“Technology has changed,” Segel told the USA Today. “We’re able to show [the Muppets] doing stuff they hadn’t been able to do before. We’re pretty proud of that.”
Maybe they can eliminate any kind of puppetry whatsoever and make the Muppets entirely CGI! That ought to increase their loveability and magic tenfold. I mean it sure worked for Yoda in the Star Wars prequels.
Disney bought the Muppets in 2004 but they've been associated with Disney longer. The last project Jim Henson worked on with the Muppets was them at Disney and then they've had a 3D Muppet attraction at WDW since 91.
They've been a part of the Disney umbrella for a long time, actually. I think yesterday was the 20th anniversary of "MuppetVision 3D" at the parks.
Disney brokered the deal with Jim Henson, but Children's Television Workshop still has the rights to Sesame Street characters. So the only time you'll ever see Kermit showing up on Sesame Street anymore is in retro Sesame Street bits.

But I wouldn't be surpised if they filled in some movements with CG.
