Southern CA Fire Gets Closer to Several Celeb Homes

Update: Celebrity Homes in Danger

The fire in Malibu is raging away and the homes of several celebrities are in the fire’s path. Courtney Cox & David Arquette, Jennifer Aniston, The Mortons, and David Geffen are all in jeopardy of losing their houses if the fire is not contained.

The temperature is rising and the wind is still kicking up, making it even harder for the fire fighters to make any progress.

I heard that these fires are 0% contained at this point... does anyone have more information on the severity of the entire situation?

Oprah's episode is making me cry.
[info]konichiwacobra Re: OT22nd-Oct-2007 08:24 pm (UTC)
I turned the channel as soon as I saw what it was about.
[info]mattchew03 Re: OT22nd-Oct-2007 08:25 pm (UTC)
What is the subject?
[info]hipster_chic Re: OT22nd-Oct-2007 08:29 pm (UTC)
Talking to people who are about to die.
[info]jdxxi Re: OT22nd-Oct-2007 08:29 pm (UTC)
People with cancer. This man who's a professor is giving his last lecture/speech about living life to its fullest.
[info]_comeundone Re: OT22nd-Oct-2007 08:25 pm (UTC)
what does she have today? It doesn't come on until 5 here...
[info]realityvsdreams Re: OT22nd-Oct-2007 08:26 pm (UTC)

[info]fatima109 Re: OT22nd-Oct-2007 08:27 pm (UTC)

[info]sanrioboy Re: OT22nd-Oct-2007 08:30 pm (UTC)
How long did he say he had left to live?
[info]ilovehappyhour Re: OT22nd-Oct-2007 08:33 pm (UTC)
I'm watching it too. My bf's dad has cancer and has been given 6-7 years to live, so I can't wait for my bf to ge home so I can show him the episode.

I know it's a little cheesy, but I think Randy Pausch's lecture/Oprah's episode is going to change my life.
[info]hotpinkluver Re: OT22nd-Oct-2007 08:55 pm (UTC)
It was super sad. I cried like a baby. They were so inspirational though. Their views on life and living made me really reflect on my own life.
[info]tr3ndyy Re: OT22nd-Oct-2007 08:59 pm (UTC)
omg me too
[info]canonigos Re: OT22nd-Oct-2007 09:10 pm (UTC)

[info]7950 Re: OT22nd-Oct-2007 09:30 pm (UTC)
DOES ANYONE HAVE THIS EPISODE ONLINE YET?

i meant to watch it and i got caught up in something else!
[info]mantber Re: OT22nd-Oct-2007 09:31 pm (UTC)
omg are you serious about the topic?

my friend's dad died of cancer 3 days ago :(
[info]bedpost6 Re: OT22nd-Oct-2007 09:44 pm (UTC)
I know! I started crying and then had to pick up my napping son and just hold him...he woke up and was confused.
[info]schmanda Re: OT22nd-Oct-2007 09:56 pm (UTC)
Thanks for the heads-up. Randy Pausch is incredible beyond words. Same thing with Elizabeth Edwards (she has something in November's Ladies Home Journal). I don't know where they get the strength and grace.

Cancer needs to fuck off already. >:\
[info]demi32 Re: OT22nd-Oct-2007 10:26 pm (UTC)
i couldn't watch it ..too sad for me.
[info]johanna_bananaz Re: OT22nd-Oct-2007 10:44 pm (UTC)
i wanted to see it!!! but since i live in los angeles all the channels have been talking about the fires and so they are not showing it right now. gosh i hope they show it later
[info]shahoney I should watch. Help!22nd-Oct-2007 11:05 pm (UTC)
I've never had to deal with someone who has cancer in my family or friends.

But I've been assigned a story for the school newspaper about a teacher whose son suffers from brain tumor. I seriously am scared shit less. I don't know how to face people with illness. And I'm afraid I'm too cheery to be assigned for this article :(

Help! Tips on how to approach the story and sources professionaly but without detachement that I might seem cold.
[info]paradise_alley Re: OT24th-Oct-2007 05:04 am (UTC)
thanks for mentioning it. i only watched it cause you did so and it's reminded me to keep things in perspective :)
[info]lelu 22nd-Oct-2007 08:23 pm (UTC)
it's going to be a rough evening for these people.
i hope they've evacuated.
on the other hand, they have other houses, too. it's the mementos that are important.
[info]golden_goddess 22nd-Oct-2007 11:23 pm (UTC)
exactly. When they mentioned James Cameron yesterday my first thought was "OMG the Titanic Oscars!" (being that I'm a huge Titanic fan. I'm a bad person.
[info]jdxxi 22nd-Oct-2007 08:23 pm (UTC)
This must be the scariest thing ever. I'm terrified of fires.
[info]lolz 22nd-Oct-2007 08:55 pm (UTC)
We had 3 fires in my house within a month. The first 2 not so bad, the last one took the whole thing down.
[info]rabidgod 22nd-Oct-2007 08:23 pm (UTC)
this is really terrible!
[info]f3d0ra_girl 22nd-Oct-2007 08:23 pm (UTC)
that sucks, but they have the $$$ to rebuild and whatever if their horses were burnt down
[info]f3d0ra_girl 22nd-Oct-2007 08:24 pm (UTC)
wtf horses? houses**

[info]scarybuttshaka 22nd-Oct-2007 10:06 pm (UTC)
i think it is ridiculous that everyone cares about these malibu homes. there are about 8 fires going on here in san diego which is the worse ive seen. but of course we have to protect the rih. im just saying that its messed up that malibu is gettng the antion. and yes ive been evuated.
[info]nandy_pandy 22nd-Oct-2007 10:56 pm (UTC)
Exactly; they probably have multiple homes in other areas of the country, as well. What about regular folks who can't afford to just rebuild or buy a new home elsewhere?
[info]rumpunch13 22nd-Oct-2007 11:40 pm (UTC)
wlel hopefully everyone in that area has fire insurance! and idk even if people are rich and famous, it would still suck to have their belongings and personal shit all burned up.
[info]thevelvetsun 22nd-Oct-2007 11:51 pm (UTC)
It's not just rich people. 250,000 people in San Diego have been evacuated.
[info]konichiwacobra 22nd-Oct-2007 08:24 pm (UTC)
That's the last thing I've heard. It's just too big and there aren't enough firefighters.
[info]seashellz 22nd-Oct-2007 08:48 pm (UTC)
plus, theres so many different fires going on in socal. when the fires broke out in san diego and orange county, all their resources had already went to malibu.
[info]spankykilla 22nd-Oct-2007 09:59 pm (UTC)
The scariest part of this is that the first round of layoffs for the seasonal firefighters (at least for CDF) were supposed to be today. They weren't expecting something like this to break out at all, since the rest of this season has been pretty mellow, in comparison to last year anyway.

I don't mean to go all fire-nerd on you, I'm sorry. My boyfriend works for CDF, and he's on his way down south right now to fight these fires.

CDF and the Forest Service are way understaffed and it might be a while before this stuff is put out.
[info]konichiwacobra 23rd-Oct-2007 02:55 pm (UTC)
it's fine. It's a serious situation. I hope your boyfriend and everybody else fighting this are ok.
[info]secretivexhero 22nd-Oct-2007 09:59 pm (UTC)
del piero and his wife had a kid today <3
[info]rabbitncavylove 22nd-Oct-2007 10:05 pm (UTC)
there's too many fires in diff areas, not enough equipment and many are trying to get ppl to evacuate instead of fighting the fires.. ppl won't leave or waited too late
[info]groovylilkitten 22nd-Oct-2007 10:11 pm (UTC)
I saw a clip on the news where they said they are suspecting an arsonist possibly started one of the fires.
[info]elizafantastic 22nd-Oct-2007 08:24 pm (UTC)
ohhh noooo poor CELEBRITY homes are in danger? i'm going to go cry one thousand tears.
[info]littlestarletta 22nd-Oct-2007 08:26 pm (UTC)
This problem is EXTREMELY severe from Los Angeles to San Diego. They just evacuated A QUARTER OF A MILLION PEOPLE IN SAN DIEGO. More than Jennifer Aniston's beach house is in danger here.
[info]ireadyou_right 22nd-Oct-2007 08:28 pm (UTC)
EXACTLY. Stupid bitches. A lot of my family has been evacuated already.
[info]stiffyb 22nd-Oct-2007 08:30 pm (UTC)
I live in San Diego. My balcony is covered in soot. I can't go outside without immediately coughing up black gunk. I can see the smoke in the distance, and the sky is getting darker minute by minute.
I have two PQ evacuees in my house right now, but we live right by Solana Beach, and if they're leaving, we'll probably have to leave, too.

No lies-this is scary shit.
[info]watermeloncholy 22nd-Oct-2007 08:32 pm (UTC)
Seriously, people need to shut the fuck up about it. Celebrities aren't the only ones in danger here but since this is ONTD and celebrity news is what this place is focused on then it's being reported. Them being wealthy is not an excuse to laugh and hope that their homes get burnt down, geez.
[info]witnessthine 22nd-Oct-2007 08:39 pm (UTC)
well, her point is the news is focusing JUST on celebrities homes that are in danger, it makes it seem that noone else is.
[info]nowheregirlnd 22nd-Oct-2007 08:35 pm (UTC)
and if someone was to post about the actual news, which is that from san diego to los angeles, it's a serious situation.. someone would bitch that it wasn't celebrity related, since that's what this community's supposed to be about.
personally, i don't care either way.. but no one can win in either situation.
[info]dolcianiblows 22nd-Oct-2007 08:41 pm (UTC)
lol, your attempt at being ~ above it ~ failed
[info]thelookofarebel 22nd-Oct-2007 09:00 pm (UTC)
celebrities are not the ONLY people living in malibu. and just because the people there have money doesnt mean they should have to deal with fires that could destroy their HOME and BELONGINGS.

damn, you are so fucking heartless. "a fire that could kill people and ruin their homes? oh, boo hoo for them."
[info]tis_arse 22nd-Oct-2007 09:21 pm (UTC)
your last statement made me laugh, even though I evacuated my house too.
[info]wolfgang1969 22nd-Oct-2007 09:22 pm (UTC)
true, but celebs are like 1% of the people who are being affected by this, most of Southern California is being affected. Mostly regular ol' folks, not rich celebs.
[info]elizafantastic WHAT I MEANT BY THIS IS....22nd-Oct-2007 09:41 pm (UTC)
obviously this is a dangerous situation. i understnad that. my heart goes out to every single person affected by this fire. all i meant by this is that celebrities are clearly not the only ones in danger (although i hope they're ok too). i just thoguht this article was silly. that's allllll.
[info]steadyhearts 22nd-Oct-2007 10:15 pm (UTC)
i hope you don't bitch at me for this, because i totally understand what you meant. but celebrities are people too...just because they have money to rebuild doesn't make their photo albums and other priceless things safe. they're human beings, and they're also probably scared shitless. this is a celebrity gossip site. the actual news is what is and SHOULD be covering the fire in general and the people being affected.
[info]thevelvetsun 22nd-Oct-2007 11:52 pm (UTC)
It's not just celebs. 250,000 people in San Diego have been evacuated.

lol
[info]silentsneaking 23rd-Oct-2007 03:32 am (UTC)
im sorry but normal peoples homes are in danger and BURNING

the house i grew up in burned to the ground today.

[info]paradise_alley 24th-Oct-2007 04:59 am (UTC)
some people are such jerks on here sometimes. OH NO! how dare you say you don't feel sorry for rich and famous CELEBRITIES! (not ordinary people) cause nobody else here says way nastier things about them (e.g. DIAF!!) jeeeez.
[info]_ballerinagirl 22nd-Oct-2007 08:24 pm (UTC)
omg that is terrible
[info]yacrazybeatle 22nd-Oct-2007 08:24 pm (UTC)
that really sucks for them but you know everyone living on that strip is losing their shit too. but i guess i should go to CNN to read about them, lol
[info]chersolly 22nd-Oct-2007 08:24 pm (UTC)
Boo hoo hoo rich people losing their home.

Fuck you. Anyone losing their home and their memories is a tragedy, plus there are people who live there that aren't celebrities.
[info]steadyhearts 22nd-Oct-2007 10:16 pm (UTC)
thank you. god, this is a celebrity gossip site. get off if you don't wanna read about them.

[info]jokerandme 22nd-Oct-2007 08:29 pm (UTC)
Seriously. They're freaking evacuating people to the Qualcomm stadium and we have people coming here to one of our high schools, though now it's full an they can't take anymore people. They keep saying how this fire is worse than the Cedar Fires from 2003 and they fear it reaching as far as the ocen which is scary because to get there it has to jump several freeways. Arnold just did a press conference saying Bush has said he will offer any help necessary so I hope he's serious and we start getting some help in the air because so far I have heard NOTHING about any planes/helicopters dropping water or anything to help put out the flames. Sweet jesus that' a long post. haha sorry.
[info]carrie1982 22nd-Oct-2007 08:40 pm (UTC)
Yeah, it's not just Malibu. I have relatives in Orange County and I'm really hoping they don't lose their house again. Luckily though I don't think it's close to them, at least not yet. I'm waiting to hear from them to see how close it is.
[info]fallburningsky 22nd-Oct-2007 08:54 pm (UTC)

[info]keeponwaiting 22nd-Oct-2007 11:24 pm (UTC)
Yeah but it's ONTD, you can't exactly post about all of the other people on here :/
Not that I don't have sympathy for everyone who had to evacuate, just saying.
[info]boa_fanatic 22nd-Oct-2007 11:33 pm (UTC)
yup, both my parents have been evacuated now, and they were just standing around till the last minute.. that's the most stressful thing ever. My mom was more worried about her car she never drives than her own safety =\

It's getting closer here and I'm already packed, ready to bail.
[info]parissima 23rd-Oct-2007 08:59 am (UTC)
250, 000 people were evacuated? O_o

Shit, i feel so sorry for all the people living in these areas :/
[info]printclearly 22nd-Oct-2007 08:24 pm (UTC)
OT posts are annoying as fuck.

Anyway, I feel bad for anyone in that area. The most important thing is be safe, homes come second. I hope everyone will be okay.
[info]redhotpeppers 23rd-Oct-2007 12:52 am (UTC)
This isn't OT.
[info]printclearly 23rd-Oct-2007 01:38 am (UTC)
I was actually referring to the very first post that says something about how Oprah's making some chick bawl.
[info]just_enough 22nd-Oct-2007 08:24 pm (UTC)
this has got to be the scariest thing ever
i hope everyone there is ok
