I like most of those songs.
Walk the Line is probably my favorite out of them, but I have been obsessed with Johnny Cash since I was little.
[info]ex_marny730 7th-Apr-2005 03:53 pm (UTC)
Been obsessed with him since I was little too. My favorite song is St. Quentin. Didn't check if it was among the 500 top songs.
[info]katiiswayhotxx 7th-Apr-2005 04:01 pm (UTC)
my faveorite is one peice at a time.

[info]_minke_ 7th-Apr-2005 03:16 pm (UTC)
Woo hoo! Ring Of Fire is #87! I love that song! Heh. Good to see a lot of Dylan and Marley on there.
[info]ninja_sarah 7th-Apr-2005 03:20 pm (UTC)
eh... i give dylan being a great song writer, but the singing :( oh god the singing.....

[info]her8track 7th-Apr-2005 03:26 pm (UTC)
lololol

nice icon.
[info]_minke_ 7th-Apr-2005 03:27 pm (UTC)
I do agree somewhat. His singing is, well, unique? Ha ha. My dad always used to say, "It's WHAT he says, not HOW he says it." Heh.
[info]ninja_sarah 7th-Apr-2005 03:32 pm (UTC)
:)

the Dana Carvey SNL mockery will forever live in my head. best.ever.
[info]capuletta 7th-Apr-2005 05:10 pm (UTC)
I personally loooove how he sings. It's so different.
[info]scottage_cheese 7th-Apr-2005 11:43 pm (UTC)
Hate him.
[info]mossing 7th-Apr-2005 03:22 pm (UTC)
Didn't they do one of those last year? Its like every year there is a new top 500 of all time. What just because more songs came out they have to be added?
[info]vero182030 7th-Apr-2005 06:49 pm (UTC)
No, that's the one that came out last November. I don't know why it was posted today...
[info]outisthenewin 7th-Apr-2005 03:22 pm (UTC)
#256 Paranoid Android - Radiohead
#376 Fake Plastic Trees - Radiohead
#425 William, It Was Really Nothing - The Smiths

This list is wayyyyy too American. Psh. At least they didn't put "Creep" on there. I probably would have torn my hair out.

I find it funny though that they consistently rank Radiohead as the BAST BAND EVAR OMG!!1!11 and OK Computer as the BEST CD EVAR OMG!!1!! and there are only two Radiohead songs on thsi list, both in the bottom half. Poo on Rolling Stone.

PS: More Than a Feeling at #500?!?! BULLSHIT. Best song of all time, IMO.
[info]outisthenewin 7th-Apr-2005 03:23 pm (UTC)
PS: I'm really angry that Hey ya!! is considered a "better" song than any of the ones I already mentioned. Rolling Stone has officially become the most ignorant music publication out there.
[info]her8track 7th-Apr-2005 03:26 pm (UTC)
i completely agree about More then a Feeling

definately the best song ever.
[info]solargrrl 7th-Apr-2005 03:30 pm (UTC)
Not true, Spin is WAY more ignorant. Makes me mad just typing their name.
[info]crystalbeth 7th-Apr-2005 03:33 pm (UTC)
i used to love rolling stone... but it's been going downhill for the past four or five years. some of these selections are just awful.

for instance: i love the beatles. but the sheer volume of beatles songs is a little bit offputting. we all know they were great songwriters and all...and the selections of the actual beatles songs were iffy.

a lot of songs i expected to see, i didn't. only one madonna song? oh i have so many rants about this. but anyhow.
[info]vero182030 7th-Apr-2005 06:56 pm (UTC)
The fact is that this 500 greatest songs list was NOT by Rolling Stone, it was by 172 voters ranking their 50 favorite songs of all times. 2103 songs were nominated, and 500 most popular made the list. Voters include many artists of different backgrounds (a girl from the Donnas, Ozzy, Joni Mitchell, Jeff Tweedy from Wilco to name a few) as well as music producers, historians, managers, etc. All the details were in the magazine last November when it came out (I bought it.)
[info]yesternight 7th-Apr-2005 04:17 pm (UTC)
I'm glad Radiohead atleast made it on there, but they have songs that are way better than that. If they would have put Creep on there I would have FLIPPED.

and OK Computer is one of the best albums ever.
[info]uhohlisa 7th-Apr-2005 08:03 pm (UTC)
it's an american publication.
[info]s0_radical 7th-Apr-2005 03:27 pm (UTC)
i like the list =)
[info]incognegress 7th-Apr-2005 03:27 pm (UTC)
like alot of the songs on there but the others I have yet to hear
[info]loveamasochist 7th-Apr-2005 03:59 pm (UTC)
i love your icon
it should flash and say something like "someone needs to fatally shoot you" or something
we should all be glad that shitty cent isnt on the list... at least i dont think he is
god i hope he isnt
[info]lilshyangel 7th-Apr-2005 03:28 pm (UTC)
this list is really old. that issue came out last year
[info]ohclandestine 7th-Apr-2005 03:33 pm (UTC)
That is what I was thinking. This is old.
[info]spunkysparkler 7th-Apr-2005 04:15 pm (UTC)
very old.
[info]katiiswayhotxx 7th-Apr-2005 03:31 pm (UTC)

[info]hervoice 7th-Apr-2005 03:54 pm (UTC)
Actually, he isn't.
[info]hervoice 7th-Apr-2005 04:01 pm (UTC)
Oh, they are.

0_0''
[info]xkillthestars 7th-Apr-2005 05:08 pm (UTC)
of course. with the most overrated song of all time.
[info]actually_love 7th-Apr-2005 08:38 pm (UTC)
it's really not even funny how overrated kurt cobain/nirvana is. like, not at all.
[info]maradeath WTF, do all the asshats in the music world work for Rolling Stone?????7th-Apr-2005 03:32 pm (UTC)
306 - The Jam Thats Entertainment * this is refreshing because they are one of the greatest English bands ever!

Although, Sinead O'Connor is NOT, and shouldn't made this list. Do people over there even realize she DIDN'T WRITE THIS SONG. Prince baby, Prince.

And I love how they picked THE most worn out Smiths song of all time, How Soon is Now to list.....Rolling Stone never impresses me with their selections.
[info]katiiswayhotxx Re: WTF, do all the asshats in the music world work for Rolling Stone?????7th-Apr-2005 03:35 pm (UTC)
People have different musical tastes as you. All 500 selections aren't bound to be perfect in your eyes, it doesn't mean they are "asshats"(btw most annoying word ever, right after "teh").
[info]solargrrl Re: WTF, do all the asshats in the music world work for Rolling Stone?????7th-Apr-2005 03:42 pm (UTC)
I hate asshats.

;)
[info]maradeath Re: WTF, do all the asshats in the music world work for Rolling Stone?????7th-Apr-2005 03:53 pm (UTC)
*yawn*

Are you chasing after everyone that has complaints??? Or do you find me special for some reason?

Last time I checked people are entitled to their opinions, me voicing mine shouldn't be an issue with you, because after all, just like you said, people have different musical tastes!
[info]soymexicana Re: WTF, do all the asshats in the music world work for Rolling Stone?????7th-Apr-2005 04:47 pm (UTC)
"how soon is now" is the song that turned me and a lot of my friends on to the smiths. even though it really is worn out, i dont mind it being there.
[info]loveamasochist 7th-Apr-2005 03:34 pm (UTC)
too many beatles songs in the top 20
[info]katiiswayhotxx 7th-Apr-2005 03:37 pm (UTC)
lol!
[info]solargrrl 7th-Apr-2005 03:43 pm (UTC)
and Tool and Rage...never got the supposed to like them bands, I'm an outcast then ;)
[info]loveamasochist 7th-Apr-2005 03:54 pm (UTC)
LMAO
love it
[info]scottage_cheese 7th-Apr-2005 11:45 pm (UTC)
Hahaha.
[info]garethkeenan 7th-Apr-2005 03:34 pm (UTC)
I don't really like the list. The top 100 seem like the favorites of maybe a middle-aged white man.
[info]katiiswayhotxx 7th-Apr-2005 03:36 pm (UTC)
lol, i agree.
[info]eithnie 7th-Apr-2005 03:40 pm (UTC)
LOL OMGZ WHO R THOSE BANDS.
[info]_minke_ 7th-Apr-2005 03:34 pm (UTC)
Ok...Foreigner..."I Want To Know What Love Is"???? 476? Just...no. That I just don't agree with. That song is just not that great, IMO.
[info]modernreptile 7th-Apr-2005 03:37 pm (UTC)
Well, what do you expect, everyone. The list was made to sell magazines. It has no credibility whatsoever (IMO).
[info]pure_shores18 7th-Apr-2005 03:37 pm (UTC)
Bleh, I'd rather listen to Spice Girls than most of that stuff.

*sits and waits for flames*
[info]her8track 7th-Apr-2005 03:41 pm (UTC)
rofl.

spice up your life.
[info]prettygolucky 7th-Apr-2005 03:47 pm (UTC)
Hahaaha. I was like the biggest Spice Girls fan in '97. Ah, the old days...(okay, so that wasn't that long ago.)
[info]soymexicana 7th-Apr-2005 04:47 pm (UTC)
yeah no shit. i just read the first 20 or so songs and thought "god...those are the most overplayed annoying songs ever."
