Brittany Murphy, Husband's Deaths -- the Mold Factor

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ the issue of mold in the house came up early during the investigation into Brittany's death -- but it was deemed "not to be a contributing factor."

Then when Simon passed away a few months later, we're told the issue came up again -- but Brittany's mom, Sharon, wouldn't let the L.A. County Coroner's Office in to investigate the mold. Now, we're told, Sharon has agreed to let Public Health investigators into the home.

Mold could be relevant to Simon and Brittany's respiratory health. Pneumonia was a cause of death for both of them.

We're also told Simon's mother, Linda Monjack is fully supportive of this move, and will be flying from Europe so she can be close to the investigation.

~sigh~
ONTD, please make sure you're safe from mold
repair leaks
install dehumidifiers
dry the shower or tub
cross-ventilate your house
clean spills immediately
etc.

UPDATE: A rep for Sharon tells TMZ, "I have never been personally asked by the Coroner or anyone from the Health Department to come and inspect my home for mold ... to the best of my knowledge there has been no evidence of mold at the Murphy residence."

ETA new update

When I was still an undergrad, I moved into some really crappy house (because students don't need proper housing... we're not people) and I went down to the bathroom one morning and there were 2 tiny little mushrooms growing in the corner o.0

nastay.
[info]ptr28 26th-Jul-2010 07:21 am (UTC)

In the house I grew up, we once had mushrooms growing in the corner of our finished basement. I was downstairs playing (way cooler down there in the summer) and found them springing out from the carpet in the corner. At the time i thought it was funny but in retrospect, probably not so good lol
[info]scarletfbl 26th-Jul-2010 01:45 pm (UTC)
Mushrooms? That's hilarious as shit, and nasty as fuck. XD
[info]jinxeh13 26th-Jul-2010 07:28 am (UTC)
My friends have been living in their apartment for about a year, now. One day, part of the wall by the shower in their bathroom just...crumbled away, and it's just filled with this weird black and gray mold. They told the landlord about it, and weeks later he STILL hasn't done anything about it; the hole, or the mold.

Douche.
[info]chinavagina 26th-Jul-2010 07:15 am (UTC)
omg that wall
[info]elleinadassyla 26th-Jul-2010 07:18 am (UTC)

[info]juunanagou18 26th-Jul-2010 07:19 am (UTC)
Shit, my family is in trouble then. I found black mold in my mom's closet.
[info]ptr28 26th-Jul-2010 07:21 am (UTC)
gurl, that's srs bsns
[info]juunanagou18 26th-Jul-2010 07:23 am (UTC)
It really is, but I already know it's going to be expensive to fix since all four walls will have to be redone and we don't have the money.
[info]leasheinyoface 26th-Jul-2010 09:44 am (UTC)
i read that as "serious beans"
[info]staygoldpnyboy 26th-Jul-2010 06:21 pm (UTC)
Yea, there's black mold in the basement where I'm renting, too. Leaking out the shower into the closet.
[info]smileinaugust 26th-Jul-2010 07:20 am (UTC)
that wall is what nightmares are made of
[info]elude_me 26th-Jul-2010 11:51 am (UTC)

[info]lem0nlight 26th-Jul-2010 07:20 am (UTC)
Maybe it's black mold. A crazy person told me it will kill you. :|
[info]junglybilly 26th-Jul-2010 07:31 am (UTC)
Ahhh! I saw an episode of House about it and my bro filled in details b/c he's studying medicine, I've been traumatized since!
[info]frances_t 26th-Jul-2010 04:01 pm (UTC)
i'm pretty sure black mold is the most dangerous, right?
[info]prophecypro 26th-Jul-2010 07:23 am (UTC)
God damn people gotta clean their houses up..
[info]phishtickie 26th-Jul-2010 08:51 am (UTC)
Mold has nothing to do with dirt, it's just something that grows if the conditions are humid enough, basically.
[info]prophecypro 26th-Jul-2010 09:05 am (UTC)
Yeah cheers for the obvious.
That doesnt mean you cant wipe the mold off and open some windows, maintain a check and get some dehumidfiers up in there or something does it?
[info]bombfrostings 26th-Jul-2010 07:24 am (UTC)
I've hated mold ever since we found some in my closet as a kid and my mother had to throw away my easy bake oven.. it was devastating.
[info]breeknee 26th-Jul-2010 09:26 am (UTC)
i'm here for you! my brother crushed my easy bake oven! big hugs baby, big hugs.
[info]brawnhilda 26th-Jul-2010 09:35 am (UTC)
Maybe it's better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all. (I never had an easy bake oven. :C)
[info]leasheinyoface 26th-Jul-2010 09:45 am (UTC)
at least you had one :( my mom wouldn't let me get one. she's terrified of me burning down everything, til this day.
[info]sheeperdoodle 26th-Jul-2010 10:13 am (UTC)
I had one but my mom only let me use it once or twice because she had to ~supervise~ me so I wouldn't burn shit down and she NEVER would. :( I was so excited when I got it, biggest disappointment ever
[info]ohyesdaddy 26th-Jul-2010 01:44 pm (UTC)
Ahh my easy bake oven. I remember making little cakes in it and they were actually delicious. My mom made threw it away when my brother melted a GI joe in it. Jerk.
[info]subj_to_debate 28th-Jul-2010 08:02 am (UTC)
happy, but unimportant story about easy bake oven: i'd wait till parents went to sleep to start baking shit at like, midnight. i miss that damn thing. i'd have been devastated, too :(
[info]sleepofplagues 26th-Jul-2010 07:25 am (UTC)
My parents have mold attack their closet floor after their water heater exploded. Thankfully we're getting it fixed. So scary knowing it may have killed them D:
[info]maryam 26th-Jul-2010 07:25 am (UTC)
:( mold in our old house made our bunny papaya (see icon) sick.
[info]sleepofplagues 26th-Jul-2010 07:26 am (UTC)

[info]andi88 26th-Jul-2010 07:29 am (UTC)

[info]neimans 26th-Jul-2010 07:31 am (UTC)
sad bunny :(
[info]maryam 26th-Jul-2010 07:35 am (UTC)
she was a very sad bunny for the 11 months we lived there. we took her to the vet 3 or 4 times, tried different types of hay, and put her on antibiotics twice, and put a noisy HEPA filter in her area. then we moved to a newer house and all her symptoms went away.

stupid old houses with hidden mold.
[info]pooq45 26th-Jul-2010 08:15 am (UTC)
Awww :( We have two rabbits in our back yard and I toss carrots over the balcony to them sometimes.

We named them Harriet and Chadwick :3
[info]ugly_jacket 26th-Jul-2010 04:57 pm (UTC)
what type of symptoms did she had? i'm only asking because i just adopted a little dog and she has "kennel cough" that won't fully go away, but when i take her anywhere that's not my apartment her cough goes away. and i have water leaking around my front entryway that i think is molding back in the dry wall
