Mattel Designs a One of a Kind JANET JACKSON Barbie for Charity Auction

Janet Jackson BarbieWhat’s a doll to do when she’s face-to-face with multi-Grammy award winning artist and actress Janet Jackson? Swoon! That’s exactly what happened when I met Miss Janet, and I’m beyond thrilled to have been involved in look-alike doll project.

Inspired by the ultra-glam black gown she wore during her 2010 American Idol performance, I knew we had to recreate that look for her one of a kind doll. Mattel Designer Jackeline Gonzalez duplicated the black gown, including the body-hugging cat-suit underneath that she revealed during her second, upbeat performance. Her gown is kissed with bling created by countless hand-placed Swarovski crystals. Even her mic is crystal-studded.

Look closely dolls, Janet’s sassy, short hairstyle, unique face and body sculpt and face painting all meticulously duplicate the legendary singer’s features.

Divinely Janet includes a certificate of authenticity and a unique display case for your superstar collectible.

The proceeds for this item benefit Project Angel Food

Terms: In condition as donated. Cannot be returned or exchanged. Shipping charges may vary based upon the location of the winner.

1994 BarbieONTD, do you have a favorite Barbie from childhood? I did, it was the Black Butterfly Princess Barbie she looked (and still does) SO pretty and I wanted to wear a big, pink, glittered ballroom gown with butterflies like her too.

Wonderful! :D
We need more non-white dolls to be in the mainstream.
[info]wikkidraven 4th-Dec-2010 05:22 pm (UTC)
she looks good except i'm pretty sure i gave all my barbies that same haircut with safety scissors.
[info]kistbyfaeries 4th-Dec-2010 05:46 pm (UTC)
same
hen they became cancer survivor barbies that my Spice Girl dolls would put on benefits for on the roof of my Barbie House
[info]therealycats 4th-Dec-2010 06:05 pm (UTC)
I think I love you.

All my Barbies ended up being sex fiends.
[info]fwee_prower 4th-Dec-2010 08:16 pm (UTC)
Oh god this thread making laugh on a bus
[info]sursumcorda 4th-Dec-2010 05:22 pm (UTC)
I had Butterfly Princess Barbie too, OP!

I had an Esmerelda Barbie that I took the head off of and then I cut all her hair off because I knew that Demi Moore did the voice of Esmerelda and and she was also GI Jane, so it made sense that Esmerelda should have a buzzcut like her. I think I was 8 lol

My little sister and I buried it in my mom's garden, along with Baby Spice Barbie.
[info]capitalized 4th-Dec-2010 08:31 pm (UTC)
lol cute
[info]oh7 4th-Dec-2010 05:32 pm (UTC)
Excuse you, I tried to fix it.
[info]voltronii 4th-Dec-2010 05:23 pm (UTC)
I loved the trashy Butterfly Tattoo Barbie. She was such a whore! Making out with all of my Ken dolls.

Also, not exactly Barbie, but I loved the Anastasia doll.
[info]sursumcorda 4th-Dec-2010 05:24 pm (UTC)
lol that tattoo Barbie was a slore
[info]karinette001 4th-Dec-2010 05:24 pm (UTC)
bahaha xD
[info]ninjacandy 4th-Dec-2010 05:28 pm (UTC)
I had the Anastasia doll! :)

I didn't get the dress I wanted. My mother got the incredibly regal purple one, I wanted her in the yellow 'Once Upon A December' dress or the blue 'We're going to the ballet!' dress. I pulled her head off by accident. My mother still hasn't gotten over it. She never will.

I also really wanted a Pocahontas doll, could never find that bish.
[info]voltronii 4th-Dec-2010 05:33 pm (UTC)
I got the blue sparkly one, but I don't know its exact name. The box says "Paris Elegance", so I suppose that was it.
The Once Upon a December one is SO pretty.

I was Anastasia in the blue dress for Halloween in Kindergarten :P. Best. Costume. Ever.
[info]kistbyfaeries 4th-Dec-2010 05:48 pm (UTC)
oh i wanted Pocahontas too but I got her friend but if you pushed her bangs back she looked like Pocahontas
[info]sweet_children9 4th-Dec-2010 05:58 pm (UTC)
I had one too, with her "Once Upon a December" dress
[info]onbluebayou 4th-Dec-2010 06:10 pm (UTC)
I had a Pocahontas doll! I use to take her dress off and cram my favourite beanie baby into it.
[info]stephaniejuhnay 4th-Dec-2010 05:35 pm (UTC)
I just watched Anastasia last night! But I never got the doll. :(
[info]fragmentdescent 4th-Dec-2010 05:44 pm (UTC)
I loved the Anastasia doll! I got her and her grandma together in a set. It always bothered me that the grandma had an old wrinkly face but the exact same body as Anastasia.
[info]iamashamed 4th-Dec-2010 09:38 pm (UTC)
omg the anastasia doll!
[info]potatoboat 4th-Dec-2010 05:24 pm (UTC)

[info]skies_of_la 4th-Dec-2010 07:23 pm (UTC)
lol I have the Cher doll in your icon. It's gorgeous.
[info]potatoboat 4th-Dec-2010 07:27 pm (UTC)
do you?! it's so cute!
i want this janet doll so i can be like jack with his cher doll
[info]pink_dog 4th-Dec-2010 07:45 pm (UTC)
I know! That's the part that is the most awesome, tbh. Almost no dolls actually really look right, you know?
[info]timberlaake 4th-Dec-2010 05:24 pm (UTC)
21-year-old me wants this, ngl. So pretty.
[info]yunaresuka 4th-Dec-2010 05:24 pm (UTC)
idk about my favorite barbie, but my favorite barbie accessory was my giant pink barbie Jeep. all my barbies would go offroading down the stairs, it was the best
[info]yunaresuka 4th-Dec-2010 05:25 pm (UTC)
yeah look at how sexy that shit was

[info]oh7 4th-Dec-2010 05:33 pm (UTC)
I had that and the convertible that could go forward and make U-Turns by itself.
[info]therealycats 4th-Dec-2010 06:07 pm (UTC)
I had the white convertible. I think that was really my biggest accessory. One of my friends had the dream house and I was so jealous though.
[info]pistol_eyes 4th-Dec-2010 05:27 pm (UTC)
lol I had the Barbie Corvette.
[info]raptureraptor 4th-Dec-2010 05:35 pm (UTC)
I had the Beetle. It wasn't accurate because you could fit 4 dolls in it without smushing the two in the back.
[info]zoram 4th-Dec-2010 07:01 pm (UTC)
lmao, this comment + your icon.
[info]supernature_971 4th-Dec-2010 05:25 pm (UTC)
This post is fucking up the layout.
[info]oh7 4th-Dec-2010 05:38 pm (UTC)
It's been fixed.
[info]bumblingsara 4th-Dec-2010 05:25 pm (UTC)
They made her look really good.
[info]karinette001 4th-Dec-2010 05:25 pm (UTC)
looks very nice :D
[info]morrbido 4th-Dec-2010 05:26 pm (UTC)
damn that's nice
[info]ninjacandy 4th-Dec-2010 05:26 pm (UTC)
Do they still sell black (or to be less specific non-white) Barbies? I looked through a bunch of major stores in London and found nothing, they were the norm in my childhood - but that was the nineties.
[info]yunaresuka 4th-Dec-2010 05:27 pm (UTC)
I see them around still. a couple years ago I saw a polynesian barbie and (in terms of barbies) it was way more "attractive" than all the others lol
[info]oh7 4th-Dec-2010 05:37 pm (UTC)
My 5 year old cousin isn't really into Barbies but she has all Black Barbies and I remember back in 2001 I bought a little girl an Asian Bratz doll.
[info]pikapika217 4th-Dec-2010 05:59 pm (UTC)
not in the UK but in america at least yeah.
[info]therealycats 4th-Dec-2010 06:08 pm (UTC)
Interesting. Why not?
[info]ninjacandy 5th-Dec-2010 12:57 am (UTC)
Yet they sell the multi-ethnic Bratz dolls across London stores. I can understand there not being a demand for a non-White doll in, for example, Oxfordshire but en Londres!?

There would be, I'm certain.
[info]morrbido 4th-Dec-2010 06:04 pm (UTC)
i bought my sister a Balerina barbie, she has a middle eastern skintone? idk
[info]blissey 4th-Dec-2010 06:06 pm (UTC)
Seen them on occasion. Legit Barbie aisle in general seems to be obsolete in a lot of stores so you typically only see those whorey-looking $5 ones.
[info]fletwock 4th-Dec-2010 07:18 pm (UTC)
I used to work at Toys R Us and we had quite the selection of different skin toned Barbies and dolls in general.
[info]pistol_eyes 4th-Dec-2010 05:26 pm (UTC)
Aww, it's pretty. It looks just like her.
[info]ohnogenocide 4th-Dec-2010 07:56 pm (UTC)
Shocking. A celeb doll that looks like the celeb.
