Kate Winslet denounces foie gras in video

Kate Winslet has spoken out against foie gras in a new campaign video for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
According to The AP, the actress narrates the scene that was shot undercover on foie gras farms and shows birds confined to cramped cages and apparently being force-fed by having tubes placed down their throats.
The Reader star described the process as "terrifying and painful".
"This is a terrifying and painful process for the birds, who have no semblance of a normal life and know that several times a day a tube will be rammed down their throats," she said.
The foodstuff is normally made by force-feeding ducks and geese to enlarge their livers.
The celebrity ended the video with an appeal to boycott the food: "Please join us in helping ducks and geese by pledging never to eat foie gras."

I'd say do some research and don't rely on PETA for your info. Ducks and geese have a thick lining and little feeling in their esophagus. In addition, they breath through their tongue so while the tube is down their throat, they can respire normally. Of course it sounds terrible to us, since we have our windpipe in our throat and a tube down our throat would interfere with our breathing. Most farms these days use soft rubber tubes instead of metal ones. The tube is down for an average of three seconds and the amount of food given is about a cup. Not to mention that some foie gras is made without force-feeding and takes advantage of the natural fattening of the liver cycle that ducks and geese undergo before migration. Having fat deposits in your liver is very unhealthy for a human being, but for a duck or goose, that is the natural way they store reserves.
German isn't funny only difficult :P
no thanks, forever.
bottom line... didn't like it.
bad foie gras is digusto
And I'm a huge foodie. I mean, I'll eat anything (except this...and snake, because I'm terrified of snakes).
...I'm not? The concept of force-feeding is what turns me off. It's not about whether or not the physiology is different.
Fun fact, in Bordeaux, the main fois gras production region, kids say "gavé" as slang, like NorCal people say "hella". So they're basically saying "That's force-feedingly cool."
