Dita Von Teese on her Halloween Costume

DITA Von Teese plans to dress up as a "normal girl" for Halloween.

The burlesque beauty, who is famous for her pale skin, red lipstick, raven black hair and love of vintage clothing, jokes no-one will recognise her if she makes herself look ordinary.

She said: "For Halloween, I'm going to look like a normal girl, put some bronzer on, some spray tan on and wear some jeans. People will ask me where my costume is!"

"I would never do this in normal life, that's why I'll do it at Halloween. It's a bit funny and people think I'm not wearing a costume but I really am."

Dita recently revealed she has vowed never to wear jeans, because she prefers "expressing" herself through 40s-style corsets and dresses.

She said: "I've always felt that clothes are an important way of expressing how you want the world to see you.

"I don't look down on people who wear jeans and T-shirts, but ever since I was a little girl, I picked out my own clothes."

MTE. Sometimes I hate it when people WHINE about their "self-expression" through their clothing (mostly on shows like What Not To Wear) and i'm like...it doesn't matter WHAT you have on, you're still YOU.
boomstick 28th-Oct-2008 03:33 pm (UTC)
True, but the first thing people see is how you present yourself, so it's a good idea to present yourself in a way that is flattering to your personality.
slutdrunkmystag 28th-Oct-2008 03:35 pm (UTC)
There's nothing wrong with using clothes to express your personality, so long as you don't define yourself solely through the kind of clothes you wear.
hardcoresince3 28th-Oct-2008 03:33 pm (UTC)
oh clinton and stacy would hate you
a_mole 28th-Oct-2008 03:45 pm (UTC)
well that is for getting to know people!

expressing yourself just when you move in the streets etc.. you only have your clothes more or less

curlietoes 28th-Oct-2008 03:28 pm (UTC)
ever since i was a little girl i, too, have picked out my own clothes.

it just happens to be a tshirt and jeans.
sugary_placenta 28th-Oct-2008 03:58 pm (UTC)

november_7th 28th-Oct-2008 03:28 pm (UTC)
I love wearing jeans and just a t-shirt..

always being dressed up is hard!
britaloonie 28th-Oct-2008 03:28 pm (UTC)
So people who wear jeans and t shirts don't choose their own clothes?
Damn it, I've got to tell my parents to stop dressing me.
britaloonie 28th-Oct-2008 05:15 pm (UTC)
No, I love her style. She's got panache. But that was a dumb comment. Came across kind of snipe-ish.
simpleyetcolin 28th-Oct-2008 03:28 pm (UTC)
spray-on tan is always part of my normal outfits.

jeans can be really uncomfortable, i have one pair i ever wear.
gryffinclaw 28th-Oct-2008 03:30 pm (UTC)
I LOVE jeans! I am always boggled by people who hate them or find them uncomfortable.
everyleaf 28th-Oct-2008 03:32 pm (UTC)
same here. jeans are fantastic.
surrenderface 28th-Oct-2008 03:34 pm (UTC)
I used to hate them, and now I hate wearing most anything else other than them!
simpleyetcolin 28th-Oct-2008 03:42 pm (UTC)
i used to only wear jeans, but now i almost always wear trousers. trousers are so soft and they don't suffocate my legs.
sydnay 28th-Oct-2008 04:08 pm (UTC)
SERIOUSLY!! i just want to smack them and tell them they're obvs wearing the wrong jeans.
candy_phobia 28th-Oct-2008 04:30 pm (UTC)
I'd lvoe to wear jeans more often but I can't find a flattering pair ANYWHERE. I'm shaped wrong. :(
amoebapudding 28th-Oct-2008 03:33 pm (UTC)
I, too, think jeans are uncomfortable. I never wear them.
mispelled_ 28th-Oct-2008 04:00 pm (UTC)
i agree! i'd much rather wear a dress everyday, then jeans.. the trick is finding really comfortable dresses.
cluelessraf 28th-Oct-2008 04:47 pm (UTC)
Jeans are only uncomfortable when they're new but when you break them in, they're just fantastic! I live for the day when I could wear jeans for work.
midnight_lite 28th-Oct-2008 04:55 pm (UTC)
I LOVE jeans. I find them so comfortable that I even sleep in them sometimes.
luna_incognita 28th-Oct-2008 06:20 pm (UTC)

boomstick 28th-Oct-2008 03:32 pm (UTC)
My friend Rob did something like this. He's about 6'6", very very thin, long black hair, piercings (including two in his tongue), tattoos everywhere, and always in baggy black pants and metal band shirts.

One Halloween he went to work (he was a counselor at a rehab place) dressed "normally". His hair was in a ponytail, and he had glasses, a button-down shirt, nice slacks, a Starbuck's drink...he even took his piercings out and shaved. It was great, because he went back to normal the next day and all of the guys who came in on Halloween informed him that the day to dress up was yesterday.
curlietoes 28th-Oct-2008 03:40 pm (UTC)
hahahah that sounds awesome
ieatpianos 28th-Oct-2008 04:00 pm (UTC)

ifancylust 28th-Oct-2008 07:00 pm (UTC)

apatheticalli 28th-Oct-2008 07:40 pm (UTC)
I literally have people BEGGING to do this, every Halloween.

Wear pink, lose the piercings, hide my dreads, etc etc.
xxcrazyjewxx 28th-Oct-2008 03:33 pm (UTC)
Meatwad. :)

rara8777 28th-Oct-2008 04:54 pm (UTC)
You win.

How are you doing the costume, if I may ask?
foood_library 28th-Oct-2008 06:50 pm (UTC)
I'm considering going as Carl...but it's really just an excuse to wear sweats, a tank, and flip flops out.
meaculpa_g 28th-Oct-2008 03:33 pm (UTC)
bronzer + jeans = "normal" girl?

hardcoresince3 28th-Oct-2008 03:40 pm (UTC)
well for dita, yes
she's really pale and people always comment on her being too pale, so why wouldn't she tan for this outfit?
meaculpa_g 28th-Oct-2008 03:50 pm (UTC)
Yes, I understand that. But her wording is difficult for me to grasp. I'm just as white as she is. I like to think that I wear, idk, interesting(?) clothes. But I don't think of myself as being abnormal because of it. Come to think of it, I don't think of myself as normal either. Normal is relative though, I suppose, thus sayeth the bumper sticker.
