Ashlee Simpson and husband Pete Wentz were all smiles as they left CVS Pharmacy with a new truck for their son Bronx, whose first birthday is coming up on November 20.

Mom Ashlee, with her newly dyed black hair, seemed to be in great spirits despite the drama surrounding her recent departure from Melrose Place.

Proud dad Pete recently told PEOPLE that becoming a parent has really helped him to appreciate his own father:

"It makes me realize all of the little things that my dad sacrificed when he had me. It’s sad it took 30 years but I totally realize it now."

Yes, Bronx is out AGAIN with socks and/or shoes. He's not your kid, don't worry about it. It'd be an issue if they lived somewhere other than Southern California

Us on the West Coast are getting screwed, our CVS stores suck. I have been to the ones in other states (MA, TX) and they are normal drug stores. The one we just got is lame with really short, empty shelves and $20 barbie dolls. I actually like Rite Aid more, now that is saying something.

My sister had a twisted tibia and had to wear special shoes to correct it and the soles were super hard plastic (w/ orthodics or something Idk) and she kicked my mom's nose so hard she just about broke it. It was swolen for 2 weeks.

Idk why I'm sharing this it's turning into a /cool story
