OMG YES. That whole movie is nostalgic perfection - Nicole, the house, everything inside the house etc.

The montages in both Ghostbusters movies were great but I love the one in GB2 a little more because of the RUNDMC song and how cool Peter Venkman was sliding down the pole!

GUESS WHO HAD THE GHOSTBUSTER BALLOON GROWING UP? ME. I had a shirt too, but I just remember being more obsessed over the damn balloon.

I have no idea where my mother got the balloon, but I remember I had one. It was in blue, white, and black.

D: i want to see it before they close it! they should turn it into a museum or something.

i've seen the steps of the columbia library, and i've been in the town where they shot the movie jumanji (i saw the house and the shoe factory).

I've been to Windsor's Ruins, where Raintree County with Elizabeth Taylor was filmed.

not so much swallowed up, but my friend lives a street away from the quick stop kevin smith used in clerks, and they painted it over recently :-\

I go to Forest Hill Station here in San Francisco a lot to take a train and it's a trip knowing Clint Eastwood was there once forty years ago filming Dirty Harry!

I can't believe that the Ghostbusters firehouse couldn't make money or shouldn't be registered as a national landmark.
allienoves 21st-May-2011 11:26 pm (UTC)
It's the FDNY(fire department of ny) that doesn't have a budget.
stentorianyell 21st-May-2011 04:19 pm (UTC)
If I had the money I'd buy this place, the Home Alone house, and the Cameron's house from Ferris Bueller.
frances_t 21st-May-2011 04:51 pm (UTC)
oh man, I hope whoever buys it takes good care of it. I'd hate to see the house get ruined by the next owners.
frances_t 21st-May-2011 04:51 pm (UTC)
The Home Alone House, I mean.. :)
strangephantom 21st-May-2011 04:20 pm (UTC)
I would love to live there. I'd slide down the fire pole all day long
frances_t 21st-May-2011 04:50 pm (UTC)
I adore the house from Father of the Bride.

the church from the graduate/bubble boy is nearby. i live in southern CA so there's tons tbh.

i geeked out in NYC going to see holly golightly's apartment and all the UWS places from "you've got mail".

I had no idea it was around all these years, wow.

If you had the Ghostbusters Headquarters toy set as a kid, you were the fucking man.

I had the 4 of them as action figures, Slimer and the car but the actual firehouse set was hard to find and mad expensive.
yourlivewire 22nd-May-2011 01:17 am (UTC)
my next door neighbors had them and we spent hours playing to our hearts content. i was always janine, because i was the only girl.
madamerue 21st-May-2011 05:26 pm (UTC)
the amusement park from crybaby!! my grandma used to take me to play there, it had a playground dreams were made of, and now its a strip mall.

Even though I've kind of "outgrown" him, I always did like James Rolfe's documentary on the filming locations for Ghostbusters 1 + 2. It includes the firehouse.

I'm glad Sleddale Hall got saved. I live not to far from it and still I am yet to visit.

sarahsumbrella 21st-May-2011 07:11 pm (UTC)
Is this because Bloomberg is closing down so many Fire Depts in the city?
Man, I hate that asshole.
hotcement 21st-May-2011 07:16 pm (UTC)
yep
sarahsumbrella 21st-May-2011 07:24 pm (UTC)
Its not the tax cuts to millionaires and letting the finance execs get away with murder thats the problem its that we have too many firefighters and teachers! Yeah they're the real scourge on the system, lets fire a ton of them, that'll help our economy!
URGH

The town of Specter, Alabama, built for and used as the set for Big Fish:

That was my second job as an extra, but it felt like the first because it was so great. They built the "town" in someone's back yard, and for a while, the owners would rent the set out for other films and private parties and such, but they couldn't keep up with everything in the end.

Lister Block in Hamilton Ontario.

The pictures are so beautiful!

They filmed parts of the first Silent Hill movie there. But I think it has been torn down since.

This is right by my school. I will be awkwardly sad when they replace it with something stupid.
fuckmekatie 22nd-May-2011 12:46 am (UTC)
The house and barn they filmed at for "The Ring" (Samara's house where her father lived) are like 10 minutes from my house.
