Ava Johnson unaware of her mother's death

The young daughter of late socialite Casey Johnson has no idea her mother is dead - because the heiress' grieving family is struggling to find a way to explain their tragic loss. Johnson, heir to the Johnson & Johnson cosmetics company, was found dead at her Los Angeles home on 4 January at the age of 30.

She was laid to rest this week, but Johnson's sister, Jaime, admits adopted three-year-old Ava has yet to be told of her mum's passing. Jaime tells People magazine, "My mom's trying to figure out the best way to explain it. She's teaching Ava about angels right now."

Little Ava is currently being looked after by Johnson's mother Sale, 60, and her husband Ahmad Rashad in New York. An autopsy on Johnson's body showed there were no signs of trauma but the cause of death has been deferred, pending toxicology tests.

I'm not going to pretend that I really paid attention to Casey Johnson before her death. I'd seen her featured on a VH1 'Fabulous Life Of' special, and I knew that she was 'engaged' via publicity stunt to Tila Tequila. But, I do think it's sad for such a young child to lose their parent. Even sadder to think she doesn't know yet. :(

did not even know she had a kid.
pink__sparklies 14th-Jan-2010 03:18 am (UTC)
She adopted the kid in 2007. That was pretty much the extent of her having a kid though. From what I understand her mother has raised it.
jigglemypuff 14th-Jan-2010 03:22 am (UTC)
I can't believe they let her adopt. How did she get approved by an agency?

She's a single young woman with Type 1 Diabetes, a history of drug use and partying, and did she even have a job?

pink__sparklies 14th-Jan-2010 03:16 am (UTC)
From what I understand she adopted the kid and then pretty much ditched her and gave her to her mother anyway so honestly I don't think the kid is going to have any kind of major loss there.

Plus. I have a 3 year old and they don't understand death AT ALL. My kid will say things like "I can't watch Madagascar today..it made me die yesterday!" And thinks that when she kills a bug it's just hurt and needs a bandaid.
vehiclesshockme 14th-Jan-2010 03:17 am (UTC)
My grandma died when I was 4. I understood it very much. :\
jackiemust_die 14th-Jan-2010 03:18 am (UTC)
i used to think that everything could be fixed by a bandaid :(

kids that age mimic the adults in their lives. so if they hear the adults say "my job is killing me" they totally follow suit. its cute

my grandfather died when i was four, and my mother when i was ten. i was only a bit closer to my mom than my grandpa, and tho i felt it more when my mom died, my understanding of death was just as comprehensive as when my grandpa died - ntm, a few of my v young violin students who have had loved ones die and seem to understand the concept just as well as someone twice their age. / cool story bro

idk maybe it just varies a lot, but imo little kids don't get enough credit
underdog_ontop 14th-Jan-2010 04:20 am (UTC)
i don't think they really understand the word much but i'm sure they understand the concept especially if it happens to someone close (in general)

When I was 4 my aunt died and seriously - it fucked me up about death. She was so sick with cancer before she died. I'll never forget the images. :(

Fuck Tila for filing adoption papers...does she really think she can fight the Johnson & Johnson emppire?
baglady25 14th-Jan-2010 03:27 am (UTC)
Did she actually file papers?! Jesus...
phnix_daft_mode 14th-Jan-2010 03:35 am (UTC)

:( it's never an easy thing to explain to kids. when my friend committed suicide, the family had to somehow tell his 3/4 year old sister.
xgirldc 14th-Jan-2010 04:02 am (UTC)
i cannot imagine how difficult that would be :(
