Jared Leto as Kurt Cobain

I heard today was the day Kurt passed away 17 years ago. Can’t believe it’s been that long. So grateful for his contribution and inspiration. Not sure I’d be doing this if it weren’t for him. He gave us all permission to create no matter what our skill set and reminded me that dreams are possible. Thanks for that. This made me recall a short piece of film I shot when I heard they were making a film celebrating his life. I made it to explore the character and explore creative possibilities. I never sent it to the studio or to anyone but thought I’d share it now…

Don't get me wrong, but I feel the film would still do well because many people are always interested in seeing things about Kurt.

However, I'm always on the fence about a full-fledged, true to life, etc movie. Because at the same time I don't think fans will react well to it.

I was 11 also, and couldn't care less. My brother was pretty upset, though. Kurt was, and still is, one of the most influential people in his life. He actually got to meet Kurt's grandfather, tour the house Kurt grew up in, and hold some of his gold records.

I was four, but I knew.

My mom and all her friends were massively into the alternative and rock scenes at the time. My first love was Eddie Vedder. They were a wreck after Kurt Cobain died.

My uncle's friend was one of the kids that killed themselves after Kurt Cobain killed himself as well, which made it hard as well.

I was 13 when my friends told me and I was like, "Who?" But then I eventually discovered Nirvana became, like, a hardcore fan. (Nirvana lyrics all over my high school notebooks, KURDT KOBAIN, the works.) But yeah, if I never hear Nirvana again, it'll be too soon. I care more about Courtney now than I do Kurt. (I honestly wonder if I would've been so gung-ho about them had he not died.)
