Legendary Dame Helen Mirren has blasted British Petroleum over the oil spill.

The actress told talk show host David Letterman that, “in my mind… (BP) stands for bloody p***-poor.”

Appearing on US television, the 64-year-old star also admitted that she was ‘so relieved’ that England drew against Team USA in World Cup soccer, adding that “if Britain had beaten America, what with BP… I don’t think I could have come on this show,” reports News.com.au.

“I would have been so embarrassed and mortified at being British, I think I”d have had to cancel,” she said.

She's made a couple of comments over the last year which sounds like she's somehow embarrassed to be British for some time. Which as a Brit makes me sad, because I really like her. Also the football comment makes even less sense than the BP mess - why is it embarrassing for your country to do well at sport? (and I say this as a Welsh person who was born supporting anyone but England!)
