ANAHEIM, California — Seconds after Ashlee Simpson took the stage for the first night of her first tour on Wednesday night, one of her guitarists' straps ripped mid-twirl and his six-string shot across the stage.
The girl just can't get a break.

However, as she's done with her much larger performance snafus of the past, Ashlee soldiered on through her opening number, "Autobiography" (minus a guitarist), and never looked back.

In black slacks and a white tuxedo jacket (one of six outfits she would wear throughout her hour-long show), Simpson paced the stage, singing with a vengeance while the sold-out Grove of Anaheim audience bopped along.

LOS ANGELES -- A federal appeals court has declined to reconsider a ruling that former Playboy model Anna Nicole Smith is not entitled to $88.5 million from the estate of her late husband.

Smith's attorney, Howard K. Stern, said he would appeal to the Supreme Court.

The 1993 Playmate of the Year was 26 when she and oilman J. Howard Marshall II married in 1994. He was 89. They met three years earlier when she was working as a stripper.

Marshall died in 1995, and Smith and Marshall's son, E. Pierce Marshall, have battled over his estate ever since.

Last December, a three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled a Texas probate court's decision should stand: the son was the oilman's sole heir — and doesn't owe Smith anything.

Jessica Simpson's overlord, er, father is attempting to explain why (oh why) he felt the need to comment on her tremendous talent for filling out a top.

"If you put her in a T-shirt or you put her in a bustier, she's sexy in both," Joe Simpson told GQ recently. "She's got double Ds. You can't cover those suckers up."

But he's now insisting his squicky remarks were taken out of context. "That interview was an all-day interview," the preacher-turned-manager tells Extra. Fashion design duo DOMENICO DOLCE and STEFANO GABBANA have reportedly ended their 20 year relationship.

The Italian pair are still close and will continue to run their hugely successful fashion house - but are both dating other men.

NEW YORK - Christina Aguilera (news) says she was shocked when a Valentine surprise turned into a marriage proposal. The 24-year-old pop diva says music executive Jordan Bratman, her boyfriend of two years, popped the question at Big Sur, Calif., last Friday after recreating a romantic dinner the two had while touring India in the fall.

"It was unbelievable," Aguilera told Us Weekly magazine. "Every cute thing he did, I totally thought was just a Valentine's Day (news - web sites) surprise — he got me!"

"He sent me on a scavenger hunt," she said. "My mom used to do scavenger hunts for me when I was a kid, so it had sentimental value. Each clue was a poem — and in the final clue he proposed!"

The 26-year-old Bratman gave Aguilera a 5-carat diamond ring designed by jeweler Stephen Webster, who also made wedding bands for Madonna (news - web sites) and Guy Richie.

"I'm finishing my album, so we haven't set a date yet," Aguilera said. "But it's definitely given me inspiration to make my best record ever."

I know someone posted the Crispin Glover Letterman appearance (if you can't watch, transcript here) a while back, and there was a huge discussion on whether he was really on acid or if he was just acting. And then I think someone posted the trailer to his really freaky film What Is It? and everyone had a debate about that. (was it cool? different? stupid? brilliant?)

Monty Python star has 22-year-old girlfriend

Grey- haired actor Terry Jones of "Monty Python" fame has found love with a 22-year-old Swedish student.

Jones, 62, creator of the groundbreaking TV comedy team in the 1960s, has been dating Anna Soderstrom - a relationship that has broken his famously "open marriage", the Daily Mail reported.

Alison Telfer, Jones's wife of 34 years and with whom he has had an open marriage, allowing each other the freedom to indulge in flings while maintaining their partnership, has decided to end their marriage after this dalliance.

Telfer is upset that Jones decided to have an affair with a girl a decade younger than their own daughter.

The girl's mother is said to be unfazed.
