Britney Attempting "Epic Pop"?

Up & coming electro-pop writer/producer/artist Jon Asher has opened up a little about Britney Spears’ upcoming seventh studio album. The 21-year-old was recently contacted by Spears and her management and asked to submit material for the highly-anticipated project, which is due out sometime later this year.

For now, I’ve only submitted songs for the next album. I’m trying to develop an exciting new sound for her. Give Britney more of an “Epic” feel.

And how exactly does Jon define “Epic”?

Epic Pop is a genre that I am pioneering at the moment. Music that has meaning. It’s not your everyday pop love bug sound. Its upbeat rhythms and sounds with meaningful emotional lyrics that people can feel. Something that truly moves you.

Jon also happens to be a huge Britney fan, so which of the singers albums are his favorite?

I’m caught between Blackout and In the Zone. “Unusual You” from the Circus album and “Break the Ice” from her Blackout album [are my favorite Britney songs]

It must be amazing to be 21 and already being considered so highly
[info]childish 4th-Jan-2010 06:28 pm (UTC)
But I fail to hear how this 'epic pop' is any different from any other electropop.

meet the robinson's<3 so underrated
[info]kindafunnysad 4th-Jan-2010 06:34 pm (UTC)
it's jerry bruckheimer pop and it's also called linkin park.
[info]clinkclink 4th-Jan-2010 06:39 pm (UTC)
It's not really. Technically, it's just a load of minor chord progressions and fierce cadences. Which are epitomised by Blackout, Unusual You and Break the Ice. DUH.
[info]wackypinkbunny 4th-Jan-2010 06:55 pm (UTC)
I agree.
[info]patbjorke 4th-Jan-2010 06:27 pm (UTC)
Its upbeat rhythms and sounds with meaningful emotional lyrics that people can feel.

It's my favorite off that album. I have never understood why she didn't release it as a single or perform it on tour. I was so bummed.
[info]gheyman 4th-Jan-2010 06:27 pm (UTC)
Epic pop is only epic if coupled with epic dancing.

I still don't know what the fuck "epic pop" is after that description, but I think Britney already got there with Toxic. I don't know anyone that doesn't love that song. And I've asked.
[info]srnf87 5th-Jan-2010 04:17 am (UTC)
Seriously. Toxic and Since U Been Gone are two songs that I've never, NEVER, heard of anyone disliking.
[info]soba_kasu 5th-Jan-2010 08:22 am (UTC)

[info]allisonlynn0122 4th-Jan-2010 06:29 pm (UTC)
i love my B and all, but Lady GaGa is who I wish she would have re-invented herself as...

i'm a fan of both of them, but GaGa is tops right now, career and music-wise.
[info]jewcifer 4th-Jan-2010 06:33 pm (UTC)
"Outbreaks"
[info]magwildwood 4th-Jan-2010 06:32 pm (UTC)
there is no way britney could have reinvented herself as gaga. gaga's brand of pop is a reaction to the one that britney was a part of
[info]x_noisekisses 4th-Jan-2010 06:33 pm (UTC)
Lord thank God she didn't. I think Britney appeals to a lot of us because she is Britney. I can't imagine liking her if she turned into a pretentious twat with weird costumes.
[info]reesespears 4th-Jan-2010 06:45 pm (UTC)
Definitely would not have worked.
[info]nastyposition 4th-Jan-2010 07:25 pm (UTC)
um. no! i love lady gaga and her music but brit shouldn't be re-inventing anyone. brit should just be reinvented to a better version of her. not gaga!
[info]mister_ob 4th-Jan-2010 09:20 pm (UTC)
no.
[info]loveology101 4th-Jan-2010 10:19 pm (UTC)
Christina already has that covered bb
[info]hardcoresince3 4th-Jan-2010 11:12 pm (UTC)
ew no thank you
lady gaga's songs are mediocre at best. circus played it safe, but I just want more music like in the zone and blackout.
