Cast unveiled for Titanic TV series

Who, pray tell?

(my bb) Linus Roache and Geraldine Somerville are to head the cast of the epic TV dramatisation of the Titanic story being written by Julian Fellowes.

Downton Abbey creator Julian is scripting a series to be screened by ITV next year, coinciding with the 100th anniversary of the "unsinkable" ship's disastrous maiden voyage.

Linus, who has appeared in US series Law & Order and films such as Batman Begins, recently appeared in Coronation Street alongside his father William Roache (Ken Barlow).

Geraldine is known for her role as Harry Potter's mother Lily in the young wizard's adventure films, as well as appearing in BBC1's Survivors.

The cast for the four-part series also includes Celia Imrie, Toby Jones and Perdita Weeks.

The series begins filming in Hungary later this month, made by Bafta-winning producer Nigel Stafford Clark, whose successes have included Bleak House and Warriors.

Julian - who won an Oscar for his work on Gosford Park - will delve into the "unique perspectives" of the passengers on the celebrated ship which was holed by an iceberg in 1912.

James Cameron's 1997 film about the ill-fated voyage - starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet - imagined the lives of the ship's occupants and was one of the most successful movies of all time. It landed 11 Oscars including best director and best film.

The series is expected to be screened around the world.

Stafford Clark said: "There is a lasting fascination with the Titanic's one and only voyage, and never more so than in the year of its hundredth anniversary."

So it's basically just going to be Downton Abbey/Gosford Park but on the Titanic.

It would be cool if they could somehow tie it in to Downton Abbey and have a few of the characters be the ones from that family who were on the Titanic.
[info]violet_crumble9 6th-Apr-2011 02:09 pm (UTC)
that's what i was thinking.
it would be uber cool.
[info]houseofjunk 6th-Apr-2011 02:09 pm (UTC)
i saw this post and was like wtf and then i saw it's being brit-produced and decided 'they'll do it right'.

isn't that prejudiced?

it's just like miley drinking a beer at 18 is tragic, but emma watson swilling wine at 6 is fine.

where is my life. i just ate 4 of these semi-stale coconut donuts from dunkins and they were shit and i feel icky =/

when my mom took me to see titanic for the first time (4th grade) i was so excited and worried it would sell out I fell running to the ticket window and scraped my knee only to find it was sold out :( my mom, being the hbic she is, drove me to a theater an hour away to make sure I could see it opening day. I was OBSESSED with the Titanic way before the movie and so I got to see it even though it was rated ~pg13
[info]godramaclub 6th-Apr-2011 02:26 pm (UTC)
Saaame, I used to be so obsessed when I was a kid, thought I was awesome going to see a movie rated above my age, etc.
[info]shelostcontro1 6th-Apr-2011 02:29 pm (UTC)
ikr, man i was a ~hipster before hipsters i cant even
[info]luvthatdrtywata 6th-Apr-2011 03:58 pm (UTC)
so is the movie any good? i still haven't seen it.

kinda jk. i actually haven't seen it. i was in 7th grade at the time and had spent the two previous years madly in love with a little actor named leonardo dicaprio, i watched all of his movies (like basketball diaries, marvin's room, what's eating gilbert grape - ya know the standard fare for an 11 year old) and every day during the summer i would watch growing pains on usa hoping it would be a later season ep with a young mr. dicaprio. then all these stranger bitches started showing up to school in leonardo dicaprio tees and gushing about this bitch named jack. i was like "ho please, that is romeo." i refused to see that sham of a film with that sell-out leo and still haven't to this day.

like you, a ~hipster before hipsters. :)
[info]teasailor 6th-Apr-2011 04:17 pm (UTC)
lol I was in 6th grade when it came out and saw it ~~***3 times**~~~ in the theatre and thought I was so coooool. Felt awkward in the naked scene though the first time I saw it (I was with my parents).
[info]sparkfactory 6th-Apr-2011 05:56 pm (UTC)
LOL me too! i was totally obsessed with the ship and the story and everything and i taped every special about it on the discovery channel and my ultimate dream was to take a submarine down to the wreckage. i think i cried when i first found out the grand staircase had disintegrated completely.
[info]moonlitelupines 6th-Apr-2011 09:05 pm (UTC)
OMG So was I! I even wrote a speech about it for my sixth grade class (why they made elementary school kids give random speeches, I will never understand, they were the bane of my existence from 4th to 6th grades) and EVERYONE kept asking me if the movie was a true story and I just *facepalmed* for like all of 6th grade. My mom made me wait forever to see it though, so I'm jealous.
[info]sunlight_23 6th-Apr-2011 02:09 pm (UTC)
This sounds interesting tbh, plus they're commemorating the 100 year anniversary so it makes sense

[info]a_way_of_sin 6th-Apr-2011 02:30 pm (UTC)
every time Ithink of this scene I'm reminded of Bruce Almighty

Did you feel bad at all letting Leo DiCaprio drown, while you were safe floating on the big door? Could you have taken turns, or were you just too afraid to freeze your big fat ass off?
