Which is ridiculous because if I wanted to, I could afford to walk all up and down a Prada store floor and buy quite a few purses and shoes without falling into debt or using my credit. But hey, if a lot of these designers don't want me as a black woman ~scandalizing~ their goods by buying and wearing it, fuck them.
I think the fashion industry views skin color and ethnicity/nationality as a trend among models. Sometimes it's Brazilians, Eastern Europeans, Asians, or Africans. Sometimes it's pale skin, sometimes it's dark skin.
Designers have preferences of what type of look will complement their clothing the most. Lately most have been using pale, emaciated girls, but there are always ones who embrace black models for their collections. I think it's wise to do that, since darker skin tones can enhance some colors that wash lighter skin out.
my excitement is automatically brought down to scale by how ridiculous it is that there has been one other black model in almost 20 yrs for a particular designer. and its not like the majority of the fashion industry has made big strides either.
