AJ Langer's Son Becomes Heir to Royal Title

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
He's only a week old but actress AJ Langer's son, Jack Haydon Langer Courtenay, already has some big shoes to fill.

Jack, born Aug. 16 in Los Angeles, becomes second in line to the English title "Lord Devon" – dad Charlie Courtenay is the son and heir of Earl of Devon – which dates back to the 16th century during the reign of Mary Tudor, Henry VIII's oldest daughter.

Langer, 35, best known for her role as Rayanne on the TV series My So-Called Life, married Courtenay, an L.A. lawyer and the future Earl of Devon, in 2004. "We met in a bar in Vegas," Langer has said. "He didn't know I was an actress. I didn't know he had a castle."

The couple, who also have a 2-year-old daughter, Joscelyn Skye, plan to move to the Powderham Castle in Devon, England, where the proud grandparents raised a blue pennant on the flag pole in Jack's honor.

sucks that the daughter doesn't get a title as well
[info]jennyherself 28th-Aug-2009 02:06 pm (UTC)
~male privilege~ is a bitch
[info]suzycat 28th-Aug-2009 02:19 pm (UTC)
I think they both get to be Honourables. She *might* be Lady. She will be after her dad inherits the title anyway. It doesn't actually mean shit other than "I am a close relative of some Srs Important Peepz".

IKR....
[info]angel_crazy 28th-Aug-2009 07:11 pm (UTC)
I think she should get the title of Countess.
[info]numbereleven 28th-Aug-2009 01:42 pm (UTC)
Haha, this is so random, and I love it. Life is funny.

In other news, I basically idolized Rayanne Graff as a child, and I had a bleached hair streak like that from middle school on for YEARS. I was also her for Halloween once, but everyone thought I was Boy George.

So when I finally got MSCL on DVD, I was like, "Good god, my mother watched this with me, and knew I idolized this tragic girl... why didn't she give me an intervention?" I can happily say in hindsight that I identified with Angela 100% more during high school.

i was angela. had the red hair. and a jordan. and a rickie!
[info]highd 28th-Aug-2009 02:12 pm (UTC)
I dyed my hair for the first time after seeing Angela dye hers. My mom wasn't trilled but being 13 it was quite the talk of my small school (my graduation class had one 64 people!) I had a mad crush on Rickie, and I was confused over how Jordan made me feel. about a year later, I came to terms with that confusion... he made me horny :)
[info]lulubelle007 28th-Aug-2009 02:21 pm (UTC)
did your jordan lean great?
[info]artvandellay 28th-Aug-2009 03:03 pm (UTC)
Did you have a Brian? He was my favorite.

"Good god, my mother watched this with me, and knew I idolized this tragic girl... why didn't she give me an intervention?"

haha
[info]sabrina_bobina 28th-Aug-2009 02:41 pm (UTC)
LOL at people thinking you were Boy George.

I watched that show religiously in 6th grade.
[info]antigravitylove 28th-Aug-2009 03:31 pm (UTC)
that's kind of funny, because i went as boy george once for halloween, and everyone thought i was rayanne graff.
[info]pivotandsway 28th-Aug-2009 04:04 pm (UTC)
lol. it's funny, I've watched MSCL at three different periods of my life and I moved from identifying with the little sister to Angela to the mom. That show was too true to life. That's why it had to die lol
[info]h0tfuss 29th-Aug-2009 04:24 am (UTC)
I thought Rayanne looked like Boy George when I watched the show. Sharon was my favorite character. Everyone else was too tokenized and had too many hang ups.
[info]starcrossedkiss 28th-Aug-2009 01:43 pm (UTC)
wherrrrrrrre can I find "my so called life" online?!?!!?!?! I used to want to be rayanne soooo bad
[info]aoinyx 28th-Aug-2009 01:44 pm (UTC)
It is up on hulu if you are in the US.
[info]starcrossedkiss 28th-Aug-2009 03:21 pm (UTC)

Not sure if Hulu has commercials or not.
[info]poison20 28th-Aug-2009 01:43 pm (UTC)
so technically does AJ have a title?
[info]04nbod 28th-Aug-2009 01:47 pm (UTC)
not until his dad croaks
[info]1islandinthesea 28th-Aug-2009 05:43 pm (UTC)
Are you sure, hon? Sometimes an earl will have other, lessor titles--viscount--for example that the son will use. Eh, since they didn't mention it in the article, maybe the son doesn't have one.

Oh, and this AJ bitch has stolen my life! shaking and crying
[info]romancenoir 29th-Aug-2009 07:23 am (UTC)
Actually, she has a courtesy title--Lady Courtenay. If she ever divorced her husband before he ascends to the Earldom, she'd be known as Allison, Lady Courtnay.
[info]dlishxo 28th-Aug-2009 01:47 pm (UTC)
bitch was so fierce in My So-Called Life.

I wanted to be her bad self.
[info]sweetest_asylum 28th-Aug-2009 01:49 pm (UTC)
i know! i looked like angela, but partied like rayanne. go figure.
[info]numbereleven 28th-Aug-2009 01:59 pm (UTC)
lol it sounds like we were opposite.
[info]velvetunicorn 28th-Aug-2009 01:47 pm (UTC)
the daughter should be the heiress.

don't even get me started on how unfair that is.
[info]romancenoir 29th-Aug-2009 07:25 am (UTC)
Only if the original letters of patent allowed descent through the female line. And even then, since she has a brother, he would still get the title. However, if AJ was titled in her own right and her title went to daughters (and not sons), her daughter would be titled. Some reeally old English baronies have this codicil, but titles like this are usually Scottish.
[info]mrssubee 28th-Aug-2009 01:47 pm (UTC)
that's funny- I was wondering what happened to her
[info]sweetest_asylum 28th-Aug-2009 01:49 pm (UTC)
she was in children under the stairs i think. or some movie like that before mscl
[info]sharemygrief 28th-Aug-2009 01:51 pm (UTC)
yeah, 'people under the stairs':-]
[info]sweetest_asylum 28th-Aug-2009 01:54 pm (UTC)
i was close ;)
[info]numbereleven 28th-Aug-2009 01:59 pm (UTC)
I remember really thinking that movie was fucked up and awesome, but it's probably really funny now. Didn't her cohort have his tongue cut out?
[info]sweetest_asylum 28th-Aug-2009 03:17 pm (UTC)
but you know. they were children and the were under the stairs lol
[info]la_raisondetre 28th-Aug-2009 01:54 pm (UTC)
that is really random and awesome
[info]established6661 28th-Aug-2009 01:54 pm (UTC)
"He didn't know I was an actress. I didn't know he had a castle."

idky but that sounds adorable.
[info]pikapika217 28th-Aug-2009 02:26 pm (UTC)
LOL, MTE
[info]trop_fort 28th-Aug-2009 05:02 pm (UTC)
I think the same thing happened with the Dutch prince. He met his wife in a bar or something, she thought he as a banker.
[info]numbereleven 28th-Aug-2009 01:58 pm (UTC)
hah... i forgot how short she was.
[info]m_h_p 28th-Aug-2009 01:59 pm (UTC)
Err, so does the daughter get anything? Other than a dowry or some shit like that.
[info]romancenoir 29th-Aug-2009 07:26 am (UTC)
Just the privilege of being called the Honorable Joscelyn Courtnay, and when her father inherits the title, Lady Joscelyn Courtnay. But please...she'll get the perks of being an aristocrat, period.
[info]dont_go_joe 28th-Aug-2009 01:59 pm (UTC)
I am so jealous. Ugh.
