Rufus Sewell gets cancelled again, this time by BBC1

First Eleventh Hour got axed now it's Detective Zen

"Based on the books by the late Michael Dibdin, Zen won good notices from television critics with the Mail on Sunday calling it, "compelling, stylish and intelligent drama" and the Sunday Telegraph billing it as "the detective drama of the year".
Over its three episodes Zen averaged 5.7 million viewers, according to consolidated figures, around the same number as the first series of Wallander."

This brilliant and sexy actor needs some better luck, yes?
vigwig 26th-Feb-2011 06:25 pm (UTC)
ia, I've never seen a less than stellar performance from him in anything. He's def. underused.
mai_shiranui 26th-Feb-2011 06:49 pm (UTC)
That sucks! I still haven't gotten round to watching Zen, but it looks like the kind of show that I'd enjoy.
okmewriting 26th-Feb-2011 06:52 pm (UTC)
WTH I liked that.
demented_21 26th-Feb-2011 06:53 pm (UTC)
I adore Rufus but this was so boring, I only got through one episode.

But I totally loved Eleventh Hour, idgaf. It was so much better than most of the shit that is still on the air.

He is immensely talented. Everyone who hasn't seen that BBC adaptation of The Taming of the Shrew (ShakespeaRe-Told with Rufus -and Shirley Henderson- absolutely killing it), please hunt it down. You won't regret it.

Teaser:

(I believe the rest of it is on youtube, more or less)
lostinshalott 26th-Feb-2011 07:42 pm (UTC)
MTE and yes Taming of the Shrew was the best thing ever!
theotherayn 26th-Feb-2011 07:42 pm (UTC)

IA with everything as always.

And it was a rly good looking, stylish show, but by the time we hit the first hour I was like END ALREADY. And I usually love those british mystery shows that are like mini-movies.

And Rufus crossdressing was like the hottest thing ever. I need to rewatch TTotS.
demented_21 26th-Feb-2011 07:46 pm (UTC)
bb I totally agree as well. I was all prepared to love it but it just wasn't happening.

And, word. So sexy. And in a very well acted production in general, tbh.
dallowayward 26th-Feb-2011 10:07 pm (UTC)
LOVE IT
soulrebel14 28th-Feb-2011 07:14 am (UTC)

You have great taste honey!

On further reading of the article this Cohen chappy seems like a right arse - yes lets axe programmes that get lots of viewers because they're not "cool" enough for me. After looking at some of the detritus on BBC three I fear for BBC One. I really do.
tube_fiend 26th-Feb-2011 07:11 pm (UTC)
My dad will be devastated. He loved this series.
drop_and_roll 26th-Feb-2011 07:12 pm (UTC)
I didn't watch Zen but I loved the two Swedish versions of Wallander they showed on BBC4. I've only seen one episode of British Wallander. I also love The Killing.
ebolajez 26th-Feb-2011 08:10 pm (UTC)
The Killing is brilliant!
honesttoblog 26th-Feb-2011 07:36 pm (UTC)
He is so criminally underrated. Dark City, Dangerous Beauty anyone? I've never seen anything less than stellar from him.
theotherayn 26th-Feb-2011 07:47 pm (UTC)
unf Dangerous Beauty! I really need to watch it again
demented_21 26th-Feb-2011 07:47 pm (UTC)
Dark City is a masterpiece.
vigwig 26th-Feb-2011 08:19 pm (UTC)
Yup, DC is a literally amazing film.
onesilkstocking 26th-Feb-2011 07:39 pm (UTC)
He and Emmanuelle Beart were so great in Vinyan.
theotherayn 26th-Feb-2011 07:40 pm (UTC)
:( i was looking forward to more Rufus on screen. the 5 seconds he was in The Tourist was the highlight of the whole thing for me (well, him and Paul Bettany)
storyloves 26th-Feb-2011 07:40 pm (UTC)
wait, what? i didn't watch it but i thought it had done really well, i kept hearing about it everywhere.
lostinshalott 26th-Feb-2011 07:43 pm (UTC)
I didn't really like this show but I feel bad for Rufus he deserves better!
insensibilities 26th-Feb-2011 07:57 pm (UTC)

oh, and your icon is fab.
north and south is fantastic.
thornton was ~dreamy.
vigwig 26th-Feb-2011 08:13 pm (UTC)
He was so happy to not be typecast as a "villain / 18th C guy on a horse" for a change. I hope he/his agent get him a decent property to show off his range. Maybe they should film his work in Stoppard: Arcadia/Rock n Roll or something.
yssim999 26th-Feb-2011 08:16 pm (UTC)
i wish i had money so i could buy a tv station and employ all of my favorite, yet cursed with cancellation, actors.

Rufus Sewell UNF UNF UNF
dallowayward 26th-Feb-2011 10:06 pm (UTC)
I love Rufus but this show was boring as fuq
arsonarsenal 26th-Feb-2011 11:40 pm (UTC)
He should stop playing the back in his work so I won't feel so uncomfortable in my attraction to him! Also this is a good time to watch Dark City!
arsonarsenal 26th-Feb-2011 11:42 pm (UTC)
*the bad guy. I need to get to a paid account so I can edit comments.
sweetest_potato 27th-Feb-2011 12:28 am (UTC)
Whaaa? I loved Zen!
bluebear_74 27th-Feb-2011 03:44 am (UTC)
I don't know anything about him but I only watched "Zen" because he's hot, I hated his love interest on the show though.
mattie 27th-Feb-2011 04:10 am (UTC)
I'd watch him read the phone book, but I agree that he needs better luck.
bellacrow 27th-Feb-2011 10:26 am (UTC)
Rufus is perfection
violet_crumble9 27th-Feb-2011 12:50 pm (UTC)
