HBO is getting into politics with a pilot greenlight of "Veep," a half-hour laffer about a female vice president of America.
Armando Iannucci, the Scottish-born co-writer and director of 2009's cross-Atlantic political farce "In the Loop," will co-write and helm the pilot. "Veep" will examine what it means to be a woman VP and the unexpected trappings that go along with the job. Iannucci, Chris Godsick and Frank Rich will exec produce.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus is being discussed for the lead. Actress is coming off a five-season run in the CBS sitcom "The New Adventures of Old Christine" and worked with HBO last year when she had a co-starring role on "Curb Your Enthusiasm."
