French actress Annie Girardot dies

AFP - French actress Annie Girardot, who performed in over 100 films from the 1950s on, died in Paris on Monday after a long battle with Alzheimer's, her family said. She was 79 years old.
Born in Paris on October 25, 1931, Girardot trained as a nurse before becoming a stage actress. Jean Cocteau said she had "the most beautiful post-war dramatic temperament."
Her first silver screen performance was in Andre Hunebelle's "13 at table".
In 1969 she starred as a prostitute in Luchino Visconti's "Rocco and his brothers," playing alongside French star Alain Delon and Italian actor Renato Salvatori, also her future husband and father to daughter Giulia.
She performed in dozens of classic French films, in roles ranging from a policewoman to lawyer or teacher.
In 1977 she won the Best Actress Cesar, France's equivalent to an Oscar, for her role in Jean-Louis Bertucelli's "Doctor Francoise Gailland."
Her struggle with Alzheimer's was documented in Nicolas Baulieu's film "Life is like that".
"I've always gone to the market myself, done my shopping, my housework. I've never been a velvety star," she wrote in 1999.

R.I.P. Annie

My grandma has Alzheimer's and she's had it for TWO decades. She is just a shell of a person and I seriously cannot believe she's still here honestly. I will be more relieved than sad when she finally passes away.

I said my goodbyes to her in 2006 and haven't gone to see her since because my last memory is a really good memory

RIP because Alzheimer's is horrible

My grandma has Alzheimers and I feel the same way. It's such a sad disease.

It's the same with my grandmother, but she hasn't had it that long. My family doesn't understand why I won't go see her, and as selfish as it sounds, I just can't. It's so heartbreaking and I don't want to remember her this way.

Take care <3

That's so sad, bb. But I would do the same. My mom had the beginnings of Alzheimer's before she passed from a stroke, so I kind of know how you feel.

i practically lived at my friend's house one summer since she wasn't allowed to leave the house bc her grandfather has Alzheimers and wasn't allowed outside without a chaperone. her mom got so tired of taking care of him, she just left in the morning, and came back at night, so my friend had to do everything herself :( watch a lot of movies that summer :/

That was a nice thing you did for your friend. I'm sure you were a comfort to her while she took care of her grandfather.

anyone have a family member with alzheimers/dementia who hums and sings a lot? my grandma does this 24/7 and now she just added in some clapping.
boobearbeth 28th-Feb-2011 07:43 pm (UTC)
The brain is a mysterious organ. She maybe remembering a song from childhood or an early memory that is triggering her humming/singing.
