From what I hear over at racebending it's all SRS BZNS, Zuko's past is cut out, Katara is a murderer, there's a Gene Simmons dragon.... There will be fail.
Apparently, according to an anon at fandomsecrets (so take with truckload of salt), Zuko has friends in the movie. I know, the horror! :P It seems like a small thing, but I figured his loner status made up who he was, to a large degree.
If you really want to see it through other means, then you can always pay for another movie and then just see The Last Airbender. I think that might be the best way if you are determined to not line TLA's pockets. This way, the movie theaters, which are innocent in this sort of crap, won't be affected. After all, you'll still be paying for a movie.
I'm guessing there's gonna be wank, without considering M. Night might be doing the diverse races through all the nations and people mocking his ethnic last name in the progress. I can't wait.
Btw, Jackson Rathbone said he first auditioned for the role of prince zuko (is that dev's character?) and M. Night said that he REALLY wanted Nicola in his movie "I wouldn't have done the movie without her". I wonder if that's why they didn't let Jackson play Zuko and Sokka had to be white.
yeah Dev is playing Zuko (Dev is why I'll be seeing this movie). Personally I think it might be better to have diverse races through all the nations, instead of each nation being one race.
If he really wanted Nicola in it, then I could kinda see why they didn't let Jackson play Zuko as well...and why hes Sokka instead.
Jackson would have been great in that role, and he really wanted it when he auditioned for Zuko. I still laugh about his interview where he said he was all serious and they asked him to be funny, and then said "oh, you're great for Sokka!" and he was all "Wha...? Huh? I wanted to be Zuko!" (And yes, Zuko is Dev's character.)
Not really, Sokka had to be white because M.Night wanted it that way. He handpicked all four of the original white actors, including Jesse McCartney as Zuko, and I'm certain that if billionaire daughter Nicola wasn't available, he'd have pick another white girl to replace her (unless of course, he meant he couldn't have done the movie without her). Katara isn't the only female in the series, there's also Ty Lee and Suki, who at least has red hair, and he could have cast her as them to avoid having to mess up the look of Sokka and Katara, but he didn't because it obviously wasn't important enough to him.
