In another edition of Celebrities are stupid- Hayden Panettiere's tattoo is misspelled

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Hayden Panettiere has been showing off a tattoo along the left side of her back lately. But the tattoo, which reads “vivere senza rimipianti” ("to live without regrets"), is misspelled—her “rimpianti” has an extra “i” in it.

So, we’re guessing Hayden has at least one regret. She isn’t the only celebrity who has a tattoo that is misspelled or means something other than what was intended. Thankfully, my Arabic tattoo says exactly what I wanted it to. More tattoo mishaps after the jump.

[info]nandayarou 20th-May-2009 11:49 pm (UTC)
Oh how many times that exact same thing comes to my mind when I'm reading fanfics...
[info]tin_o_biscuits 20th-May-2009 11:50 pm (UTC)

[info]saintsormartyrs 21st-May-2009 12:21 am (UTC)
I HATE when they just write something like "he took a bite of fettachini (sp?) and then..."
It makes me irate.
[info]diapergenie 21st-May-2009 01:04 am (UTC)
I think the same thing when I come across misspellings in books.
[info]autumnleaving 21st-May-2009 07:34 pm (UTC)
Omg, you'reyour so meanmeen!

I feel you, bb. I correct everything mentally more than necessary. Better yet, after my 2nd correction, I just quit reading altogether.
[info]subj_to_debate 21st-May-2009 04:14 am (UTC)
well, i'll be the first to admit that i don't have a sanskrit or...italian/latin(?) spellchecker. but the others are quite unfortunate.
[info]wootles 21st-May-2009 12:19 pm (UTC)
seriously. it's italian. not some dead, obscure language from like 8000000000000000 b.c.
[info]prophecypro 20th-May-2009 11:47 pm (UTC)
Meh, coulda been worse.
[info]wootles 21st-May-2009 12:21 pm (UTC)
not if you speak italian. it's like saying in english:

to live without ragrets.
to live wethout regrets.
to lave without regrets.

etc, etc. infinity.
[info]prophecypro 21st-May-2009 12:34 pm (UTC)
It coulda been worse.
[info]pradagrrl 21st-May-2009 12:40 pm (UTC)

[info]whatahussy 20th-May-2009 11:47 pm (UTC)
If you're gonna drop $$$ on that shit, how can you not at least make sure you get it right?
[info]m00nbrain 21st-May-2009 12:24 am (UTC)
or atleast find a place that would know/look that shit up for you...it can't be that hard right?
[info]icevein 21st-May-2009 01:53 am (UTC)
I think it's less the dropping $$ part and more the IT'S PERMANENT part that should give people the desire to double check.
[info]whirlofagirl 21st-May-2009 01:47 pm (UTC)
forget the $$, it's on your body forever!! cool now, but just wait 30 years!!
[info]gastoncyrus 20th-May-2009 11:48 pm (UTC)
Why not just get them in english if you want them to remind you of some spiritual shit and you only read english doesnt it make sense? The message is still on you forever and at least you can read it.
[info]synflood 20th-May-2009 11:53 pm (UTC)
because it makes you feel much ~deeper~ if it's vague and cryptic and possibly in another language
[info]sunshine1676 21st-May-2009 02:08 am (UTC)

[info]will_2001 20th-May-2009 11:56 pm (UTC)
I could hear Samuel L. Jackson saying that in his Jules Winfield voice. "Spellcheck, motherfucker, do you use it?"
[info]whatahussy 20th-May-2009 11:48 pm (UTC)
Also, I'm not at all a fan of text tattoos, which seem to be really trendy lately.
[info]ultravlntmoloko 20th-May-2009 11:50 pm (UTC)
i don't know about trendy
but the dumb whores who walk around with them hanging out (megan, lindsay, her, etc) def. make them more noticeable
[info]movie_at_six 20th-May-2009 11:54 pm (UTC)
megan is not a dumb whore
[info]brelicious 21st-May-2009 12:46 am (UTC)
idk if I consider them "trendy"
I really prefer text tattoos to images, but that's only because I'm really into typography so it could be just me -shrugs-
[info]autumnleaving 21st-May-2009 07:36 pm (UTC)
I'd be uncomfortable having to stop and explain to them what my tattoo says if I had a text tattoo.

Anyone else w/ one often get stopped and asked about it?
[info]yorkcharlotte 20th-May-2009 11:48 pm (UTC)
morons...
but theyre all rich enough to get them lasered off.
[info]maya4tw 21st-May-2009 12:08 am (UTC)
they hurt like a bitch, 10x more than the tattoo itself.
[info]pinklala 21st-May-2009 12:16 am (UTC)
you've done it? iv'e been thinking about it lately.
[info]subj_to_debate 21st-May-2009 04:16 am (UTC)
desPRATE tiemZ call fo DESpeRAT meshures! (keeping with the spelling errors, ya dig?)
[info]missinfinity 20th-May-2009 11:48 pm (UTC)

[info]baroness 20th-May-2009 11:48 pm (UTC)
lol

sucks for her
[info]superhetoric 20th-May-2009 11:48 pm (UTC)
i was thinking about getting some words tattooed in latin, but ultimately decided against it for that exact reason. i asked two classics majors what the correct spelling would be, they each said something different, and that made it seem like a horrible idea.
[info]bourbonandgod 20th-May-2009 11:53 pm (UTC)
which words did you want tattooed?
[info]cluelessraf 21st-May-2009 12:01 am (UTC)
That's the thing, you can never get an actual answer.
[info]acharmedlife 21st-May-2009 12:03 am (UTC)
Spelling is the easy part - it is the translation that is difficult, because you have to try to capture the essence of the word/phrase. Things do not usually translate directly.
[info]superhetoric 21st-May-2009 12:16 am (UTC)
i'm aware, the reason i said "misspelled" was because i was lifting it directly from the latin. i just wanted to make sure my original source was correct.
[info]lexy_ 21st-May-2009 12:13 am (UTC)
Yay Classics majors! But it's not really the spelling, it's most likely the translation/grammar. What did you want?
[info]quirkly 21st-May-2009 12:20 am (UTC)
Oooh, do tell what you wanted. I've got a sweet Latin minor that has gotten me nowhere.

If they both gave you different answers though (word wise, not... definition wise) that's not uncommon. There are so many possibilities in translating Latin that people rarely end up with the same exact translation.
[info]kai_ta_loipa 21st-May-2009 02:34 am (UTC)
lots of spelling variations between archaic latin vs. classical latin vs. medieval latin.
[info]alchimie_amour 21st-May-2009 07:13 am (UTC)
Just consult a professor or two. I'm a classics major but if I ever wanted a tat, I'd rather run it by a prof lol.

[info]synflood 20th-May-2009 11:55 pm (UTC)

[info]roxi9 21st-May-2009 12:00 am (UTC)
[info]baby_worlds 20th-May-2009 11:48 pm (UTC)
It's a nice idea but I hate big tattoos, I think they look stupid on a good portion of the population.
[info]shutterdragon 20th-May-2009 11:49 pm (UTC)
that's why i'll never get my tattoo in another language. how dumb of them not to double check beforehand.
