[info]mental_picture 16th-Dec-2009 03:51 am (UTC)
ikr?

Sometimes it's when you work with so many constraints that you really get creative.
[info]vampireheart88 16th-Dec-2009 03:51 am (UTC)
It goes to show that movies don't have to be an insane budget to be amazing.
[info]analytique 16th-Dec-2009 03:57 am (UTC)
my mind is blown
[info]pomoluese 16th-Dec-2009 03:57 am (UTC)
Damn why do these movies need so much money then?
[info]telegram_ 16th-Dec-2009 04:01 am (UTC)
but of course. but then, the sfx in that movie were TOP. NOTCH. really makes you wonder why $200 million is necessary.
[info]mistyraven 16th-Dec-2009 07:22 am (UTC)
Well, technically it could, if you hired good writers...

:P
[info]cmariewt 16th-Dec-2009 04:07 am (UTC)
Seriously.
[info]juteux 16th-Dec-2009 04:08 am (UTC)

[info]fuskeez 16th-Dec-2009 04:21 am (UTC)
I couldn't believe how good the special effects were for that amount. Damn fine filmmaking, right there.

[info]thewadingegret 16th-Dec-2009 03:52 am (UTC)
Yeah Avatar better blow me the fuck away with that money. I'm expecting interactive moments and real life effects.
[info]joshtin4lyfe 16th-Dec-2009 04:00 am (UTC)
yeah that makes me not want to see it. I don't want to support people wasting that much money on a MOVIE

[info]settingstarlet 16th-Dec-2009 04:22 am (UTC)
No trailer I've seen has drawn me into the story at all... there's no way it will come close to it's budget. What the hell is James Cameron spending all that money on???
[info]dreamerbri 16th-Dec-2009 04:53 am (UTC)
mte
[info]lily_phoenix731 16th-Dec-2009 05:20 am (UTC)
It still looks like average CGI from what I've seen in the trailer.
[info]enjoydivision 16th-Dec-2009 05:27 am (UTC)
*sigh* well it's James Cameron >_>
[info]krm 16th-Dec-2009 05:56 am (UTC)
James Cameron doesn't work for cheap.
[info]williammiller 16th-Dec-2009 03:44 am (UTC)

But also, the villain LOVES leeches.

First movie I ever saw at a discount theater. My dad was a smart man.
[info]jameshook 16th-Dec-2009 03:44 am (UTC)
I only like Titanic and the first Pirates from this list.
[info]jameshook 16th-Dec-2009 03:58 am (UTC)
I'm dumb. The first Pirates isn't on here.
[info]sergeantquakers 16th-Dec-2009 04:01 am (UTC)
Fun fact: The first Pirates movie was pretty low budget; they thought it would flop.

Which probably explains why it's by far the best one.
[info]breebree16 16th-Dec-2009 07:48 pm (UTC)
There aren't nearly as many special effects in the first one than the other two; special effects are ridiculously expensive.
[info]iichristinll 16th-Dec-2009 03:44 am (UTC)
Speculated upwards of $500 million

What the actual fuck.
[info]rhapsodeeinblue 16th-Dec-2009 03:52 am (UTC)
IKR. That's insane.
[info]_soundoff 16th-Dec-2009 03:44 am (UTC)

[info]syzygy09 16th-Dec-2009 03:50 am (UTC)
I visited the US Bureau of Engraving and Printing in DC once...I'm pretty sure I saw that much there.
[info]surrenderface 16th-Dec-2009 04:01 am (UTC)
i went to the museum in the federal reserve in atlanta and there was a sheet of $100,000 bills. i nearly cried.
[info]runneontiger 16th-Dec-2009 03:50 am (UTC)
IKR? All the money I make in my lifetime + selling off my children + my grandchildren + their children wouldn't amount to that kind of madmoney. JFC.
[info]fearthainn 16th-Dec-2009 05:23 am (UTC)
I cashed a cheque for $400 million once. Sadly, to my company's bank account, not to mine. :(
[info]ash_of_evenstar 16th-Dec-2009 05:45 am (UTC)
I was just thinking how awesome it would be to have $500 million dollars
[info]zizy lol Wild Wild West16th-Dec-2009 03:44 am (UTC)
A perfect example of a movie that's so bad it's good.
[info]brandon198403 Re: lol Wild Wild West16th-Dec-2009 03:46 am (UTC)
That's the way I feel about John Tucker Must Die lmao
[info]dedebee Re: lol Wild Wild West16th-Dec-2009 03:52 am (UTC)
WHAT??? JOHN TUCKER MUST DIE IS LEGITIMATELY GOOD!!!!!
[info]shegoestoca Re: lol Wild Wild West16th-Dec-2009 04:54 am (UTC)

[info]bunny_lita Re: lol Wild Wild West16th-Dec-2009 03:52 am (UTC)
The longer you watch it, the weirder it gets. It's so off the fucking wall the entire movie is basically, "What is this? I don't even."
[info]joshtin4lyfe Re: lol Wild Wild West16th-Dec-2009 04:01 am (UTC)
WE'RE GOIN STRAIGHT. TOOOOOO

[info]carnivalpapers 16th-Dec-2009 04:02 am (UTC)

[info]rissaroo 16th-Dec-2009 04:06 am (UTC)

[info]rng 16th-Dec-2009 04:10 am (UTC)

ikr?
[info]omgggwth 16th-Dec-2009 04:41 am (UTC)
TBH the real problem I had with AWE was that it was trying to wrap up way too many stories in once. If they had trimmed it back and just focused on two story lines instead of everyone running all over the place it would have been a million times better.
[info]mistyraven 16th-Dec-2009 07:29 am (UTC)
Lol, aw, but I loved that movie (although the second one was the best, imo...)

*accepts her unpopular opinion*

[info]tin_o_biscuits 16th-Dec-2009 03:48 am (UTC)
There's an alien planet (moon, actually) that has an atmosphere toxic to humans, so they make "Avatars," which are test-tube aliens made of human and alien DNA so they can explore the planet and mine for the rare mineral that fuels most of the stuff on earth.
[info]awesam 16th-Dec-2009 04:36 pm (UTC)
it's basically "dances with wolves" but with aliens instead of native americans.
[info]hologramxx 16th-Dec-2009 03:44 am (UTC)
Wow, they mostly suck. I still wanna see Avatar, though.

[info]pimpin_ride 16th-Dec-2009 03:45 am (UTC)
it's sad to see big budgeted movies fail.

[info]tin_o_biscuits 16th-Dec-2009 03:49 am (UTC)
Well, that's the tricky thing- big budgets are harder to make back in ticket sales, much less make a good profit.
[info]riot_cabaret 16th-Dec-2009 04:16 am (UTC)
Really? It makes me happy.
[info]la_sikka 16th-Dec-2009 06:06 am (UTC)
me too. i am all, that'll teach you for making shitty movies!
