The risk of a miscarriage is very high during the first trimester, higher than most people realize. (Almost a third of all pregnancies, though some happen early enough that the woman doesn't even know she's pregnant yet.) Expecting celebrities to announce their pregnancies immediately is unrealistic and unfair, given the potential for miscarriage. Even an attention whore doesn't want the kind of attention that would come from having a highly public miscarriage.

I think it's about an even shot. There have been three different women in my family who announced pregnancies and then lost them in the first trimester, so I know if I'm ever pregnant I'm gonna be like, seven months along before I get the nerve to tell anyone.
