'Apple's $82 pyjamas... and other perfect ways to dress up your children,' by Gwyneth Paltrow

Gwyneth Paltrow has given her GOOP readers advice on how to dress their children - on an A-list budget, of course.

The 38-year-old star is mother to two children - Apple, six, and Moses, four - with Coldplay rocker husband Chris Martin.

In the latest issue of her GOOP newsletter she gives her advice on picking some interesting children's clothes.

She lists Busy Bees 'Summer Loungewear' - that's children's pyjamas to the rest of us - that come with a $82 price tag and a sundress by the same brand is $96

Paltrow notes that the pink and white striped PJs are 'Apple's favourite.'

Other items include MimiTens mittens that sell for $33 a pair and $50 Mudslinger rompers.

She describes a $64 Deulna Kinds Kimo dress as 'the perfect dress-up for a toddler'.

She said: 'This week we showcase some beautifully made, very original lines of children's clothing that we have recently discovered and are adoring.

'Mostly started by mothers, these companies are producing very unique, very cool, and not yet ubiquitous things for the little ones in your life.'

Paltrow admitted last month that she almost considered pulling the plug on her lifestyle newsletter after receiving a wave of criticism.

She launched GOOP back in September 2008, where she dishes out advice to her readers and encourages them to 'nourish the inner aspect'.

Paltrow's endeavours, however, have been labelled pretentious and out of touch by some commentators.

javdiosa80 21st-Feb-2011 04:29 pm (UTC)
IDK I guess with her bank account, she probably thinks 82 bucks is a bargain (LOL rich people), but she tends to be a bit preachy with her GOOP bullshit so to me this is like....eyeroll.

Celebrities are so insanely out of touch with the cost of things. I wish I could remember where I read this, but I remember a celebrity (madonna?) saying that someone JUST told her how much a plain white tshirt was and she was shocked and asked like "THE WHY DO I PAY $200 FOR MINE?"

British tabloid, take it with a grain of salt, etc.

I see nothing wrong with buying nice clothing for your children. It's her money, and $90 for a dress isn't that bad.

IA
heartstopper 21st-Feb-2011 04:19 pm (UTC)
perhaps if she plans to keep the clothes in good enough condition to pass on to friends or future kids. considering children ruin and outgrow clothes in a matter weeks it is beyond frivilous. but not surprising for good old gwynnie.
boss_sister 21st-Feb-2011 04:25 pm (UTC)
Children should not ruin any clothing if they're taught properly. And who cares if it is frivolous? Everyone spends money differently.
bent_ley 21st-Feb-2011 04:39 pm (UTC)
she has millions and millions of dollars, why isnt she allowed to be frivolous?
boomstick 21st-Feb-2011 04:42 pm (UTC)
$90 for a dress that can only be worn for a season is pretty damn bad, actually. Little kids run and play. If you're going to spend almost three figures on an article of clothing that they will grow out of in a couple of months, you are either a millionaire (I doubt it) or a moron (more likely).

Give me your money, I will put it to better use than you would.
warsawed 21st-Feb-2011 05:21 pm (UTC)
Yes but she's not just buying it for her children, she's also writing a newsletter and instructing other moms to do it as well. :/
0h_hey 21st-Feb-2011 05:38 pm (UTC)
$90 could buy a whole wardrobe for an orphan.
lickety_split 23rd-Feb-2011 03:50 pm (UTC)
IA. My grandma bought me designer clothes when I was a baby. She spent 60 years earning her money, and she spent it on whatever the hell she felt like, whether that was designer clothing for her grandchildren, a new car, a vacation, etc.
ahkna 21st-Feb-2011 04:16 pm (UTC)
That's not obscene or anything. People pay that much monthly for their 7 year old's iphone bill. Meanwhile I'm saving so I can even get an iphone.
mydogfred 21st-Feb-2011 04:19 pm (UTC)
parents that give their 7 year olds an iphone need to be shot tbh
aviolentwhisper 23rd-Feb-2011 02:20 am (UTC)
My boss' four kids (ages 2, 4, 7 and 9) all had itouches, then when the new iphone came out, he decided to get the oldest two iphones instead. /headdesk
