Drea de Matteo and Shooter Jennings welcome their second child!

Congratulations to them! And the name is so much better than Alabama Gypsyrose. It's cute they named him after Shooter's father.

Waylon Jennings is perfect, therefore this name is perfect. Congratulations to them both!

Everyone is either pregnant or having babies. Two people on my facebook have popped within the past week. I WANT A BABY, DAMNIT.
swarley213 8th-Apr-2011 01:31 pm (UTC)
Everyone on my facebook is having babies or getting married. Not an exaggeration, when I logged on yesterday every status on the news feed was about baby or wedding showers. Which I don't want either, but sometimes I'll be reading and then look up from the computer and be like "Look at me, I got NOTHING. It's just me."
run_atreyu 8th-Apr-2011 01:41 pm (UTC)
LOL, this just makes me realise how successful I have been at surrounding myself with like-minded types. It's a cold day in hell when a baby or child or marriage-related status update appears on my FB.
swarley213 8th-Apr-2011 01:47 pm (UTC)
My problem is that all my best friends are 20-something males. Because where I live, those are the only other people I can find that share the 'not till 30!' mindset. And those types generally don't update their statuses but like once a week. I live in Alabama, so all the girls I'm friends with got married right out of highschool. The cunts.
run_atreyu 8th-Apr-2011 01:53 pm (UTC)
Thankfully I did not like anyone I went to high school with, otherwise I'd be in the same boat (all the girls turned out straight and seem to be going the traditional boys-n-babies route). But I turned out to be queer, thank fuck. So the vast majority of my friends are queer or, if not queer, liberal 'babies when we're old' types. I can actually think of only 2 people on my entire friend list who have babies, and in one of those cases it's a gay male father donating to a lesbian couple, triple-parenting situation. Haha. I'm generally feeling like shit about my friendships today, so this is giving me a boost.
swarley213 8th-Apr-2011 02:08 pm (UTC)
Haha, I'm glad to cheer you up there. Yeah, I'm the old spinster around here because I did not go the 1. Marry someone in the military. 2. Immediately start having lots and lots of babies, even though I'm not of drinking age, yet. And he's not even going to be around to see/help raise the spawn anyway. 3. Post about how I am a KICK ASS military wife incessantly, night and day.

(Which nothing against Military wives. I tip my hat to them, I really do. And on the guys' parts I can understand that if you're going to die, you might want to be married before hand. I don't understand the wanting to impregnate someone ASAP, because why would you want your kid to grow up fatherless, but whatevs. But, these girls I know basically treat it like it's the cheerleading squad in highschool. It's just a status symbol to them. Makes them feel proud about themselves. Meanwhile, there's affairs with the slackers in this town that didn't join the Army out the ying-yang.)

They even offered me an alternative; 1. Lots and lots of drunken unprotected sex in freshman year. 2. 3 or more abortions before I graduated. 3. Get pregnant at prom 4. Marry baby daddy. 5. Divorce baby daddy before I'm even drinking age. 6. Raise child alone on WIC and welfare 7. Sleep with anything with a dick and become an alcoholic to cope with the fact that I'm tied down.

And that's snarky as all hell, but that's honestly the route 90% of my highschool went. (That's a book, I know, but it felt good to rant about those bastards, lol. I'm tired of them making me feel like the idiot.)

It's so interesting the way cultural/social differences play into this, as well. I'm assuming you're from the US and some time ago I had a conversation on a similar topic with another ONTD-er from the US and it just blows my mind that anyone would be in these surrounds at the age of 20 or so. I'm nearly 30 and I've successfully managed to surround myself with child-free types, but even if I hadn't we have a much older average age for marriage and babies here in New Zealand (it's more like 30). So while I know there are certain communities here where it's common to have kids and marry young, it's just not part of my personal universe at all.

And you go ahead and rant and don't apologise; that would drive me batshit, to be surrounded by that. I'm in an unusual situation because I'm both asexual/aromantic and into women, so the chances of my ending up with anyone are pretty much non-existent. And also it is tremendously isolating not to know any other person in my real life who has the same sexuality/type as me. My friends are mostly gay and lesbian, and it just isn't quite the same and I never quite fit in. While I'm normally fine with that, I've been going through some angst recently (partly relating to having stalked around my ex-classmates' FBs and seeing they're all a) straight and b) having babies: ie. so completely traditional). So I completely identify with feeling these kinds of social pressures to fit a mold when, for you personally, it is very much not the right thing. All I would say is that, realistically, I don't think it's smart that people marry and have kids so young when we likely have around an 80 year life span. And the number of divorces and mid-life crises attest to the fact that rushing into many of life's 'biggest choices' at 20 is a pretty short-term view. I would rather be true to myself and not completely resent wrong choices when I was younger, than give in to social pressures and do something I knew wasn't for me. It isn't easy, though.

Waylon? Shooter?

klutzy_girl 8th-Apr-2011 12:18 pm (UTC)
According to Wikipedia, Shooter is just a nickname. He's named after his father, Waylon.

It's a family name, apparently.
swarley213 8th-Apr-2011 01:50 pm (UTC)
Yeah, he peed on a nurse right as he was born. So his dad nicknamed him Shooter......Makes me wonder what Blackjack did.

bits_and_tits 8th-Apr-2011 12:29 pm (UTC)
I want my name to be Blackjack.
mrbnatural 8th-Apr-2011 12:42 pm (UTC)
I had no idea her husband was Waylon Jenning's son! NEAT!
siouxfuego 8th-Apr-2011 12:53 pm (UTC)
Great! Now if she'd only guest star on Sons of Anarchy again...
principino 8th-Apr-2011 12:55 pm (UTC)
Great name and "Blackjack" is a super-fun nickname for a kid.
katiluv87 8th-Apr-2011 12:57 pm (UTC)
Good for them.
saffronshire 8th-Apr-2011 01:29 pm (UTC)
I had to check her IMDB page to see if "Alabama Gypsyrose" was a joke. Sadly, it wasn't.
swarley213 8th-Apr-2011 01:38 pm (UTC)
Alabama is actually pretty popular in the south. I've met a lot of Alabamas and Georgias, Carolinas and not as often, Virginias. And Gypsyrose plays right into that whole Southern outlaw that Shooter's dad was like a poster child for. So, it's cute in a way.
tricky_sticks 8th-Apr-2011 02:10 pm (UTC)
shoulda named him christafuh
grammaire 8th-Apr-2011 04:07 pm (UTC)
Sigh, how I miss them.
jenslore 8th-Apr-2011 02:18 pm (UTC)
Awww, congrats to them!

On a related note, I gave his music a short listen a while back and haaated what I heard, which is unfortunate as I really wanted to love it. I was hoping it would be more in the Hank III vein of things as opposed to the new, douched up Lynyrd Skynyrd sound it sort of had. But then my boyfriend picked up one of his CD's recently and called me a blasphemer and said it was fucking fantastic and I had been smoking crack or some shit (he takes music veeeeery seriously). So I'm thinking maybe I just got hold of some bad songs? IDK I may have to give him another try...
punkinelf 8th-Apr-2011 02:23 pm (UTC)
WAYLON LIVES ON AND ON!!!! Bless you Shooter! Not that into Shooter's music, but Dreamin' My Dreams can still bring a tear!

daijouboo 8th-Apr-2011 02:30 pm (UTC)
Good for them! They were so cute in that truth or dare video with Chloe Sevigny and Jenn Brill.
overatedreality 8th-Apr-2011 03:28 pm (UTC)
Alabama is one of those names that I love, but can't see myself actually bestowing upon a child.
artvandellay 8th-Apr-2011 03:37 pm (UTC)
You can't just predetermine your child's nickname will be blackjack. What if he exhibits no blackjack like qualities?
grammaire 8th-Apr-2011 04:07 pm (UTC)
His grandfather was a Highway Man, he'll have blackjack qualities, don't worry.
dontreadmylj 8th-Apr-2011 04:25 pm (UTC)
congrats to them but the name is really odd
klutzy_girl 8th-Apr-2011 07:11 pm (UTC)
Well, Blackjack is just a nickname. Waylon is the name of both his father and his late grandfather.
penny_love_lane 8th-Apr-2011 04:58 pm (UTC)
Aw, congrats. Love them.
kissmyirish 8th-Apr-2011 05:47 pm (UTC)
Aw, little bb Waylon.
mayfair 8th-Apr-2011 06:03 pm (UTC)
Yayy. <33 Albert is Drea's dad's name, so they honored both of the grandfathers. Love it. :)
josiefier 8th-Apr-2011 09:14 pm (UTC)
