Canadian Idol Cancelled!



According to the National Post, CTV has issued a statement saying “as a result of the current economic climate, production of Canadian Idol will rest for the 2009 year.”

This confirms the rumour, which was originally posted on the satirical Idol Website, Vote For The Worst earlier this morning. But the Toronto Star says "CTV still retains its Idol licence, and says it has every expectation of bringing the crooner competition back again the following season."

I doubt that's true. I care. And I know there are a few people on my friends list who look forward to the show every year apart from me (my FL is 95 percent non-Canadian). I'll grant you that you don't.

The only Canadian Idol I've ever heard of is Eva Avila. Have any of the others even made it to the radio?

The most successful people were on Season 2. Kalan Porter who won that season, and Jacob Hoggard who dropped out at 3rd place. Jacob Hoggard's band Hedley has had several top 10 hits... And Eva Avila is now on the chopping block at Sony BMG.

Hedley is surprisingly good considering it's an Idol offshoot. Unlike most Canadian bands I don't change the station when one of their songs is on.

Carly from the season before last has a song on the radio. idk what it's called.

Tara Oram has/had a show on one of the Canadian country-western networks. I assume she's getting play on those kinds of radio stations as well.
